Hello!

Well I went to the meetup at Dalene's and loved it. It was held on a Sunday, a day they are not open for reg business.

The restaurant is small in an intimate way not a cramped way.:) Unfortunatly at the time they were still awaiting a storefront sign so if you go call to ask what two shops they are between so you can find it.

They have a glass fronted cooler with loads of tempting delicasies for you to help yourself. The fridge was packed!! I must admit I did not think to ask but I am unsure if this is how the food is procured or if there is table service during "business hours".

They also have a shelving unit with non fridge items like KookieKarma's crawkers their own crackers, organic local soaps etc.

I went a bit mad and spent a bomb! A bit of the latent habits of yeaster year came out and I picked up (most taken home):

-Hemp Seed pizza: Believe it or not I never got to try this as it was eaten right out from under my nose

-Enchilada w/guac, salso verde & sweet cheeze dip: AMAZING flavour, great texture, loved the 3 generous sides. I would have liked to see a few veggies inside to lighten it up a bit but this would not stop me from getting it again.

-Mango cheesecake: Beautiful in every way! More "cream pie" texture than firm "cheezecake" texture; it was fab!

-Apple Crumble: Lucious and flavourful, just needed a dollop of vanilla ice cream, lol

- Raw Joy" Just like the real thing, so glad there were only three I ate them all in one sitting!

-Lime aid: Ahhh, a beautiful moment. . .

-Chocolate Crunch: This was the only item that was not my fav but I put this down to it being my taste NOT the fault of the recipe!:o

Please have alook at their site for details descriptions of each menu item!http://dalenes.com/menus.aspx

Sorry to say i did not include pics of all as I ate some before I could document!

On the whole I was very impressed & pleased to have another raw eatery choice. The food was fresh and they used quality ingredients.

If I hade to put the restauant into a catagory I would say casual "Bistro". Not gourmet like Julianos or Pure Food & Wine but a few steps up from the more "earthy" Chaco Canyon". Please visit this gem when you are in the area!

Sorry some of the photos came out a bit blurry. Hey there is our own RFT member KayBee standing in line too! Hi Kaybee :)

hey eppp--

cool. theres a picture of me on this site now :) i dont have a digital cam so i never have uploaded any photos of me.

heres my two cents about dalenes:

-GRANOLA: i got the granola to take home. it was REALLY good. ive made it with buckwheat before and didnt like it, but this tasted like sunflower seeds and almonds, no grains. im not sure though because they didnt have the ingredients posted yet. tasted like they coated it in something citrus-y and maybe apple-y too. actually a bit too sweet for me for breakfast "cereal" but a GREAT sweet snacky snak. i bet it would be really good, almost dessert-like, with almond milk

-CHEESECAKE: i got the mango cheesecake too. REALLY YUMMY.

-BURRITO: Really good, tasted like a "real" burrito; but yeah, i agree, maybe could have used some more veggies inside. I wasnt particularly keen on the "sour cream" that came with it, but that was just my taste preference, not the product; im not real keen on anything with vinegar in it, and i think it had cider vinegar to make it "sour-y"

-PIZZA: didnt have it this time but had a slice at a new years party a couple of the chefs went to. pizza is WICKED GOOD. hempseed powder crust, basil, tomatoes, onions, peppers, olives, tomato sauce, cheeze sauce. and i dont even usually like tomato sauce. this is probly what id get next time i went

-nice, casual, atmosphere, a little bit more "elegant" than a cafe, yeah, "bistro" feel is probably a good word. real silverware and water glasses (although was that just for us that day or is that the norm?)

I have been eating here for lunch as much as I can afford it=) so far its been around 4 times. I LOVE the tortillas, I gotta make those at home. Caramels and chocolate candies are to die for=) We got a cheesecake for CHristmas dinner- really expensive but very tasty.

I do love the pizza crust as well, totally want to replicate it at home.

Mia and her crew are very lovely as well=)

Hey Spicyfull, are there any raw eateries in your area? I went to grade school in Altadena and when I come back home - Pasadena - I end up going to Santa Monica. I would love something closer!

Hello Washington Rawbies=) Today my boss and I had a tasting feast at Dalene's- her first time in a raw restaurant, as well (she has had lots of my stuff, so she knew a bit of what to expect). Here is what we tried today-

Cacoa Milkshake - YUM!!!!!!!!! Baby Nora did not want to share=) Made with Hazelnut milk- so good!

The Tandori balls with Spinach dipping sauce- yummy, she liked as well.

Burrito- I love this one, she liked too, but I like it more=)

Pepper Cheese- ooo, I love this- I think I found something to wean me off my regular cheese habit. and spicy! I love it on crackers.

Fudge balls- decadent!

Ocean Pate- She loved the best, I like it ok- replicas of fishy stuff is not my thing.

Onion crackers- we all know those are the best!

flax crackers- not crispy, but good flavor.

We had a good time trying everything- its pricey but it is a treat- also I know the money is going to a good cause, and the ingredients and care put into products I know are truly raw is wellworth it.

I love Dalenes! psst put in a juice bar=))))))))))))))

OK,
My dh and I went here yesterday to check it out. Their menu is not bad, very expensive though.

I wasn't all that impressed with the food. Everthing is made earlier in the day and kept in a cooler. Too bad some of it wasn't freshly made and warmed up in the dehydrator for a bit. We both had the enchiladas/burrito. I like the wrap, that was good, and the "bean" on the inside I swear were real cooked beans. But nope, it was a sunflower seed "bean" spread. Then there was some spicy nut mixture in it which was very spicy and delicious. Served with salsa, nut sour cream ( didn't like that, too grainy ) and guacamole ( hated that! It reminded me of the fake guacamole at the store all creamy and smooth. Didn't even look like it was made with avocado! ).

I also had a lime cheesecake. Now that was good! Could have more lime in it.
DH had the apple crumble. That was really good!!!! I would have that again.

We took some tandoori balls home to try for later and some of the Raw caramels.

Wasn't impressed with either of those. Again, very nutty.

Our bill??? Here's what we had:

2 Enchilada/burritos @ $11.95 ea
2 limeades @ $2.00 ea
1 cheesecake @ $5.95
1 apple crumble @ $ 5.95
Tandoori balls (4) @ $9.95
Raw Caramels (4) @ 4.75

Total with tax: $ 59.35

Yeah.... I won't be eating there very often. I think I could have made everything cheaper myself and more flavorful. But it's nice to know they are there if I'm in a pinch.
