tamarind?

i bought some tamarind today on a whim. i know it can be used for soups and sauces but i've never tasted it on its own. is it something you can eat straight from the pod?

does anyone have favorite recipes involving tamarind?

I like it right out the pod. You can make drinks with it and chipotle sauce.

When I lived in Asia I ate tamarind as a snack all the time...now I'm craving some! I just peeled it opened and sucked the fruit off the pods/seeds inside...so good! Enjoy!

Where do you get whole tamarind? I found it as a paste, and also saw "instant tamarind" or something like that which I wasn't sure was raw so I didn't take it.
