View Full Version : McDonald's Sausage Burrito Replacement?

These sausage burritos are my biggest problem. I eat them EVERY morning! What can I make that will help me overcome the egg, cheese and sausage cravings that are just killing me. The sausage probably isn't as much of a problem for me as the eggs and cheese will be. It's the only meat that I've eaten for the past three months. But today I'm 100% raw and I'm just dying thinking I'll have a day 2 without them.

I appreciate any suggestions that you all may have that will help me with this.

I live right next door to McDeath's, & TOTALLY understand your struggle!

The turning point for me has been deciding to go raw for a year (starting today, but actually began moving harder in this direction last week, & decided a few weeks ago) & have decided that I can eat anything I want...NEXY YEAR!

Is McD's going out of buisness between now & then? Not likely!

Do I NEED it to survive??? No!!!

Is the desire for their food stronger than my desire for my health's RAWstoration?

Not anymore!

Can I live without it, & are my cravings stronger than my will to succeed (before it's too late!)
Yes, I can surely live without it! & cravings fade when your cells are nourished with fresh real food...

Did you ever read about what's in Mcdonald's food?!?!? It's shocking!

Ewwww, Gillian is talking RIGHT NOW about sausage on "You Are What You Eat", & you do NOT want to hear what she said about it!!! (Not that M'cdeath uses much real food!) & the graphics are enough to give you nightmares!!! Did you know by law sausage only has to be 40% regular cut of meat???

Snouts & feet, anyone?

I'm convinced many fast food places put chemicals in the food that make you addicted to it. I don't know if knowing that would help you break the addiction or not.

They really do! Two they put in chips & tons of other stuff are potasium sorbate & sodium benzoate! & they don't have to label it, either! Makes me sick...& mad!

Just think of it as the lowest possible grade ingredients(bottom of the barrel slaughter house droppings). Eating the scrapings off the bottom of your shoe would be healthier .Think how you are being manipulated by the addiction of their chemically concocted scents to suck you in as they sell cancer causing unhealthy substandard crap.Sorry, I feel for your struggle but come to the other side and in no time you'll never ever want to go back. Watch the DVD "Eating".
AND
Drink GS they will clean your pallet.

Itisone,

Try the taco's with spicy taco meat recipe somewhere on this site. It is divine.

Also try making a raw pizza with dehydrated mushrooms, sundried tomatoes soaked, with a cheese sauce and spinach.

Alissa's burrito is a good one too. I can't think of what it's called right now but you could fill that up too with veggies, etc.

Another good site for recipes is http://www.thesunnyrawkitchen.blogspot.com

I find that the more "healthy" fats I eat, the less I'm drawn to fast food. I put coconut oil and cashews in my morning smoothies, have an avocado every day, salad with hemp oil, pesto, mock salmon pate, fun stuff like that.

Psychologically, nothing made a difference. I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person, and I know how bad fast-cooked-sad food is for my body. But intelligence didn't stand a chance against that primal urge to devour nasty food, due to some "faulty wiring." Eating healthy fats will help you correct the damage and drive right by McD's without even flinching :D

Driving by some feed lots with thousands of stinking cattle penned in together cured me of wanting meat for a while.

Maybe you could wean yourself off, by first switching to a burrito you made yourself with good quality ingredients, then start making one with a minimally-processed vegan sausage, nut or seed cheese (or soy cheese or whatever, but I think nut and seed cheeses are nicer, not to mention healthier) and maybe scrambled tofu to replace the egg, in a wholewheat tortilla...then gradually switch to a raw sausage, nut/seed cheese in a raw wrap...don't know what could replace the egg though!

I agree--try making a subtle transition by making a non-fast food variety. And repeat the mantra--that mc-burrito is yucky.

I know on you are what you eat--gillian gets folks to try stuff and stick with it by telling themselves they like it and eating positively. Eventually they come around. So if it is that easy to convince your brain you like something, maybe the same can be said in reverse. Just keep telling yourself it is gross and disgusting.

Oddly--many years ago, after watching the movie..Pretty in Pink, I decided I wasn't eating eggs any more. Just one line by Molly Ringwald "I don't eat eggs, daddy"...I said it over and over and over again--and wouldn't you know it..the next time I tried an egg, it was so yucky gross.

To this day, I can't eat eggs--I have done the egg white and didn't have a problem with that..but could never ever eat that yolk.

And this was all just from making a decision to not like something....not that I didn't actually like it.

So maybe try that. :)

Wonder if they have any raw "quiche" recipes out there that could help you with a "raw egg"/

Speaking of--here is a raw quiche recipe...they though heat something.

Maybe you could work with that to get the egg.

My guess is that it's some form of MSG that makes it so addicting. Listen to Storm Telifero's free podcast on itunes. Search under Nutman and it's the one about food addiction. It's CRAAAZY stuff, I tells ya! LOL!

Re: the Pretty in Pink Egg thing-I did the same psych-out with sweets/fats/dairy in highschool. Every time I wanted something sweet or greasy I conjured up a mental image of all the crap in my blood and deposited all over my body. I made some really gross mental pictures and I didn't touch the stuff for almost TWO YEARS!

McD's makes money off of KILLING YOU. Don't let them prosper by your DEATH. They have PURPOSELY and KNOWINGLY poisoned and addicted you. Don't give them another DIME of your hard earned cash.

I never expected sooo many responses (and such good ones). Thank you all so much.

Yes, I'm well aware of the nasty state of McDonald's (aka - cemetary food). I guess for some reason I just think the burritos are okay. But from previous experience with other cravings, I have had great success using mantras. I think the combination of really trying to eat right and repeating it to yourself over and over again are very successful.

For the past few months I've made the burritos here at home using just egg and cheese minus the sausage and that is okay. But Alissa's plan uses no egg or cheese and it's very important to me that I try it her way for atleast 30. It's why I bought the book and dvd, so I really want to see if it works. I am looking forward to having tons of energy and feeling good (the weight loss an added perk). Thank you all so much again. I guess I was just hoping for a good egg recipe, I can use the corn tortilla and nacho cheese recipe in Alissa's book. But today I'm just going to start with a strawberry and banana smoothie and maybe some cantalope too. I want to keep it as simple as possible since I was very close to being 100% raw for the past few months. The only naughty stuff I've done has been the burritos and one cup of coffee a week (on Sunday mornings with the hubby). So I'm pretty much already there. I've done mostly just eating whole fruits and veggies, some juicing and a lot of salads. Also the walnut fudge in the book is to die for so that helps me with the sweet cravings which are really almost gone.

This month will be my first time going 100% raw so wish me luck and for the third time thanks for all of your support and suggestions and if anyone should ever find a GOOD egg recipe let me know:)

Try Alissa's pecan burgers and add dried sage to it....actually use alot of sage in them. I've actually never had their sausage sandwich but I know that when I put sage in my pecan or garden burgers it reminds me of meatloaf or something like that when I was growing up. Personally, I don't try to mimic meat, I just try to find new things that I enjoy and start loving them.

I concur. Her carrot - pecan recipe is great. It also makes a great pate if used undehydrated! The sage suggestion is spot on; also try adding a bit of thyme.

There is an eggless spread recipe on here that is very good. I would try that as a replacement. It doesn't taste like an egg but it's a good replacement that is healthy.

I second doing the taco meat or Alissa's carrot pecan burger and changing up the seasonings with sage, etc. Have you tried Ani Phyo's spanish scramble recipe. It is to die for and you could add the mock sausage to it. Im sure you could change up the seasonings to give it a cheesy taste....maybe add some nutrional yeast.

Eggless Breakfast Scramble
In a processor toss in...

1 cup almonds, dry
1/2 cup sunflower seeds, dry
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon tumeric
1/2 cup filtered water

Put in a bowl.

Ani makes it Spanish style by adding

Fold these ingredients into the bowl mixture.

1/4 cup cilantro
1/2 cup tomato, diced
2 Tablespoons scallions, chopped
1 batch Love the Chicks Pate
1/2 cup spinach leaves
pinch black pepper

parsnip

I think trying to find a raw substitute for McDonalds' food is a like trying to find a raw substitute for diet Coke... it doesn't exist in nature! :) The thing I've found about fast food is that more I eat, the more I want. I do believe it's MSG or something like that -- it just triggers the cravings. If you stop eating it, the cravings will go away, sooner or later, most likely sooner.

What helps me with stuff like that is to have plenty of raw food handy that I really like. Green smoothies, avocados, dates, figs -- whatever it is that you like. And that stuff is so good that it puts anything from McDonalds to shame! Plus you have the satisfaction of not having caved.

Google Supersize Me. There is a link online to watch the full thing for free. It is about 145 minutes long I think. The video runs really smooth and you will not want the burritos after that.:eek:
