This past summer I had this yummy dessert in a Santa Fe raw vegan cafe called Body Cafe. I am pretty sure it was raw chocolate mousse or something with maybe a firmer consistency. I know I remember reading it was made out of coconuts and maple syrup. But I have no idea how to go about re-creating it. I would like to avoid using avocados as using them as a chocolate dessert isn't my thing. Any help would be very appreciated!

Why don't you want to use avocados? Joel's chocolate mousse pie is divine, and contains coconut and agave - but it also contains avocado.

i love avocados.... but the first time i made a chocolate dessert with them... i didn't really like it. i threw in a banana to cut the taste a little and it worked great, taste and texture wise. maybe a little experimentation and you can find what tastes good to you.

I just so happens I sent this to a friend today. Everyone I made this for has raved- although there are avocados in it you can't taste it. (At least I can't)
1/4 c pitted dates soaked
1/4 c agave
1/2 tsp vanilla optional
3/4 c avocados (1-1/2 avocados)
1/4 c plus 2 tablespoons raw cocoa
1/4 c water
Process dates, agave and vanilla until smooth. Add avocado and cocoa and process until creamy. Scrape sides of processor as needed. Add water and process briefly.
I have doubled the recipe as this portion barely lasts. Warning: addictive!:D

I eat avocados everyday. I live in a sub-tropical area next to Mexico so it is a staple here. It just makes me feel queasy eating them when they have turned brown from exposure to air. Even though the cacao disguises it. Weird I know...
