I only have mesquite and put it in smoothies. Nevber tried lucuma, and won't anytime soon, it's out of stock at the store I order from.

I use lucuma all the time! It has a "malty" taste to me. I put it in my cacao (chocolate) smoothies and they taste better than the Dairy Queen chocolate malts I used to love!
Cacao Smoothie/Shake:
Water from one coconut
2 packs stevia
2 T. agave nectar
1 T. cacao powder
1 T. carob powder
1/2 tsp. maca powder
1 tsp. lucuma powder
3 frozen bananas
Throw it in the blender in and whip it up. YUM!!!

p.s. I order my maca powder and lucuma powder from rawguru.com. Alex the Raw Guru offers free shipping on orders of $100.00 or more and for the next 2 days offers free shipping on orders of $20.08 or more. Take care!

Thanks everyone. Thanks for the recipe walnutty, I'll try it if I get the lucuma...which I think I'm going to, I was planning on just sticking it in smoothies and stuff. We don't always have many fresh fruits except bananas so I thought it might add a bit of variety.
Thanks for the link as well but I'm in the UK so I'm getting it from detoxyourworld.com, the only place I could find it!

Hi there, I use both in raw desserts or when making raw chocolates. I get all my super foods from Shazzie's site, Detox your world (sorry i cant do the link thingy Im pretty computer illiterate LOL), the service is great & i have found all her products to be really good quality. She did a 7 year blog about going raw...have you seen it? if not it is definitely worth reading.

Yeah I read it when I was first going raw. It was really inspiring and is a big part of what got me into it! I'm ordering some stuff from Shazzie when the money I put in my account clears. I think I'm getting cacao powder, nibs, hemp protein powder, maca and lucuma. I was going to get cacao butter but I think I'll stick with coconut...does it make a big difference in desserts?

Subbacultcha,
You do not have to use the stevia or the agave nectar, but can choose the sweetener of your choice. I am diabetic so mix stevia and agave when I can. Also, the maca gives things a "peanut butter" taste, in my opinion, which is why I use less of it than the lucuma. I prefer the malted taste to the the peanut butter. Hope you like it. It's so good my son's teenage friends ask for the "chocolate malt" and they are definetely SAD kids!

cacao butter is fab for making chocolates, also deserts-- really rich cheesecakes, strawberry white chocolate cheesecake-- it sets more solid and you can leave the item out on the side to serve for longer, with coconut oil its not quite as stable
Lumaca is lovely, shortbread like flavour-- lush for any deserts..I like to use mine for strawberry shortbread
the Mesquite-- I use this more in shakes, it is an appetite suppresant, keeps you feeling long and has a nice caramel flavour-- its great for meal replacement, after work out shakes etc.
Another detoxyourworld fan here :D

I am pretty satisfied with the coconut oil. Coconut oil gives desserts a more fudgy texture while cacao butter gives them a hard texture, like a chocolate bar. I think you would do well without the cacao butter. It's nice, but not necessary if you have coconut oil.
Coconut oil is really good for your thyroid, too.

Thanks everyone. I think I will get just the lucuma now and get cacao butter and mesquite when I have a bit more cash. I'm saving for my Glastonbury ticket at the moment so money is tight

Also Raw dancer - what else is in your strawberry shortbread? It sounds lush!

If you want to save some cash use date or raisin soak water as a sweetener instead of agave. Ive even used the soak water from dried apricots before & got great results. xxxxxxxxx

Hi Subbacultcha
I was at Shazzie's retreat earlier this year and she said that they tend to use lucuma as a base for cakes as it has such a lovely light caramel flavour, however it doesn't have as many superfood qualities as other products
I've got mesquite, maca and lucuma - I like the taste of lucuma, but maca and mesquite taste and smell really strong to me and I'm not so keen on them.
btw there is a raw food meet up in Reading on 19th Jan! I can't go sadly, have you heard about it already or would you like the details?

Great tip! Thanks! I never thought of using the soak water. Do you just keep it in bottles in the fridge or what?
