I had some in my cabinet and thought I'd try a taste. I put about one tablespoon in a jar and soaked and sprouted them; however, their shells were still hard. Are they supposed to be this way? Also can you successfully replace soft wheat berries in recipes with millet? Thanks!

I remember I bought millet once and don't even remember WHAT made me buy it in the first place. But yes, I used to use it in my grawnola and LOVED the crunch it gave it. Yep, the shell remains hard/crunchy. Other than my grawnola, I never used it for anything else and I'm not sure what else it can be used for, but I'm sure there's gotta be something! ;)

I plan to dehydrate the grain combination found on the ingredient list on a package of ezekiel sprouted tortillas - I used to buy those pretty often so I jotted it down and saved it for future reference - but haven't tried it yet:
(in order by amount)
sprouted wheat
water
unhulled sesame seeds
sprouted soybeans
sprouted barley
sprouted MILLET
sprouted lentils
sprouted spelt
sea salt
hmmmm - wonder if this would be good raw style???
