The 5000 has a variable speed dial and the 4500 has 2 or 3 settings I think. I think the motor is exactly the same. I think the 5000 has a longer warantee as well. I have the 5000 and I love the variable speed feature so I'm glad I got that model. I don't know anything about the 5200 because I don't think its available in the UK yet.

If you don't mind having a used one, check out E-bay. I just bought one, probably from the 1970's, for $75. I just got it and it seems to be in perfect condition. Doesn't have all of the bells and whistles that the new line does, but what a savings!!

I love my vitamix and it has two switches: the on and off switch and the second switch is high and low for the speed. Mine does everything I need it to make. I don't think you need all the bells and whistles, although my doesn't have all the bells and whistles it was still very expensive. Now if I had all the bells and whistles I might be thinking I couldn't do with out them. Good Luck!
