To those of you who are athletic, when do you think it's best to exericse, on an empty stomach or sometime after meals.
It seems like it wouldn't be a good idea to exercise with a full stomach, but does the stomach have to be completely empty? What do you think?

IMO a small meal of fresh made raw fruit juice on an empty stomach with at least 20 minutes to digest would be OK before exercise.

I t depends on the time of day....If first thing in the a.m. I always have my water and juice, sometimes fruit.....generally the rule of thumb is 200-400 cal.'s 2 hours prior....Being raw however I find fruit up to 30 minutes prior is fine.....other than fruit I wouldn't exercise w/food in my tummy, but I'm a runner most of the time and the fruit sits the easiest.....check out our fitness thread in case you want to join...;)

I work out as soon as I get up in the morning, so I exercise on an empty stomach and then eat afterwards. Not sure if that's the "right" way of doing it, but it works for me!

You basically just have to experiment and find which you prefer.
Before raw, I excersized a lot less, because I could neither excersize on an empty stomach because I would get dizzy, nor within 3 hours of eating because food just sat in my stomach and didn't digest.
After raw, food digests a lot quicker, and I can basically eat whatever I want, to the point that I am satisfied (not stuffed) and be ready to excersize 30 min. to an hour later.
I still get dizzy excersizing when I first wake up, on an empty stomach.
If your stomach gets upset easily when excersizing, foods to avoid before excersizing would be really acidic fruits (like oranges or tomatoes or vinegar) and nuts. Avos and coconut are fine for me before excersizing.
Coconut water and/or dates are a great pick me up when excersizing for a long time to replenish electrolytes.

I think it depends on the person and what exercise they're doing. Play around, find a way that works for you. I've been told that it's better to exercise first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, but if I try to do this I struggle to complete my training.

If weight loss is a consideration, Bill Phillips (the BFL author) recommends exercising first thing in the morning with no food in the gut. Says it's easier to burn the fat stores that way.

I think that one has to wait 45 min after eating before exercise.
