Yesterday, I experimented with some pastry. Now, I don't have a deyhydrator yet, so I am initially trying to find a recipe that works, so I cooked it for 12 mins in the oven. When I get my dehydrator this year I will do it properly.
I used 1/2 ounce of ground pecans, 1 1/2 ounces of ground almonds and 1 ounce of pea protein powder. For the fat, I used 1/2 ounce of coconut oil. and I used just enough water to start to bind it. Just like normal pastry. Of course, it was sticky and I had to roll it out in between two sheets of cling film, but it tased very good. A bit like digestive biscuits but with a pecan taste. The texture was like digestive biscuits too. I used just 1/2 ounce coconut oil as I was trying to offset the oil in the nuts.
Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated. I dont want dates or walnuts in the pastry as I find them too strong. I am trying to find something like normal pastry. Would using sprouted wheat grains put through the matstone help??:)

pea protein powder? I've never heard of that. Being the curious type, why and how did you find that? Is it raw?

We were at a fund-raiser not too long ago at Taste of the Goddess and they had a pie/turnover, SOMETHING ~ that had pastry. It was sooooo thin and crispy. If someone could find THAT recipe, that would be waaay cool!

Thin and crispy pie crust??? Is that possible....we have to find the recipe for that!
Revell: Do you know the people who made it? Would they be willing to share the recipe??

I think I will give sprouted/dried/ground grains a try.

Thanks for the tip

Nope! Dunno. As I said, I had it at Taste of the Goddess. Might email them. I'd like to know myself but not requested it from them, yet.

It would be wonderful to have that thin, crispy pastry recipe...

blix -- your pastry sounds good. I'm not sure that pea protein powder is really raw, though i don't know for sure... maybe you could use something else instead such as powdered wheat grain or oat grain.

You could offer to interview them in return for the recipe. They may want the publicity.

Sport, that is SO FUNNY! I was thinking the same thing...like, "Hey Revvell, ask them if they would like an interview!!" BUT, I was afraid I was being to forward......LOL.

Glad someone else mentioned it....GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!!:D

I bought the pea protein powder when I stopped being vegetarian and became vegan. I got it as I wasn't sure that I was getting enough protein. I used it instead of milk protein. The only thing is, there is a huge tub of it, so I have been thinking of ways to use it up. If it isn't raw, I may just put some in the wild birds food (carrot/apple pulp, porridge oats, sunflower seeds, wild bird seeds). What I am trying to do also, is to lose weight. I have a book called 'the vegetarian low carb diet' and she uses 8 ounces of ground almonds to 2 ounces of butter for pastry, which, she says, tastes like normal pastry. I used coconut oil instead of butter, but made a smaller quantity, but it was too crumbly. I think it was the pea protein powder that made the taste like digestive biscuits. She said that wheat was high carb. so I didn't use it. I think I will try the grain mix though.

Being forward? With me??? Gurl!!! That's the ONLY way I like people! Straight-forward, direct... *whispers* I knew what you were hinting at. :)
