I understand on the green smoothie diet the gallbladder is not getting any fat to break down,so the bile builds up and it causes gallstones.What can I do to prevent this painful problem and prevent my gallbladder from eventually being removed? Thanks

The green smoothie diet??? Green smoothies (and all other colors) are supported here but a gs diet? Please, explain this to me.

I thought gallstones were from too much meat?

Am I missing something???

I didn't think a low in fat diet would cause a health problem unless your BMI got dangerously low (for females at least).


Fat sources on a raw foods diet are nuts and avocado...you could add avocado to your smoothie. After all...it's green.:D

I'm not sure what you are asking because we eat and drink more than green smoothies here. That's just a part of what we consume. And we do eat fats in our walnuts, almonds and other nuts....along with avocadoes...so. Hummmmm. Perhaps you could explain what you are considering with the gs diet and we will respond. ;)

Diets that cause gallstones are ones that promote high protein consumption like the Atkins diet. I had my gallbladdar removed for this reason. As far as I know eating a healthy raw diet will not cause you to get gallstones and neither will green smooties.

Why do we get all tied up in a knot about eating too many greens and yet we don't think twice as we down a cheeseburger, fries along with a shake. I remember Alissa talking about this in her book. I don't know anyone who only drinks green smoothies and usually they only look green but have many other colors in them from berries, oranges, banans etc. Sorry, but I'd be more worried about the health problems from the burger, shakes and fries than one to many green smoothies.

I grew up on mostly fried meat and potatoes 5 nights a week. Lots of recycled bacon grease and yummy homemade white bread, good old cornbread and beans w/hamhocks, breaded and fried zuccini slices, eggs basted by flipping bacon grease on them, oh and did I say bacon, and ham. Hardly any fresh or raw food, the only greens was canned spinache. It was pretty sad, being constipated from day 1, too. I just waited my turn to have gallbladder surgery, I was the last of four, in my 20's.

Gall stones are caused by the bile mixing with the cholesterol and forming stones. Just stick to the good fats. If you get small stones, they can be removed by drinking 2 tablespoons of olive oil and laying on your right side for a half an hour and they will be passed. Don't do this with big stones though. If you stick to a good diet, i.e. the raw one preferably, you will not have to have your gall bladder removed.:)
