My sugar is most always normal now that I am Raw even eating all the fruit I want. Sometimes, I can't seem to keep it high enough now though. It goes down a lot very fast. I don't know how to deal with this. I have checked my blood sugar so often that my fingers are sore. The Diabetes websites and books do not have information for raw vegans. When it goes low(every day) I eat some fruit, but I would rather maintain it at a stable healthy level. I am totally not complaining, I don't have to take medicine anymore and I am losing weight, but I want to stabilize my sugar so that I don't have to check it a lot anymore. Any suggestions or resources.

It sounds like you have a problem with swinging levels of insulin. May be the fruit sugars are absorbed too fast, then the insulin will spike and cause low blood sugars. How are you eating your fruits? Do you get your greens? Sorry, I am new to this forum, so don't know all of you yet! It could help you to eat the fruits combined with greens to slow down absorption rate of the sugars. Fats will also slow absorption rate, but I really do not think that is a good combination, it will encourage high blood sugars if you overdo on fats. I am doing the same, fruits on their own are not good for my system, but combined with greens it is a different story, it feels so much better.
About resources, Victoria Boutenko is into green smoothies as most people probably know. Greens are very balancing. There is also Frederic Patenaude with the www.GreenForLifeProgram.com. He inspired me to up my intake of fruits, which I could never have done without the greens.

I usually have 2 green smoothies a day, very large ones like 32 oz. One is for breakfast. I put about 3 handfuls of greens with my fruit and hemp powder. I will try always having greens with the other fruit thoughout the day and see how my body responds to that.
Thank you so much for the response. I know in my heart that raw is the key to diabetes; I just have to turn the key right. ;)

Isn't the problem with diabetes that blood sugar is too HIGH, not too low? That's why you take insulin: to bring the blood sugar down. Too low blood sugar is a symptom of hypoglycemia, not diabetes.

I look at diabetes and hypoglycemia as two sides of the same coin both controlled by insulin.

I basically went from one extreme to the other. From all high readings and taking medicine and feel crappy....to all readings under 100, no medicine, and feeling great. But as a diabetic, when I get readings in the 50s, it is dangerous for me. lol For now it seems I am damned if I do and damned if I don't. I would rather be low and fix it by eating some fruit than high and slowly killing myself. My goal is balance however and that is what hasn't happened just yet.
Thanks for the input! :)

boxerfamily,
I am type 2 diabetic (no meds) and hypoglycemic. I have been hypoglycemic since a young child and diabetic for 9 years. When I combine fruit with greens my blood sugar stays stable for a long time. When I combine fruit with fats, i.e. my favorite meal is sliced bananas with almond butter and honey drizzled on top, my blood sugar stays stable also. If I eat fruit alone, I try to eat a banana also. Maybe the fat and starch in the bananas help my blood sugar stay stable longer (?). The only time I have a problem is when I eat a sweet fruit alone and wait too long to eat...which sometimes could be as short of a time as 30 minutes.
I also check my blood sugar a lot, not so much that my fingers are sore though, you poor thing. Good luck with finding the right key!

Ditto on all the info about slowing the sugar down with fat, greens, even protein, easy enough to do. Some combinations may not be the best for quick exit and/or detox, but it seems that balancing the sugar/insulin levels are more important.

Thank you Thank you Thank you
I am testing my blood and taking notes. I will try combining my fruits more and see what happens. I knew someone would have suggestions.

Reactive hypoglycemia is thought to be a pre-cursor to diabetes. So many of us with type 2, have problems not only with high blood sugar but lows as well. One thing that works for some people is to have some protein and fat along with the carbs.
