I know this is used in a lot of raw recipes so I picked some up at WildOats a few weeks ago. I haven't used it for anything but today I decided to put it on my popcorn (heard people like this). It smells pretty cheesy but it doesn't really taste like anything! Maybe this is how it all is...but I expected more.
So, did I get a bad batch or is this just how nut. yeast is?

Different brands taste different. I buy Red Star and also a store brand. Both taste different.

I just got mine out of the bulk bin, I didn't know there were different types.

It smells stronger than it tastes...I have to add quite a lot to recipes to notice it. I like it though!

I find that it tastes better when mixed or blended into recipes than when it is sprinkled on top of foods.
Sprinkled on top of foods, it is pretty bland.

Oh by the way, an awesome recipe using nutritional yeast that I made the other day is Russell James' spinach and mushroom quiche. The recipe is on the first page of his blog. It's really yummy!

I'm glad to know that it's pretty bland....I've always thought I should try it but now I think I'll stick with what I'm doing and by pass it. Can't miss something I haven't had. By the way, I've heard different things about it being truely raw.

You have to put alot on the popcorn to get that cheesy taste. I put several tablespoons on mine.

The filling is great even undehydrated...maybe stuffed in a pepper or something. It didn't last long in my dehydrator

I bought in bulk from my health store - it is crunchy and has toasted taste - it was definetely in the oven before it came to the store. I actually like the taste and crunchiness. I guess it is good for the vit b. I wonder if there are any other benefits. I made nice sunflower pate - it added to the taste.
