View Full Version : Biggest Loser Challenge 4 ya!

I've challenged myself FOR THE YEAR that, every Tuesday, when I watch Biggest Loser, I'm going to spend that hour working out (even after my morning exercise) & am going to not get distracted (phone, daughter, etc.) but spend it {gently} pushing my body to work much harder than usual, as they do...{I'll prepare during the half hour before, so I'm ready as it starts! Workout clothes, set up/clear exercise area, get water, turn phone off!}
(I'll be getting my hour a day workout in as usual, but have to really pace myself, can only do a few minutes at a time...)
...I just saw Bob & Gillian on Larry King, with this last season's winners, & they said that, while on the ranch (those 3 months) they work out about 4 hours a day! (Then they have 3 months at home before the final weigh-in).
I know I can't push as hard as they do, {yet?!?!?} but I'm going to push myself to SWEAT, to breath hard, to do more than I think I can...even if it means that Wednesdays are my weekly "day of rest" from exercise, to recover, it'll be worth it!
My other goal is that, as the year progresses, I'll add another day, then another, where I double my workouts...
...considering that I can only be on my feet a few minutes at a time right now, this really, really challenges me...(I do workout on the floor, & can last longer that way, but know I need to get my leg strength back!)
So.....anyone care to join me? We can chat about it afterwards, keep accountable, check in with the exercise pro's here for help, as needed! {"Help, I'm on the floor & I can't get up! Or BREATHE!!!" LOL!}
Last time I watched Biggest Loser, I was sitting at my desk, eating...well, I'm not goona tell ya what I was eating!!! Lemme just say it wasn't at all raw!!! Talk about convicting!!! Still I watched, & ate it anyways...no more of THAT silliness!!!

I can't join ya (that's bedtime for all the lil pumpkindoodles) but I think that's an AWESOME idea. I fell in love with the show this past season and it really motivated me each time I saw it. It was hard not to get out of bed and start doing crunches! LOL!

That's funny, you were responding to my challenge as I was reading your other blog, & your blog here, & commenting in it!
Can you record it, watch it later, whenever it does work for you? Just an idea...I'd love to do this with others!
By the way, I LOVE your name! What does it mean? Is it Hebrew? It's sooo pretty!

I really can't do it. My house is 200 years old and there is NO place to exercise here that doesn't cause plaster to crack and fall. LOL! My screen name is hebrew. It means Victory. I chose it because I am having victory over many things that have kept me "down" in the past. I am seriously thinking about changing it permanently.

Ok, wow, that's the BEST reason I've EVER heard for NOT exercising at home!!!!!
I think you should change it, it really is lovely! & suits you! {Says one who's never met you *grin*!}
Victory is a wonderful name!
I love sharing what mine means when people ask me...it means
"Ressurrection!"
...& my mom was in labor with me from Good Friday until Easter Sunday! {She said she felt ressurrected, alright, once I was finally born!!!}

I finally had to face facts and join the gym last month. I have a nice yard in the warmer months, but I live in snowsville usa :rolleyes: and there are no side walks in the winter.
I LOVE your name and how you got it! That's such a special story. :)

You mentioned that the contestants worked out 4 hours a day ! wow is an understatement. Do you know if they built up to that time? I find it difficult to believe, but maybe simply walking was a start ? I actually could manage to do that this month, but dang that's a BIG BITE to commit to.
I've also wondered if plastic surgery had been involved at any point after the weight loss. Have you read/heard anything about that?

I'll definately join this challenge! I've managed to work out while watching during the commercials maybe every 3rd episode, but other episodes I sit on my butt and eating bad stuff. The last episode, when I first went raw, I was eating raw nuts and dates. This time I'll try to always eat healthy if I'm watching while eating, or get up and exercise! I'm so excited about tonight's episode!!!

Great Idea!! I would love to join you.
I was also motivated during previous programs, and would find myself down on the floor doing situps or another forms of exercise.:D

01-01-2008, 03:15 PM
Woohoo, I'm so excited!!! & i thought I'd NEVER work out with others at this weight!!! Ok, so we're in our own homes, but it's a start!!!
& wait a minute, starfruit...um, I mean starbright...hold on, I better check on that...oops, Starborne!!!...I NEVER said I was goona do what they did, 4 hours a day!
Are you kidding?!?!?!?
{Gasp!*#$%Sputter!!**&%$#GAG!?!!@#%**}
I can't even be on my feet 4 hours a day at this point!
I'm going to do my usual 1 hour a day commitment of movement (though it has to be broken up still, usually into 10-15 minute segments) then, on Tuesdays, I'll push myself to do an extra hour, while the shows on! That's it! I will be a Biggest Loser, but I ain't goona be dropping 150 lbs in 6 months!!! Well, maybe 100...or more...Ok, we'll see!!!
& when Gillian & Bob were interveiwed, they said there was absalutely NO plastic surgery....all the exercise tightened them up....some still had some loose skin, mainly depending on their age, I think...& how big they were to start with, & for how long...
...Off to look in the fridge & see what I can make a salad out of...groceries tomorrow, yay! & hopefully a ride to the health food store!

Tee hee ... I didn't assume that you meant for us to exercise for 4 hours!
I just found it incredible, and then thought, well .... gee, I guess it's possible if one starts out slowly. I only committed to 30 min. this month, and if I do more great!
I was wondering about the surgery simply because of all the extra skin. I personally know a lady that had gastroc surgery, lost over 180 pounds, but still wants more surgery for the extra skin removal. Her doctors are estimating that this extra skin accounts for at least 30 more pounds.
Happy moving !

Hope y'all did better than me! I did do some stretching & a bit of using my hand weights, but all sitting...my legs gave out on me a few hours ago, little sleep last night, etc.
...so I taped it (sorry for repeating myself from the other post) & will workout extra tomorrow when I watch it...
...it looks like it'll be a good season!!! I really like the way they have the teams this time!

well I didnt end up exercising during the show. I gorged myself on dates and nuts :( :( :( Even though they are raw, I feel so bloated and tired now.
I'll try next week, and tomorrow I'm going for a run!

I ended up doing about 45. min. of gentle bouncing on my rebounder during the marathon sessions of the repeat; so when the show came on, I did about another 20 min. on the rebounder, and a few floor exercises. So I think I did pretty good.
I also ordered yesterday on-line, Jillian's book on Winning by Losing, and signed up for her on-line support group as well. Not sure that was really worth it though, once I see it. Obviously, food choices are different than what I prefer, and probably the exercises will be shown in her book. As far as anything else offered -- like support -- I can get that here for free !

I did pretty good. I started out walking in place 10min. Then moved in to floor excercises. Sit-ups, leg lifts. I stood and did arms then lifted my legs behind me to work my backend. Nothing too strenuous. Although, I did push each move to the point of fatigue. I did not break a sweat, but I did groan alot.:o

Same time next week!!!
My sis, who's always been super slim, (got the english, tiny bone structure in the family, not the ukrainian, like the rest of us! Lol!) loves the show, too, especially sinse she's gained 40 or so pounds (which, on her, looks like she's 5 or 6 months preggers!) & now wants to learn more about raw, smoothies, & detox! (From cigs & Coffee) so she calls me as the show's starting, sometimes in the middle, & then we talk about it at the end! Fun! & she's asking me for links to the best raw info, so she can get healthy! (then drinks a pot of coffee at 8 pm on a work nite! Sheesh!) After YEARS of my tellin' her stuff! never before we're truly ready, huh?
I did watch it again today, & did what I could, but have realized that I overdid it a bit yesterday, & if I don't pace myself, & start out slow, I'll end up not being able to do much at all! So I mainly stretched, rebounded, used the physioball some, & did weights~
I keep thinking about how HARD they push themselves, even the older, & the heaviest folks, & it makes me wanna push harder!
I know they don't have FM, etc., but it's soooo frustrating to have to hold back, when i wanna JUST DO IT!!!!
Anyone else struggle with this? (Lol, before, I had soooo little desire to exercise, but lately, I have dreams where I'm running, swimming, & hiking in the mountains in a light rain!)

It's NEVER too late! Jes' jump on in!:D
It really keeps me going as I'm watching it (& keeps me off the couch!), knowing others are joining me at the same time, watching it with me, being inspired by it, & challenging our bodies!
Biggest Loser Australia is on on Thursdays here (Bob & Gillian are on it there, too!), so I'm doing it then, too, & whenever I watch re-reuns during the week!:eek:
One more day! Can't weight to see how they've done this week...& if my weight loss is as high as some of theirs sinse returning to raw & exercise!
{
Tuesdays are also now my official weigh-in day!}

Yay! Biggest Loser is on for me in 10 minutes!
I still dont have room here at my mom's house to exercise while watching the show, but next week I'll be back in school with my big living room to jump around in! I have my treadmill and mini trampoline up there, with my hand weights and resistance bands. I will get up during commercials tonight and walk around/do some jumping jacks, once my dinner settles in my stomach.

Oooh, it was sooo good tonight, & the team I really wanted to have stay got to, though just barely!
It was soooooo inspirational, & I love that they have prizes now for the weekly winners (whoever lost the most...which woulda been ME this week, I lost 10 pounds!!! (Well, sinse 2 days before the 1st...)
I did workout, & on commercials, we ran & set the new bed up, made it & tidied up!
Then, for the last few minutes of the show (it WAS 2 hours!) we shared a BIG yummy salad!!! I WISH THEY KNEW ABOUT RAW ON THE SHOW!!!
How'd y'all do tonight? Did ya get to see it?
I SOOOOO wanna go on a teeter-totter like that!!!
Guess I'll hafta lose enough weight to go on some normal-sized big ones in a park one day, without worrying about breaking it!
(or actually finding someone to weigh down evenly the other side!}

I only got to see a little bit of the show because of the election. I think that it was on earlier and I didn't know until it was almost over. Those teeter totters did look really fun though. I did work out for the hour. I'm going to try and cath the Australian show on Thursday.

Hmm
I love watching the show too lol and when I see how they push I keep expecting some of them to have a heart attack!:eek:
Count me in I will rebound during the show, as I usually have just returned from a Brikman Yoga work out.
And as soon as my body is ready I promise to hit the gym and try a more brutal weight work out from the " Biggest Looser "book which I got for Xmas" ( I do not follow the food advice in there.)
Good luck to all!!

Well, I didn't make the exercising this week, although I did watch the show.
I've been detoxing from caffeine and alcohol (toooo much Vegas on vacation at Christmas! ) since last Thursday and I've been having massive headaches since then. I also decided to start the Master Cleanse as a prelude to more consistent raw food habits.
I have, however, walked for two days in a row of about 45 min. each.

Yay, thanks for joining me, everyone!
Janeymac, I almost missed it, too, it was on an hour earlier than usual! If my sis hadn't called me I would've missed it! I'm glad you caught some, at least!
Good for you for working out for the hour! I found myself wishing last night that they had those teeter-totters in parks here! (with comfortable seats, of course!)
Yeshi, yea, I worry about the same thing, especially the older & heaviest ones! I know they monitor their heart health first...but still!!! Just the way they push to puking point kinda freaks me out! Don't do THAT when you do your extreme workout, k???
Starborne, sorry to hear about your headaches! Have you tried the cure I wrote about earlier?
Run hot, then cold, then hot water over your hands (& feet, on the edge of the tub) for a minute or two each temp, as hot/cold as you can stand....draws the pounding blood from your temples to your extremities...
...that's great that you've been walking, I need to get out there again! (My first 20 minute walk sent me into a major FM flare-up, *sigh*...but I'm ready to try again! Two days in a row would be hard for me right now! Keep goin'!
& I hope your headaches are resolved quickly!
& where was everyone else??? Didja watch it??? Workout with us????

Anastazia, I hear ya about working out to the point of puking. I guess a LOT of toxins must have been stirred up . Poor guy, I emphathize.
I was sooooooooo surprised to see such a low weight loss with most contestants. These people look like they really really REALLY go at it hard.
You know, the water was the only thing that helped really when they were really bad. I didn't do hot/cold, I just ran hot water as I could stand it, sit on the edge of tub, and put in essential oils that I know that help headaches. It would work temporarily. Gosh, I don't know how many baths I took !
BTW, I'm a massage therapist too. I've been working on my own suboccipitals/scalenes, traps, etc. with a Thera-cane. Gawd, the next best thing to self gratification since the vibrator!

I think the reason they lose less some weeks (especially after a BIG loss the week before!) is their metabolism is catching up, adjusting, & a lot of the big losses the first week or two is water weight! If I felt like I might puke during exercise, I'd slow down, or STOP, not keep going & puke! Yea, I guess detoxing like that could bring it on! Yuk!:p
I always wanted to get a thera-cane! Hear it's great for folks with FM! I'm not an 'official' MT, just self trained (& took a 6 month course once) but have always loved to massage, & have very strong hands...(too strong for skinny folks, who just don't rave about my massages like those with a little 'meat' (um, veggies?) on their bones do!:rolleyes:

Looks like Jillian was right when at the beginning of the show she thought that the 'couple' concept for Biggest Loser wasn't such a good idea due to the fact of enabling, sabotage, etc. I felt bad for Amy having to go home when it was due to her Neil's attitude.
Anyway ... I did my extra workout during part of the show. It took me about 1/2 hr. to set up my exercise area with books, resistance bands, floor mat, rebounder ... etc. But I did a straight 30 min. of exercising with another 10 min. of stretching.
How is everybody else?
Anastazia
01-16-2008, 03:20 PM
yea, I felt really bad for Amy, too, & Neil seemed like he was finally starting to get it together, but still, I was kinda glad it was him, & not the others who are working sooo hard!
I barely saw any of it last night, I was taping it, trying to watch it while I was placing my organic co-op order (1st time, so it took an hour!!!) to meet their deadline, & I FORGOT it started at 7, not 8, so I missed the first hour of it!!! Argh!:eek:
But later today, I'll watch what I do have on tape, & get some exercise in...tummy's upset today,:( haven't eaten, & it's 1 in the afternoon...goona make a smoothie, I think...
...haven't weighed in yet, either (usually do Tuesday mornings, forgot to, today, too, but will tomorrow morning!)
How'd everyone else do? Didja watch...& workout???:D

I'll be joining you!!! I've started that same routine! I'm only weighing myself after the show (and Wednesday morning) and working out the rest of the week while making good choices in my diet! This week was 4 pounds for me! Hopefully next week will be a little more!
I ordered Bob and Jillian's workout DVDs and they should be here soon! I can't wait to start working out with Bob and Jillian in my home! woo hoo!
(Right now I mix it up with cardio and yoga)

GLAD YOU'RE JOINING US!
I've wondered about the intensity of their workouts...I know I couldn't keep up at this point...& I take it that they're geared to home workouts, not with all the plus-size equipment they have?
I'd love to hear more about the DVD's & get your reveiw when you get them!
Thanks!
~Anastazia~
i love that show! that's the only day i don't get home after 9! :eek:
i'm w/ you guys! i loved amy & neill. when everyone was just so down on neill, she was w/ him 100%! i'd love to have someone like that in my life who is so supportive! she the best! :o
i hope the two 20s lose some weight soon. what is up w/ that? they exercise like everyone else, not sure what they're eating though. why are they losing such smaller amounts compared to others? :confused:
right now, i'm doing cardio, too. i'm adding in yoga, b/c i've been feeling bodily aches! so it'll be a miracle if i'm consistent w/ yoga, since i prefer fast-paced exercise, but hey, girl wants to stretch, too.

I just got the DVD yesterday (it's the 1st one with just Bob)!
We did the workout last night and I don't think it's too difficult - his "back up dancers" are the contestants so they don't do everything perfect which is what I like! I want to see REAL people! :)
On the DVD they also have Suzy and Matt's inspirational stories! I loved watching the change that came over them through the 12 weeks! I wonder what they're up to now?!
