I posted a while back about my dad going raw. Well this is day #3 for him! I am so proud of him. He's experiencing a few symptoms of detox but he's been feeling alright for the most part.

As for my mom, she's going about this totally wrong. As much as I tell her to eat whatever and whenever, she's eating far too little. Now she's complaining of serious pain in her hips, and nausea, and hunger. So she is now cooking vegetables but still vegan.

I would have thought that my dad would be the one to go through all this detox since he is very overweight.

So my mom asked me if it is ok to take painkillers. I told her NO, but I feel kind of bad for her now. Any ideas? I feel bad telling her to suffer through it, but people do not understand how bad painkillers are for you.

Maybe you could print out some info for her from the web. Something short but to the point. I wish I could recommend some site for you but maybe someone else might have a "TRUTH" type site that they have found about medicines. I will take a look.

what kind of medication or pain pills are we talking about? and -- what is she taking them for?

when going raw - I've read several testimonys where people continued on their medication for a time while transitioning to raw.

Your dad is doing so great! Do your parents have any books (like Alissas) that they could read to help them understand the process that they are going thru? Or some different recipes for your mom to try out?

Pretty cool your parents are eating raw b/c of you... that rawks! ;)

I gave them a copy of Alissa's book but the problem is that my dad works alld ay long in our basement, so he comes up to snack on fruits and whatever he can, but he doesn't have the time to make any of the recipes.

My mom on the other hand, does have the time. But for some reason she's not making any of the recipes. I live right next door so I've been bringing over tons of stuff. Today I made them angel hair pasta with an alfredo sauce and cilantro. I made a dinner of tacos and guacamole and sour cream (all raw).. and in a few days I'm going to make a nice dessert of some sort when I get back from flying.

I'm sure my mom will be fine. She's suffering now, but she needs to detox to feel better. I guess even a vegan diet is better than her old SAD diet.
