View Full Version : Ice Cream?

I have seen some great ice cream recipes on this site that call for a ice cream making machine. I know in Alissa's book she says you can eat whatever you want as long as its raw. But is this too much? I only have a few raw books and none of them contain ice cream recipes (except of course the banana) I fear if I start making this raw ice cream I will over eat this or that it will hinder my weight loss. Health is the most important issue but I have about 50 pounds to release and I really want it to happen as quickly as possible (on raw food...I mean I want to lose it fast if its healthy!) Thanks!

Hi FreeLily! I love ice cream too! I make mine in my vitamix, using frozen bananas, frozen sweetened cashew milk cubes, vanilla and any other frozen fruit (if any) I want to put in. I thought about one the other day - a vanilla ice cream base with raw choc chip cookie dough in it:D I don't make ice creams all the time, tho - there's so much else out there to make! (raw brownies for one;)
Make sure you have lots of variety in your diet, and the ice creams won't be too much. Also - make the fruit puddings - they are amazing! Just Banana and Papaya, or do what I did a couple of weeks back, which was bananas and frozen blackberries (only if you have a high powered blender to crush the seeds)!
I have lost over 60 pounds in just over 6 months, and am still melting! These days I am limiting my nuts, seeds, and oils, and focusing more on avocados and olives, which is what Alissa recommends for weight loss. To do so with ice creams, lean more towards sorbets on occasion - frozen fruit blended with raw honey or agave...YUM!!! Or Italian ice! Lemons processed with water and honey or agave then frozen and later processed until smooth and icy:D

Freelily, I have found that I have not had a problem with "overeating" raw food and having it prevent me from losing weight. I'm pretty sure that I probably go overboard on nuts or something sometimes - but it hasn't stopped me from losing. Also, sometimes even when I don't see the number on the scale change I can tell that my body is changing because my clothes keep getting looser. I would say to eat what you want as long as it is raw and see what happens. That's what I have been reading - this is not about deprivation - it's about getting healthy. The weight will come off the way it is supposed to come off for you.;)

I eat raw ice cream all the time. It's a staple in my kitchen. However, I only use frozen bananas and other fruit. It never affects my weight, but it does help me stay raw easier.:D
