Now I've only tried Alissa's Favorite Dressing and her Stuffed Mushrooms, so I know it's not fair to say "I don't like raw recipes!" I'm just scared I'm not going to like any of them!
My DH and I are starting the 30 Day Challenge on Thur, and we read the menu and it looks great, but what if we make it all and we don't like it?
When you all started making raw recipes did you not like them either? Did you have to come around to liking raw recipes?

i didn't like them either at first. I saw a (SAD) chef on tv today that made a good point. he said that you should only use other people's recipe as a guideline and make it to your own personal taste. Also, I do think it takes time for some of the particular tastes to grow on you. The first time I tried Nori I gagged. Now I love it so much that I eat 2 nori rolls a day!

Hi Freshie,
A few things to keep in mind:
1. We don't like all cooked foods either...there are some we like, some we love and some we hate so it stands to reason it'd be the same with raw recipes
2. Oftentimes it's a matter of tastebuds being so affected by the flavors of cooked food that they can't really "appreciate" (for lack of better term) the flavors of raw recipes BUT...oftentimes people find that after a while of being raw, they end up liking or even loving some of the very things they tasted at first but hated.
3. Always, always, ALWAYS make half (or even quarter where feasible) of the recipe when trying for the very first time. This saves on wasted food and disappointment when you don't like a dish. Also, consider looking into some raw food meet-ups/potlucks in your area so you can get to try various raw dishes for free! :)
Hang in there...you won't like everything, but you won't hate everything either. You can start off eating the fresh fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds you love and from there, try really simple recipes (desserts almost always go over the best) such as Date Nut Torte or Ice cream made from frozen bananas or the chocolate pudding recipes here on the forum...stuff like that. And don't be afraid to tweak things...if you KNOW you're not much of a garlic lover but you see a recipe that calls for 4 cloves of garlic...are you going to actually put 4 cloves in there or are you going to say to yourself, "I'm really not big on garlic so I'd better cut that down a bit...I can always add more later if I need to"
P.S. Alissa states that you don't have to stick to the menu in her book for the 30 days...find things YOU like and eat those...it's a guide. Some stick to the plan and love everything or almost everything, but that won't be the case with every person...so make what you like.

Not to worry. You don't have to prepare foods in recipes to enjoy raw foods. I enjoy eating foods as they come out of the garden without anymore preparation then cutting them with a knife, blender, or juicer. Many of my foods are eaten whole as finger foods like eating grapes from a cluster or peeling a banana. Experiment to find what works best for you and eat the raw foods that you like, prepared the way that you like. Try a variety of recipes and different ways to prepare raw foods and take your time and find your own path. Eating raw is freedom and fun. Good luck and enjoy your raw food journey and your new year. -- EZ

EZrider - I really think you are great! I want to stay at 100% raw and then, someday it is my goal to eat as simple as you do. You make the simple and ready to eat food sound the best!;)

I made nori rolls for my parents over the holidays and my mom literally gagged right at the table. She felt so bad! But she tried! :D
Same with spirulina. I fed some to them and they were absolutely repulsed.
To redeem myself, I whipped up some green smoothies and they absolutely loved them.
Anyway, I think a lot of things are probably an acquired taste combined with listening to the body and feeding it what it needs. Most of the time I don't really want recipes, either.
Just eat what tastes good!! :p

Yes, the longer you are raw having given your system a good SAD purge your tastes change big time. Like yourself I really did not like raw recipes at first (3yrs ago) but your taste buds do change - for the better!
There are so many things that literally I thought I would die before trying again that I now love. It's really great to watch yourself grow and change so much with raw.
I would suggest your give Alissa's Almost Tuna a try. It has great texture and flavor and I loved this one at once.:)
I also found that the more i tried to duplicate recipes to match SAD the more dissapointed I was so I started looking for recipes that we unfamilliar that way I was not comparing them to a SAD version.
Enjoy the journy!

I could not stand the smell or taste of cilantro a year ago - now I put it in everything! Some recipes will improve to you. Just keep trying to make what 'sounds' good to you and eventually the tastes will agree with you more and more. Good luck to you .
