Soooo.... maybe I was drinking too much carrot juice? Honestly, I haven't had more than 3 or 4 carrots a day on the high days, but I have been eating a LOT of clementines for over a month. I totally cut back on carrots this week but it doesn't seem to be helping. What do I do? cut them out entirely? Eat no orange food?
I'm a pretty pale person to begin with, German-Irish type, so I suppose things might show up faster in me like this. Hopefully I won't turn green with too many green drinks.
:P

Suggestions???

Oh my goodness!! I have no idea what you can do about that but you sure scared me straight, I have been eating tons of clementines as well.

Extra beta carotene from orange food gets stored in your skin.
It's completely healthy and nothing to worry about.
Green, purple or other colored foods won't cause this, only orange foods.
Getting a sun tan (if you can) will help cover it up.

its probably from the beta carotene in the carrots; i've had my palms turn orange from drinking too much carrot juice, it just kind of went away on its own eventually. its not dangerous but i would guess that sweating and exercising would help it go away a little faster since vitamin a is fat soluable?

Shame, it'd probably be quite funny

Hi GypsiAnsara! I don't have any advice, just a funny story.....my aunt ate so many carrots when she was pregnant, that my cousin was born orange! Of coarse, she's no longer orange, so at least you know it goes away! Oh, and she's 15, so she hasn't been orange in awhile...:D

I had a friend years and years ago that had all boys and only one of them has orange hair (that type of red/head color) and it's the pregnancy that she really got into drinking carrot juice everyday. She's always had fun with that.

i am prone to a little orangeness in my skin tone, too :) in fact, ever since i was a kid, i have been to known to get a little orange every once in a while. makes sense, considering i have always loved to eat lots of raw carrots and mangos (which both contain beta carotene).
i've never really minded it. i figure if my body continues to crave those foods, i must need them.
if it bothers you, then i guess just cut back on your consumption of beta carotene containing foods....
if only all those people who do the fake tan thing knew about this!

Yes, my palms are orange now and have been eating very little carrot but tons of Satsuma tangerines.

I have been eating about a case of clementines a week. I am glad to see I am not the only one.

Haha! some funny stories. Thanks for sharing :)

I'm figuring I'll go easy on the carrots, and continue to enjoy my clementines because they aren't in season very long. I totally crave them, so I figure they've got something in there I need right now. Plus, I just can't pass up the deal at my HFS - 10# bag for $10, local & organic!!

It is my mom who noticed my new shade, and ironically when I was a teenager, she was taking some MLM antioxident pill from a friend and it had so much beta carotene that she turned REALLY orange. We made fun of her then, so I guess this is karmic payback, as she was laughing at me a bit.

Nobody else has said anything, if they even notice to begin with. We have weird lighting in my office so hopefully that covers it up!

 Just going to keep reminding myself of all the benefits!

I have been juicing since '94 and when I first started there was a group of us that all were doing it at the same time and out of the 6 of us 2 people turned "orange". So I sought out an answer because it made logical sense to me that if it was the beta carotene we would have all turned orange? We were all drinking 16 oz. or more a day of carrot juice. But this is where I landed ... the following is a quote from http://www.detoxifynow.com/juicing.html.

Carrot juice: fresh raw carrot juice is one of the best liver detoxifiers when consumed in quantities of 2-3 pints daily. Such dosage sometimes results in an orange tinge in the skin; contrary to popular belief, this is not caused by carotene, any more than beets turn you red or spinach green; the orange tinge is due to toxic bile being purged from the liver by the mega-dosage of carrot juice; the bloodstream cannot excrete the bile fast enough through the kidneys, so it is purged through the skin; when liver is clean, you won't turn orange, regardless of how much carrot juice you drink.

We've been eating and juicing oranges since before Christmas, around 2 half case boxes a week. They are soooo good right now. No orange tint as of yet.

aah that liver detoxing through the skin makes sense.

When I first started eating raw I ate a lot of spinach which is heavy in betacarotene (more than carrots!)
And after a week of eating a lot of spinach and beet leaves I turned orange! So it makes sense that I was detoxing through my skin as I hadn't been raw long.
Now I eat about 20 clementines and up to 8 oranges a day and I'm never orange (start of my 3rd year raw).

When I peel oranges though, my hands go white - like they have a white powder over them.

That isv ery interesting! I was just thinking, that that wouldn't explain the baby born orange, surely the baby's liver does not require a detox, unless the mother's liver is detoxing into the baby??
