Check the Abundance thread in the Personal Growth section.

I'll be taking a kettlebell class with Steve Cotter in May.

Kettlebells are AMAZING! Try Pavel's "Enter the Kettlebell" DVD from dragondoor.com. (I feel I should get paid for all advertising I give that guy!) It's true though, really good workout, high intensity, short duration. 15 minutes with a kettlebell and you're DONE.

futureboy, you say 15 minutes and your done but I have heard that b4, does it really work that well? are you sore the next day? have you seen muscle improvement etc just from 15 minutes?

Revvell

are you sore the next day?

You'll always be sore not doing what you've not done. Once you're use to using those muscles, the soreness will be from growth. It's GREAT!

have you seen muscle improvement etc just from 15 minutes?

I have. If you want more, do two 15 minute sessions. One in the a.m.; another later in the day.

This is why I vary my routine and use so many other implements PLUS, my own body. Ropes, fitness balls, Indian Clubs, etc. More fun; less boredom.

Two things to note: one is that yes, after swinging a kettlebell I will feel sore the next day when I haven't swung it in a while. However, Pavel's book recommends a fundamentally different idea: you're not supposed to feel sore the next day after lifting weights. Good weight training should involve high intensity but short duration, i.e. 4-5 reps of your 80% 1RM followed, rest for a few minutes, followed by 4-5 reps of 75% 1RM again. No lift to failure. You should feel energized after lifting, not dead.

...great fun! Obscure Russian strength training object being brought back into fashion (sortof) through the DIY "underground strength/anti gym" movement, you know the guys (and girls) who roll heavy tires around and work out with sledgehammers and ropes and indian clubs and all that stuff:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTniJ9F63Pc

Just swinging them around combines strength training, flexibility, and cardio all into one.

I think I can safely say I have the largest kettlebell collection on the island of Maui... I have five of them!

Oooh, Oooh I do kettlebells and Pavel's Femme Fatal workout and it is an awesome workout. I also belong to Equinox fitness club in Southern California and they are going to implement a kettlebell program. Very exciting. They already have kettlebells to workout with but they are going to start offering classes.
I cant wait!!!
There are tons of studies out there done on kettlebells and cardio conditioning and weight loss etc. you just have to look. you can even check out some workouts on youtube.

In peace and raw

hahahaha... just comes naturally when you're outside trying to juggle your kettlebells at the park, creating big divets in the grass. then you gotta run around and try to cover them all up! then you gotta dodge behind trees carrying your kettlebell hiding from the park ranger! pretty soon you're all sweaty and laughing and feeling like a kid again. maybe you attempt a cartwheel! or you might find yourself skipping home!

pretty soon you're playing the primal way!

Here's one for you ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uIm8qHu56w.

Eilene, if you are going to be a swinger, please take a look at the enclosed link:

http://www.geocities.com/fightraining/swingsimulator.htm

The beauty of this contraption is that you can adjust the weight yourself! The plate weights are not that expensive.

Happy swinging!

I would get the 5, 10 and 15 pounders. You'll find them to be a lot different than lifting weights. Much more fun and varied workouts. I got mine at Iron Woody Fitness.

I'm having my teacher check out the stack if he's not already done so. That seems interesting.

Here's what my teacher had to say about the kettelbell stacks:

"Awkward, ungainly, time consuming, not well balanced. I started with a kettlestack. Once I got my first real kettlebell I gave my kettlestack away. When he got his first kettlebell he got rid of the kettlestack."

If you think he doesn't know what he's talking about, check this:

Hey Eilene!

I wouldn't rely on the opinion of just one person to consider a KettleStack adjustable kettlerbell useless. You need to look at the bigger picture. Depending on where you live, you may not be able to do all those exercises this guy does. For instance, it is difficult enough if you are a city dweller with limited living space and no available backyard to do your workouts.

Also, not everyone had the financial means to buy a collection of quality kettlebells as you have most likely noticed that a solid cast iron kettlebell is a pricey investment. It is way too much money for me or anyone to fork over for something that we have never used before. Please note that KettleStack adjustable kettlebells come with a money back guarantee if not satisfied.

If you have time, please check out all the reviews about this inexpensive piece of equipment in cyberspace. The company has made a number of improvements over the years. For instance, the Kettlestack handles are now well built and well designed.

It won't hurt to check out the website once again:

One guy who checks everything out before sharing with his students.

Gotta do what's best for you though. Most people don't ever go beyond one or two kettlebells and they do last forever.

Just hate to see someone spend ANY money on something that is "Awkward, ungainly, time consuming, not well balanced....", no matter how "inexpensive".

I've been with this "one guy" for 22 years. He has the ways and means to check out anything he wants before recommending them to his students and clients which is why I trust his opinion.

Before moving to where I am now, I used my bells in my apartment or drove out to a park. Took my medicine balls, my bell, my ropes, my bags and turned the park into a gym. Fun, fun, fun. :)

If the stack works for you, fine. I prefer balanced, gainly, less time-consuming and comfortable.

Very funny -- You are relying the opinion of only one person about kettlestacks and then have the gall to suggest that no one gets them. I could very easily turn the table around and say that your Healthy Juicer is nothing, but a piece of garbage. Yet, you have no qualms to sell it at your online store. Please note that there are plenty of bad reviews about your particular manual juicer in cyberspace! Jeez! I would be very leery to listen to you when you have no issues about selling inferior products yourself.

This is not personal.... don't make it so. If you have an issue with something you purchased from me ~ a juicer recommended by Brian Clement, btw, and which he uses personally, then, I'd suggest you email me about it and not turn this into something other than a discussion on kettlebells. I use the juicer myself and have no problems with it otherwise I'd not sell it.

I got my 3 kettlebells (10, 14, & 18 lb) in the mail on Friday. I did a 15 min practice on Friday using the 10 lb & I am already in love!!! I did the swings and cleans...Saturday...I'm very sore. Did another 15 min practice anyway. I did the swing 10 & 14 lb), clean (10 lb), squat (10 lb) & snatch (10 lb) & then 3 sets of mens push ups with rebounding before & after as a warm up & cool down. This was a harder workout than I have done in a long time. Talk about cardio!!! WOW! I LOVE it!!! Today...Sunday...I am sore all over & I can hardly walk. I have bad knees, so I haven't done any weight work for legs in years. I thought KB's would not make my legs sore...I was WRONG! Fabulous workout! I can't wait to see what it does to my body. I will train again today in a little while.

OK now...anyone still doing the kettlebells? I am sooo loving these workouts. They kick my butt! I have done 5 workouts so far. The last 2 were a DVD called Iron Core 1. It is 40 min. long & I am dripping with sweat by the time it's done. I haven't sweat this much in ages. The kettlebells are a very intense workout. My favorite is the snatch and I also love the deck squat. I can't wait to see the changes in my body!!

Mostly doing the Indian Clubs and Primal Body Movements but taking a class with Steve Cotter on the 24th. Going to be a full 8 hours. I'm expecting a bit of soreness.

How you doing? Still working out?

Eilene
05-12-2008, 06:34 PM
I still LOVE the Kettlebells! I have been working out with them about 2 times a week! I also am practicing Yoga about 2-3 times a week. I have been using the 14lb & 18lb kettlebells and have been doing the 18lb snatch. I really love how powerful they make me feel and I have been working out with weights for 28 years and I never felt that way from the weights. There is just something about them. I'd love to do the Primal Nature workout with you Revvall. Can I come over tomorrow? You are soooo lucky to be taking a class with Steve!!!! Have fun!
