Just saw a commercial again that intrigues me, anyone know the pro's & cons of these bags? They seem to really work,& like they'd really be a benefit to the raw lifestyle, I'm not sure of what they're made of...{they're kinda vague in their ad...}
www.buygreenbags.ca (sorry, don't know how to post the link so you can click on it...)
I'd love to know whatcha all think!:confused:
{Of course before I would buy these, I'm going to scrape up the $ to order Alissa's book & DVD!}

Anyone else having problems with using color? I miss my purple posts, when I click on color, it just goes to black as color, automatically!:(

I use the Evertfresh brand. They work very well. They do help keep produce fresh longer.

But what makes them work? Could there be any drawbacks to what the bags are made of touching the produce? The site help little info, just wanna know more before I invest...I do like that they can be re-sed up tp 10 times!

I really want to know the answer to this too. Everytime I pick up these bags to buy them I feel my body saying 'NO'! Why is the company so vague about what they are made of? are chemicals involved? is leaching onto the foods a problem? Im really curious

I don't know what the bags are made of, but I believe what makes them work is they allow natural gasses from produce to escape, while protecting it.
I use them and have been happy with them so far.

I bought them and can't see that they are all that great. The commercial says they will keep bananas for 9 days. Well, we bought bananas, both slightly green and very green, 2 days ago. Put them in the bag and now the slightly green ones are very yellow with brown flecks on them. Not at all like they show in the commercial.
I have not noticed a huge difference in stuff I put in the refrigerator either. The produce might last an extra day or two, but it's hard to say. Certainly not like the commerical at all. The carrot one is a joke. First of all, none of the bags are big enough to put whole carrots with tops in. Not even the XL ones, unless you bend the tops way down inside the bag. And the carrots go limp fairly quickly. No way will they keep for 18 days like they say.

Wow, k, thanks, this is what I wanted to know....are they the same brand? Do you think that would make a difference?
They were saying something about what it's made from, not just that they allow gasses to escape, which is why I was wondering WHAT they're made of...
...well, I won't waste my money now, just eat my produce faster & buy more often!
Thanks for the response!

I saw them and am so curious as to how they work... I found this on a number of sites, just thru google.. "Evert Fresh bags are made from low density polyethylene that is coated with a fine layer of natural clay containing high levels of a mineral proven to absorb ethylene gas." Which then doing further research learned that polyethylene is a thermoplastiv made from petroleum. So I don't think I'll be buying them anytime soon.

It's so unfortunate too, they seemed great, but definitely too good to be true!

Hmmm... If the clay absorbs the ethylene gas from the veggies and fruit, then I am going to try keeping my produce in clay flower pots with lids instead of the brown paper bags I have been using. It will probably work even better than the paper bags to insulate the veggies too. Lightbulb!!!
I'm off to the garden center!!!!

It's amazing how our bodies intuitively know if something's good or bad for us, huh?:)

Yes, I will let you know how it works. Right now I'm trying to figure out what size I need to work in the fridge. Large ones could lay on there side and hold bigger veggies, but lids wouldn't stay on. And smaller ones would fit upright with lids on but only hold smaller size produce.
I suppose the large ones would absorb some percent of the gases even without a lid, so I'm going to try 2 large(no lid),1 medium size(with lid) and 4 small six inchers(with lid).
Now I'm thinking how get the big ones would look on my counter with produce in them, all the while secretly absorbing gases.
This may be really great!

I didn't read all the responses and I really don't have a working understanding of how these bags work....but for my greens these bags rawk!!
I ordered 10 of the large bags and they keep everything nice and fresh. I can definitely notice a huge difference.

mountaintop, I wonder if the clay pots you buy in nurseries are suitable for food storage. The clay might have some kind of metals or chemicals that could leach into the food. Just a thought. I'm not sure. You might want to be careful.

Good point about watching for additives to the clay. I doubt it would be anymore than plastic containers & probably much less.
I'm buying a mix of clay pots, regular red clay from garden center for larger pots and a few handthrown ones(made right here in the Great Smoky Mountains) for the smaller ones. I'll let you know the results after 2 weeks.
