Hi,
My sister has been raw for 8 months now and got this really bad head and chest cold for 10 days straight. She never really got over it during the following weeks. Then all of the sudden I caught it this past Friday and am slowly on the mend. I've been raw for 7.5 months.
My sister got sick all over again last night and has been in bed all day. Her chest is all filled up and she is coughing etc. and is miserable. She's been putting Vicks vapour rub on her chest and also a pot of hot water with Vicks in it to help her breathe in her room. Drinking lemon/honey and ginger drinks, having echinacea. She wants to go to the clinic tomorrow she is so panicked and sick of being sick.
Mine started with a bad canker sore and then went into a sore throat. So what do you all do to heal yourself when sick? I hear a lot of raw people say they never get sick and I'm guessing that is when they have been raw awhile. This is the first time I've been this sick since going raw.
Thoughts? Suggestions? When do you not get sick anymore? Why do you get sick?

PATH301,
Thanks, No, I've never tried it but read about it awhile back. Is it on here somewhere? I'll do a search. Hey I'm up for whatever works and try my best to avoid any medication. I broke down the other day and had one of those decongestants to ease my head pain and it killed me to take one as I knew it wasn't natural.

Dr. Christopher has several natural products that help with colds. One is a lung and bronchial formula. There are several others....our family has loved his products. They have alot of integrity with the quality of herbs they use, which I really appreciate.

I drink glass after glass of lemon water with as much cayenne pepper in it as I can handle. (Natural Decongestant)
I also boil water, put it in a bowl, add an all natural oil called Tei-Fu to it and put my head over...inhaling deeply! (After the strength of it has worn off and it doesn't overwhelm me...I drape a towel over my head and sit there refreshing the hot water for more steam.) It gives you a steam facial as well as opens up your air ways! :p
Of course...citrus fruits for the vitamin C.
I second the rest...and WATER!
I hope you are feeling better soon. I hate getting sick. :( Raw (((HUGS)))

I eat lighter, exercise lighter, and get in plenty of uplifting reading in bed. I try to keep in mind that I am experiencing this fully to help the next person through it...and the compassion carries me through. Just my experiences.

My two cents .... Oil pulling and ummm... get your colon cleaned out, however YOU do this (enema, colon irrigation, I would probably even resort to a Salt Water Flush if I couldn't do either of the other two). A lot of times when I am sick I don't eat as much as I should and stuff doesn't move through as it normally does so all the toxins your body is trying to get rid of are just sitting there. You can also take a clove of garlic like a pill and it will help with congestion.

I don't get sick. When my body is detoxing I help it along by eating less, moving more (w/out movement, lymph doesn't flow and stuff hangs around longer); drink more warm fluids; move more; drink more warm fluids; move more...

Really? cool.
I don't get ever get too sick, because when I feel a sniffle or sore throat or other symptoms coming on, I make GS with lemon, garlic, ginger and cayenne.
I also do the neti pot everyday and have a 6 day a week yoga practice, and I know this builds my immune system.
If you do yoga or are familiar with some basic inversions... be sure to do sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and Halasana (plow) daily, it massages the lymphatic glands.

Gargle with lukewarm water and salt several times a day for the mouth and throat - it's awesome. Also helps relieve post nasal drip which can keep a sore throat going longer. LOTS of fluids for the chest! REST.

Thank you everyone for the great replies. There are lots of excellent remedies here and I appreciate your feedback. :)
I'll give some of them a whirl.
Where do I find Dr. Christopher products? Are they online?

I'm another one who dosn't get sick when raw. Went 4-5 years or so withought so much as a sniffle and then after going back to SAD foods I finally got mildly ill recently! Back to raw now lol. Just wanted to mention camu camu berries or the powder. They have the most vitamin C of any plant I believe, something like 8%! Lemons for example are 0.05%.

I've had that chest cold and the best thing for congestion and lungs is raw honey! I put it in everything when I'm sick mostly in my water but sometimes I just eat it on a spoon! good health to you!

I am sick too.....I picked up the stomach bug at Disney World. It is impossible to get raw foods at Disney so I ate cooked vegan for 4 days and so I think that had a lot to do with my immune system being low, however I know people who have had the stomach bug for 24 hours straight and mine was pretty much gone after 4 hours so I am grateful for that. I mostly drank liquids all day and had watermelon when I felt better.
My daughter has had the same upper respiratory infection that you described going on 2 weeks now. She has been eating a lot of oranges and I think the vitamin C is helping to build up her immune system. So far I have not had to take her to the doctors. In the past she would have been on antibiotics within a few days so raw is helping her too.
I hope you and your sister feel better. Is your mom doing okay?
