I was wondering which type of oats you buy that can be sprouted. Are they oat groats/hulless? Thanks!

I know it's definitely the hulled ones, but I'm not sure about groats. Aren't groats the cut up ones? To get the right ones, they need to still be in whole kernel shape not cut up.

Groats are whole. Steel cut are the cut up groats. I've never tried sprouting them. The machine that hulls them supposedly damages the grain so it isn't able to sprout. But they may be developing hull-ess oats in which case they would [presumably] be sproutable.

I have sprouted oats before, so I know it can be done, just like any grain. If you go to www.sunorganicfarm.com, they have a list of different kinds of oats, with great descriptions of which are sproutable and which aren't. ;)
