Can it go bad without being opened?

Oh yeah! I had one explode once! Just listen for water, if it has it then it should be okay, or at least thats what I think from my limited experience.

we had a young coconut (organic) that we did not refrigerate for 2+ weeks and the water was still all there, but it turned brown inside and tasted horrible! with the young cocnuts, even though there is water doesn't mean it won't go bad. Of course, young coconuts are different than regular brown ones. next box we are getting we will refrigerate so this doesn't happen again. but yes, coconuts do dry out and go bad.

Yup...DH told me we didn't need to put 'em in the fridge...he was wrong, lol! :D

Well, I didn't think I needed to either ...... BUT, I decided that since I was home from some viral thing i would juice all day and start with a smoothie. I poked the hole in the nut and got out the water (which was clear) and put it in the smoothie! After I got that down I proceeded to take apart the nut ....... got kinda curious as there were some suspicious areas ..... I used better judgement and tossed it :( but now I'm waiting to see if the water is going to affect me.:confused: I put plenty of other goodies in my smoothie so I hope it cancels out any ill effects I may feel.
