Hi!

I am very excited that I found this site. I am a young college student and lifelong Alaskan, and now that classes are done for the summer I've had an urge to do research on SOMEthing...and...the subject of my attention has become raw foods. I have been basically cooked vegetarian plus freshly caught halibut and salmon (still not sure how to give that up!!) for a couple of years, ever since I met my husband, who had been vegetarian for a while. Lately, however, we have both fallen back into more unhealthy eating habits, such as meat, fried foods, anything with cheese...and I've been just feeling very blah...lazy, sleeping as long as possible, forgetting to excersize. So, when I read about raw foods, it really made sense to me and struck a chord. I bought a juiceman juicer, and have ordered recipe books and informative books.

I have been eating approximately 80% raw for a week or so (Today 100%!!) And although my husband is afraid I've gone off the deep end, he is still supportive, though not interested in joining me on this quest.

Anyway, before I write a book about myself, I'd better stop and just say I'm really glad to have found this community and I look forward to sharing ideas, information, and support with you all.

Take care,

O.A.

P.S. Does O.A. stand for anything else, funny or strange or is it slang for something...(Just trying avoid embarrassment... )

Hiya O.A. :)

Well, the only thing that I know those initials stand for are "Overeaters Anonymous" I like the sound of "Organic Alaskan" better, don't you?

Off topic - Hey, I used to live in AK. (I'm a Canadian though) I lived in Homer for 3 years and Willow for one. Haven't been back for 15 years but haven't given up the dream...

Welcome to the world of raw. I'm feel that I'm just dabbeling in raw myself but I am eating a LOT more raw than say, a year ago so it's all good. Perhaps this time next year will be even better!

You'll love it here, it's a great place to learn from like-minded people.

Take care,
Walkin'

Wow! You lived in Homer?? That's where I was born and raised!! Lots of wonderful people there. Sitka is great too...very similar community. Yeah, I'm not sure if I'll be able to do 100% raw yet, especially when I'm at a social event...but I really think it makes sense.

Thanks for the reply!
