Hi guys,
Tomorrow will be my 4th day of a juice feast. I'm doing it because of what seemed to be a cold coming on. I'm getting worse and worse here - my chiro/naturopath dr said today that it is a bacterial infection in my sinuses (which has happened before, and I always ended up taking antibiotics for it although I'm not really much of a conventional medicine kind of gal). So I was pretty determined now that I've gone raw not to go on the antibiotics for things anymore. I really don't want to feel that it is my only option. I want to believe that my body can heal itself. I was really feeling positive about it working until today, just getting worse and worse, and I came home from work and got in bed and found myself wondering if I would need antibiotics, and really not wanting to go there, so I went into the kitchen and cut up about half a bulb of garlic and blended it up and drank it. I mean, I can't even do the neti pot because the water just won't go through. I've been trying to do all the right things, like I always had - and this time I'm raw so I was really thinking I could avoid this.
I think I wrote this on here somewhere already, but the reason I get so stressed about colds is that 2 years ago at this time of year I was hit with bout after bout of colds which turned into an undiagnosed sinus infection (I had no clue what one was) and also bronchitis and then pneumonia, which took about 7 weeks to properly diagnose, at which point I had cracked 8 ribs and had pleurisy as well. Seriously, I almost died. it was really bad.
Since then I've had trouble with just about all my colds turning into sinus infections, and then gurgles in my lungs and I take the antibiotics.
So I did get through one cold already while raw, then fought off a second with juice feasting, and now this one is progressing somewhere I'm not very happy about. I don't even really know what posting this will do, I just know there are some of you out there who have gotten through a lot worse than what I'm dealing with. I forgot to say that after no relief with the garlic I took sudafed. :( :( I want to be able to sleep.

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) ~ natural antibiotic ~ no side effects. I would put 2-3 drops in everything I drink; snort it up my nose as much as I can and gargle.

Warning: It is HIGHLY concentrated. Do NOT use undiluted. Ask me how I know? :(

Thank you Revvell, I will send out for some straight away. I've packed a bottle of that stuff for travel to India and the like. Thank you for the reminder, and I will try getting it up my nose, diluted. I do recall it is quite strong. Sorry you found out the hard way - yikes!

I just found an unopened bottle of Xlear in my cabinet. It is a xylitol-saline nasal wash, and it has GSE in it! I'm going to use that until I can get plain ole GSE later today.

I have used a colloidal silver nasal spray for my sinus problems in the past, as well as a warm saline solution.

I find this on the Earth Clinic site just this morning in searching for the health benefits of cayenne pepper.

I see no reason why you couldn't do it raw

ENERGY, COLDS AND SINUS
11/29/2007: Rani from Brookville, Ohio writes: "I will have to try the ACV, (apple cidar vinegar) but I have found cayenne to be fantastic for many things. Energy definitely. And also good for colds and sinus. For really bad colds and sinus, I like to mix, garlic, cayenne, lemon juice, a little honey and a little orange juice with some boiling water and it does miracles!!"

also

4/27/2007: Ewan from Houston, Texas writes: "I tried cayenne pepper remedy and I would have to say I'm very satisfied with the result that I got. It cleared of my sinus and open my passageways and helped with my ear infection. Try see if works."

Best to you.

I was going to suggest you could just snort the cayenne as I've done yet, many think I'm crazy when I mention it. If you choose to accept this mission know you WILL dance! :D

Hee hee! I just might do that!
I have been known to pour cayenne pepper into wounds to stop the bleeding... this can't hurt any worse, can it??

I would also gargle with raw apple cider vinegar a naturally occurring antibiotic and antiseptic. You can also take 2 oz of ACV with 2 tbs of raw honey and 6 oz of water. It's good for you and tastes good. Hope you feel better soon.

Nope! Only hurts for a short while.

Wow! You do that? I've done it myself and suggested it to others. It's another time when eyes roll.

You know about cayenne for strokes and heart attacks?

Actually IN the wound doesn't hurt much. The skin around it will though. Do NOT put it on an abrasion! Talk about pain!

Probiotics. Chug a bottle of dairy-free liquid probiotics over a 24 hour period and you'll be fine.
