:) Hi Everyone,
I am new to raw and have been doing it for about one month. I really like it but I did go off of it this weekend but I'm went right back on yesterday. My biggest problem is I need to gain weight! I am 5'3" and weigh about 95 pounds. Everyone I meet is constantly telling me how terribly thin I am and it is really starting to depress me. What can I eat that would help put some weight on. I read Allissa's book and saw that it took one lady a year before she put weight on. :( Any suggestions ?

I have a similar body type. Experiment with your diet. I found that by adding a LOT of sprouts and greens I'm able to keep my weight on [one quart jar packed full + a small flat of sunflower greens per day]. I'm sure it helps that I have raw oatmeal for breakfast. I haven't been eating a lot of nuts lately, but I use pumpkin seeds and make pumpkin seed butter and use unhulled sesame seeds quite a bit also. When I eat primarily fruit I become spacey [my add kicks in] and I lose weight. If I wanted to gain weight I would eat more sprouted grain breads [my favorite is kamut] and eat with pumpkin seed butter and honey [pumpkin seed butter: grind seeds to a flour and blend in food processor with coconut oil].
Your mileage may vary.

Hi Christa,
Thanks for the information I will certainly try it. I am also new to message boards so I don't know if I am replying right. I do not know what you mean by a pm? I am not very good with computers but I'll keep on trying.:)
Thanks, Nancy

Hi Pixie Green,
first, who says you are too thin? And why is it any of their business?
Personally, I don't associate with ANYBODY, who tries to tell me what I "should" or "shouldnt"
1. weigh
2. eat
3. do
4. exercise
5. live
6. etc.
NOW, If YOU think you are too thin and need to gain weight, there are several ways to do it, first go on a diet and deprive yourself, it has been proven over and over again, that the body will go into a defense mechanism and you will keep what weight you have, and lower your metabolism, and you will gain as soon as you start eating again, this is why diets don't work
OR, you could start eating closer to bedtime, and more fats and oils, such as avocados, olive oil, nuts, coconuts, grains, etc.
What ever you choose to do, please realize that your body is PERFECT exactly as YOU and God/dess made it, you don't have to live up to someone else's standards of body image.
Blessings,

rp, I think you meant to address your post to the op ndfay. And I agree with you that our natural weight may or may not conform to society's perception of how we [the universal we] should look.
Speaking for myself, I've always considered food a tedious necessity. Sheesh, you prepare a meal then clean up, and four hours later you start over, and then a third time? Every day?! Ha! So I have lost weight because I couldn't be bothered. Another factor is that losing or gaining five pounds makes quite a difference on a small frame, and my friends have expressed concern when I loss 5 from disinterest in food or lack of cash.
I have found joy through food since I've gone raw by keeping it simple and rediscovering the glorious flavors of produce. Since making the simple changes in my diet as I posted above I've found a wonderful balance for myself. By balance I mean signs of healing. My problems included add, gallstones, anxiety, painful pms, and lethargy. By adapting my raw diet to reduce these symptoms as much as possible I have regained the ability to think, energy, and optimism in life. Weight shmeight. It's about finding/ knowing what your optimal state of health is and working toward it. The scale is just one way of many to measure whether I'm moving in the right direction.

Hey sorry to "threadjack" but , you had gallstones too? Do you think that lack of food could cause them ,as much as being overweight could? Since I was VERY thin when I had them, and didnt eat a lot ,have you experienced weight gain since it removed?
btw ,here is a raw weight gain website http://howigainedweight.com , she apparently was allergic to preservatives ,so her body wasnt absorbing te food she ate.......

Have you considered weight training? Are you doing too much aerobic type of exercise? That could be what is causing you to weigh less.

Hi Sharon,
Thanks for the reply, I do weight train and light aerobics. I think I just need to eat more nuts, avocado, sprouts, etc. I think I just need a little encouragement too!
Thanks. Nancy

VVixen, I think it was the "quality" of food I was eating, plus several diet cokes plus several shots of espresso per day. This may sound crazy but I'm almost certain it was the diet coke and fast food and everything else just didn't help. I quit all soda, caffeine, sugar, cooked food, and meat the day I went raw[and did the gallbladder cleanse]. At that point I couldn't eat more than once a day even if I wanted to because even small amounts of food took 24 hours to digest.
I was not losing weight but gaining it before I did the cleanse. I don't think it was true weight, I was puffy and backed up. I lost a few pounds the first few weeks of raw and since adding greens and stuff have maintained my weight to where it's been for the last 12 years. I think I was lucky and caught it before my health was severely compromised.

yes ,you were VERY lucky. I had gallstones undiagnosed for 7-8 mos and felt TERRIBLE , I would have attacks 3-5 times a week ,rush into the the E.R. all the time and never have awnsers (although I got ALOT of "its in your head ,or its menstrual cramps") But the pain was WAY to intense (ive ripped my liver in half from a fall and KNOW pain) it was until 7 + mos. later that they FINALLY found out and then they recomended removal surgery ,I was going to flush ,but the doctor said that h didnt know about it and thought it was dangerous........so my mom told me to just et the surgery -REALLY wish I hadnt.......lol ,sorry for the threadjacking AGAIN!!!!
