I'm new and I've never posted on a forum before so bear with me! I'm a stay home mom of three sweet children ages 5, 3, and 1. I've been researching raw foods for about a year now and I'm gradually increasing raw foods in my family's and my diet and would LOVE to really go for it! What holds me back is fear of loosing weight. I'm 5'7" and 115 lb and nursing my 12 month old. I'm always hungry and eat a lot anyway. It's hard for me to imagine not starving on this diet! My kids are all skinny too. They register just below 0% on the "growth chart". My husband is cautiously trying my new dishes but he isn't ready to give up "real food" yet:-) I'm ready to give it a go though and need all the support I can get:) I look forward to meeting all of you!

Welcome Osa! I'm here on the coast in Florence. One of the many things I love about eating Raw is that I actually feel truly satisfied eating this way, and not that bloated kind of satisfaction from eating carbs.

Hope you got some good health food stores, or a good garden, in your neck of the woods.

I would strongly recommend getting Alissa's book if you don't have it ~ I am rarely hunger when I follow her meal plan. In fact, when I first went raw my complaint was that I always felt so full. Good luck and welcome to RFT! :D

I live in Sandy. We're about 45 min east of Portland and 30 min west of Mt. Hood. I have a little veggie garden (I didn't have to buy lettuce May through November!) and Wild Oats is only 15 min away. If we're ever in Medford I'll have to check out those potlucks! I'm almost finished reading Victoria's book 12 Steps to Raw foods and I'll check out Alissa's book next. Thanks!

Aloha and Welcome to RFT Osa!!! So glad to have you joining us! The beautiful thing about this LIFEstyle is that our bodies find their balance - and settle into the weight that is best for us. I have heard though that initially - there may be some weight loss --- then weight gain -- some fluctuation before our bodies finally find that perfect balance....

Blessings on your journey....

Hi, & welcome!
I agree with others here, there are ways to do this without struggling with hunger, or drastic (unwanted) weight loss...avacadoes help, nuts, too, but not in excess, of course!
It's good that you've been increasing the amount of RAW gradually, it'll help your body adjust...your body does have a setpoint, right? You'ld likely have to seriously undereat to lose weight when you're already slim...
...course, this is being written by someone who's NEVER had this concern!!!

Hi! Where in Oregon do you live? My twin sister is 100% raw and lives on the west side of Portland, in Aloha. She could be a great friend and resource for you! She's been raw for almost 2 years now and can answer your questions and help you find stuff in your area. If you live in Portland, let me know!

Oops! I just read that you live in Sandy. Well, that's on the other side of Portland, but if you want a raw friend in the Beaverton area, let me know and I'll give you my sister's e-mail address, okay?

peace

Welcome to the group!! I second the recommendation to read Alissa's book. It addresses some of those questions about weight. There's also a raising raw kids section here on the forum where you find out more about the littles on raw!! So glad you've joined us, and I wish you much success!!

Hey!
I've been away from the computer a few days so I didn't see your post until today. It would be about an hour drive to Aloha from here but it would still be cool to talk with your sister if she has time. I haven't personaly met any raw fooders yet although I have a couple of friends who are interested. I saw your blog. How long have you lived in Korea? Wow! That's a loooooong way away:-)
I'm a Christian too and met my husband in Costa Rica while I was at a Bible school there. I know what you mean about God being the match maker!
There are so many great people at this site! Nice to meat you!
