Garlic! (Russian penicillin!) onions...
when I'm getting sick, I make a warm broth with TONS of garlic & onions & celery, let it sit awhile 1st (to soften, rather than cooking) & then get it all down over a few hours...I use AT LEAST 10 cloves of garlic...it ALWAYS works! (But, whooo boy, my breath!!)

Read (in Prevention, I think) to leave garlic out for 10 minutes after cutting, then use! Multiplies the healing benefits lots!

(I know many raw foodists don't do garlic or onions, so feel free to ignore me!)

Also, a teasoon of pure, organic honey will soothe your throat!
Just said a prayer for you, & will continue to.

I know that garlic is great...I used all of my raw supplies over the holidays...My parents have health issues for I cooked (and some uncooked)for my parents, siblings, great neices and nephews, ....

You get the picture.

So, I have used most of my supplies. Made a drink w/ fresh pineapple, frozed blackberries, strawberries, maca, almond milk, and a little organic honey.

Too sick to leave the house yet...

Coughing so much, my neck and ears hurt...

sickness sucks...I rarely hear anyone talk about getting sick on this sight. I feel crummy and I feel crummy.

hey--

i would go for the hot tea; try one of those "traditional medicinals" or yogi tea brand, "throat-coat" or whatever other one corresponds with your symptoms. if you dont want to do hot, just do warm. warm is ok and still "raw"

The key ingredient is slippery elm in the throat coat and it WILL soothe and coat your throat. if you dont want to use the tea, you could get slippery elm powder in bulk from a hfs or herb shop. maybe mix it with warm water and honey. licorice also seems to be soothing.

my roomate, on the advice of a ND, also told me to take high doses of vitamin C; she uses those emergen-C packs, take a couple packs (1000 mg each) every six hours until symptoms are gone; you determine how many packs to take by taking up to the amt that gives you loose bowels. the vit C wont get rid of the sickness necessarilyl but for many people does tend to shorten the duration. my roommate also takes it with "airborne" (again, raw? i dunno).

-sometimes lemon juice and honey can soothe too; both are mildly antibacterial, i think, and the honey soothes.
-if you can get it in the right place and have a food-grade oil, clove essential oil works as a numbing agent for sore gums/mouth/throat.
-an ND also told my roommate to snort cardamom powder to relieve stuffy nose/congestion. she said it worked, but i make no claims about its efficacy or safety :)

(moderator, feel free to delete the below advice, as i know its not raw, but unless anyone can come up with some better suggestions, this is the closest to raw, or at least "pure" i have found to relieve severe sore throat symptoms...so im just offering advice. if there are better, and viable, raw alternatives, i'd be happy to learn about them--thx)

depending on how "raw" you are in regards to meds, i have found those zinc lozenges to really help sore throat, kind of numbs it enough so you can function and sleep...theres a commercial brand called cold-eeze thats full of sugar and junk, but i did find a natural one that, though not raw, is free of artificial colors, etc and uses brown rice syrup as a sweetner...not raw, but my throat was killing me and i figured it was better than alot of other alternatives.
similarly some of my friends have sworn by zycam, an OTC homeopathic med. the zycam brand though appears to be mainstream and put out by the pharmaceutical companies (?) and is full of other junk though, so i would go find the homeopathic remedy in its purer form. you dont need the artificial flavors, etc. check the active ingredient on zycam and then go find the homeopathic remedy. thats not going to be raw either though, or probably not vegan either, because its usually in a lactose (milk-sugar) base.

good luck

I agree with the above posts regarding garlic when your not feeling well. When I am feeling poorly I increase my fresh raw juice consumption and put some garlic in each juice I make. I especially like apple/orange/garlic and find I can put a lot of garlic in that one. HTH

I know this may sound weird, but whenever I feel like I might be coming down with something, I eat a ton of broccoli. It has something like three times the amount of vitamin C in an orange. I'm pretty strict with the 100% raw, so no warm teas or broths or any OTC meds for me. I just try to get as much rest as possible.....after all, that's what the sickness is telling you that you need! Hope you feel better soon!
