The SLim-cado, the low- fat avocado. I saw these next to the regular avos. I can only guess they are some kind of genetically altered food... altered to remove all the healthy fats and lutein. gah!!!!!
I have no desire to buy one or try one, but just curious if anyone had first hand experience with these.. or why they even exist.

Hello,
I don't think they've been altered. I think it's just the marketing scheme for the Florida avocado which is naturally lower in fat than it's California counterpart.

Why, I've never HEARD of the "slim-cado." How funny. What a great username that would make! :p

I've eaten this many times. It is simply a Florida avocado. It is the only avocado available in the Bahamas, where I spent the past week at my family's home... and they do not slap those silly stickers on them promoting them as low fat and such. Try it, I loved it! A bit less of a buttery taste/texture then CA avocado's though.

thanks! I was totally wrong with my assumption... I'm so glad I asked. I suppose it was the crazy advertising/ stickers that made me second guess it's natural qualities.
I will buy one next time and try it out.

Something that will help you to know what you're buying by those little labels is this - four digits are standard farming. Five digits that begin with a "9" are organic, and five digits beginning with an "8" are GMos, etc.

I think theyre gross...too watery and bland XP
Mattye Lee... That's definitely some helpful info! I know about the 9 and the 4, but I didn't realize if it started with 8, it's GMO...
As for the "Slimcados", I actually really like them. What's great about them is that when I'm eating lighter (more fruit and greens, less nuts), CA avocados aren't as appealing sometimes. That's when the FL avocados perfectly hit the spot.
The avocados I had in Brazil were even bigger and pretty similar. Melt in your mouth like butternut squash. A nice, big ripe avocado from FL or Brazil (or I guess the Caribbean too!)... ah. Like a chunk of heaven.
