I haven't been in a fitness center in 15 years, but my hubby got a free membership (through his job) to a new fitness center near us, so we went yesterday. Wow, there's so much in there, I don't know where to begin. I started out on the treadmill (that thing does it all - incline, heartrate, etc. etc.) & tried a few of the other machines. A person could spend all day in there. Then we tried out the steam room (that was fantastic), then swam a lap in the lap pool. I'm interested to know from those of you who go a fitness center - what machines you use and what areas you work on. Also, if you use the sauna, steam room, pool, etc. This is kinda new to me. I'm used to just walking (almost everyday), a little bicycle riding in the warmer weather, & kayaking in the summer, but that's it. So, thanks for any advice, comments, etc.
I love the elliptical machine and the rowing machine, they feel good and there's very little joint impact. I use the free weights some too.
Ah, and I LOVE the sauna. I stretch there before and after I work out. It really helps me loosen up my muscles.
I keep meaning to hop in the hot tub too, but I never bring my swimsuit (and, uh, I don't think they want me in there in my undies and sportsbra?!)...

Hey that's a good idea, I'll try that next time.

Garden Granny , how fantastic ..
now BOTH of you should receive an orientation with that FREE membership .If not , then just ask . A qualified fitness trainer will give you about an hour to walk you through all the machines and see what your fitness goals might be , and put you on your own personal program .
A few days ago I had my orientation at our local YMCA , and I plan to at least work out 3x a week to increase strength... I often go with my son just for the open swims , like yesterday and again today .
