most raw foodists advocate not eating the usual raw peanuts we can find in any store, a better choice is raw jungle peanuts-personally, i like these better taste wise and they're much healthier.
here's some info i found to explain why you should avoid regular raw american peanuts:
Aflatoxins are toxic substances made by molds. These aflatoxins are very toxic to the liver even in very small amounts. Unfortunately, Aflatoxins on American peanuts are a very real problem. Aflatoxins are a health danger to people who eat nuts, especially peanuts. However, because these ancient, nuts are a wild, heirloom nut, planted far away from civilization, these Jungle Peanuts are essentially aflatoxin free. Laboratory testing of these wild jungle peanuts has shown both the B1 and total level of aflatoxins to be less than 0.2 parts per billion every time they are tested.

on this note....ive been wondering if anyone has looked into whether jungle peanuts could be grown in the us; in our backyards or gardens or whatever, and if so, if they would continue to be aflatoxin free.... paying 16 bucks a pound for jungle peanuts is just something my budget doesnt allow.. anyone?
