What Is A Master Cleanse? I Might Be Interested Since I Have Severe Constipation.

Yes I will be cleansing...I love to start the end and the beginning of a year this way and I desperately need the focus....

joon4yu-
below is some basic info about master cleanse...it is just one of numerous ways to cleanse/fast or whatever your purpose may be...this particular cleanse is credited to stanley burroughs and you find his book online, the master cleanser.... many who do this particular cleanse substitute the maple syrup for raw agave... I've done this cleanse many times and it find it to be very cleansing. I think the longest I've done the cleanse is just short of 40 days. The longer you cleanse with this particular cleanse - at least in my experience-the more demanding it is on the physical body if you have a lot going on -work/school/kids for example- when I was working 12-16 hour shifts, this was a killer (falling asleep driving - too crazy, should have used common sense)and I think that in hindsight, it is important to note the fasting is best done when you can truly focus and will not be distracted by life's demands....Also, long term cleansing with the master cleanse did bring about constipation which I suppose is to be expected at some point especially when the digetstive system basically goes into a rest period (due to not having solids).. some people take a epsom salt formula upon rising which is supposed to get things moving if you know what I mean.....Personally, all that sodium is not best for me; I do an herbal tea solution when I need to get things going and abdominal massage isn't working...I guess I'm going on and on. It's also imporant to drink plenty of water; This isn't for everyone and that's cool, there's plenty of cleansing and fasting methods around... look on the website for stanley burroughs and the master cleanse...also there might be some past threads here regarding this..

Do what's best for you......

Hi,
I would like to do the MC for the next 10 days. BUT.....I am a teacher and I just can't leave my second graders and run across the school to the bathroom whenever "it" hits. (My room is the farthest away from the restroom.)

Can I do the SWF after school instead? If I stop drinking the lemonade around 5:00 or 6:00, then wait 4 hours?

Thanks. I don't want to wait until Spring Break to do it.

hi Nini... I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you but I'm not sure about the technicalities of the SWF. I do believe that Starfire does the MC without the salt water flush maybe she will have some good advice. You could also drink the herbal laxative tea morning and night instead of doing the SWF.

I don't do the SWF at all but I think you could definitely do it in the evening when you know your going to be in for the evening and in the event that you need to make that fast dash....:D

Hi guys,

I'd like to join you. I'm going to start tomorrow, the 2nd. I have been wanting to try this and it seems like a great way to reinduct myself to 100% raw and also I have been sick so hopefully it will get the last of it out of my system. I have never fasted before so I am going to play the legnth by ear - I may only do a few days to begin with. I'd like to at least go through the weekend though - that would be 5 days.

I was just thinking about you and wondering how you have been. Good luck on your fast. THe Master Cleanse is a great first fast to try. After you get over the initial head hunger you won't be hungry at all. I too need to do another one soon!

Well I had 2 lemonades and then I decided I really wanted a salad. I think I'm gonna try this on the weekend when I'm not sitting at a desk for 12 hours thinking about what I want to eat! Is there any benefit to drinking the lemonade and eating salads? Prolly not.

Hi Vegan Princess:) I started the master cleanse December 26 but before that I did a partial one where I had maybe 1 or 2 small salads a day or a green smoothie and had the lemonade the rest of the time. I'm not sure if this is good or bad but it helped me decrease my food to get ready for only drinking the lemonade. Whatever works for you I say! Good luck with your cleanse!:)

So far, it's the same ol' same ol'.... I have not had any major detox symptoms with any of my fasts..I think initially, At the most, I go back and forth between restless to being sleepy... we'll see this time around....

I don't know that I will do the MC exclusively during the entire fast period; I think I will at some point incorporate a couple of cleansing herbs that I take as teas..... we'll see

Today is Day 2; I haven't had any MC yet today which I should have but haven't got to the grocery store yet...the cold is a turn off for me..

Need more lemons though so I guess I better hit the streets...

I'm on day 9 today and I'm feeling tired physically and my emotions are all over the place.. I feel that all these old emotions have just popped up out of no where when I thought I'd dealt with them.. Maybe this is the emotional detox some people talk of not sure but I'm sure it's all onwards and upwards!

I'm doing good.. I'm on day 15 with 5 days to go before I transition. Some days I am shattered some days I'm fine. I got told I looked rather sick the other day. Does anyone know if you are supposed to continue with the laxative tea and salt water flushes when you transition and include orange juice?

It's my understanding that once you begin to transition out of the cleanse -- and begin the OJ -- that you no longer do the tea or SWF.

I have also heard that probiotics are strongly recommended. Has anyone done this with or without? And what were to results?

I am on Day 5. I am really impressed with how easy it has been to not eat. So weird.

I have heard the same as you hippie chick but this is my first master cleanse so don't have any experience with either way.

Yipeee !!!! I just stumbled across this thread!

I joined the 30 day fitness challenge -- for me right now that means simply walking and/or rebounding; have fallen off the 30 day 100% raw challenge in lieu of doing the MC now ... THEN I'll do the 30 day challenge next month.

I figured it is a great way to get rid of food addictions and move into 100% raw.

I'm now on Day 3. The first two days I did the laxative tea. I know from previous experience, I CANNOT do both tea AND SWF. So today was the first time I did SWF and am feeling a bit shaky. I did a suggestion I read about of 16 oz. seasalt water followed immediately by 16 oz. plain water. I seemed to get it down better, but I still have to hold my nose!:p

Oops, forgot to mention the part about candida. (see where I am ? ALLLL over the place ! ? ! )

Does the MC help kill off candida or feed it with the maple syrup? I'm not sure if I have candida or not, but my tongue is so coated I can't help but wonder. Also I have a lot of fatigue.

While I'm only on Day 3 of MC, I stopped caffeine and alcohol a week ago and have had headaches ever since. REALLY REALLY bad Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which I kind of expected. But when I still had them on Monday, I figured it was time to do a MC.

Now I'm wondering if the headaches I'm experiencing aren't the candida dying off ??

Any thoughts or suggestions from anybody?

Only from reading posts on other boards I have learned that agave is better to use if you have candida since the glycemic index is lower.

Thanks Hippiechick for the info.

I *DO* have candida. I took a home saliva test (see link) http://ww.nomorecandida.com/test.htm

I'm disappointed, but also relieved. I kinda suspected for a long time, now I know. I still want the benefits of fasting/cleansing though. Here's what I'm going to do to modify the MC.

The way I figure, the maple syrup has lots of minerals in it and is supposed to help with energy. I'm going to skip the maple syrup and use some liquid minerals instead. I have a whole gallon of it. The flavor of lemon water without sweetner doesn't bother me in the least.

At least this is what I'm going to try and see how I do. Time will tell.

I'll continue with the salt flushes.

What I'm looking to do is kill of the candida AND cleanse at the same time and I think the salt flushes will help remove the killed candida.

Not sure if everyone is done with their MC, but I'm still going cause I started late and I'm on Day 4.

As mentioned, I modified the cleanse, and it didn't seem to affect my hunger or energy. As a matter of fact I felt pretty darn good today except I'm not focused worth squat.

It was a little tough tonight going out to dinner with my dh, as I sat there while he ate and I drank water with a lemon wedge.

I'm determined to not only make it the 10 days, but to also go longer ... how much longer will be determined by my own body. I'll be watching for the hunger signs that tells me it's time to break the fast.

really great! I must say I was secretly, or maybe not so secret now, over the moon to drink the orange juice this morning. Orange juice has never tasted so good! :p But I have had a lot of emotional detox which is no doubt good for me, my body feels revitalised and ready for 2008! I'm still shocked that it's been so long since I've eaten!:)

starborne
01-12-2008, 08:59 AM
Yeah, that is amazing! :D

I'm only on Day 5 and wondering how long I can go.
I'd love to go 20 on the modified MC and then transition to a juice fast to get rid of the candida and then break the fast from there. I don't dare do OJ !

Boy can I see how the SWF is necessary, even if I don't like it. I woke up this morning verrry veerrrry shaky.

alicia_2007
01-12-2008, 03:55 PM
ooo yes the SWF does wonders even if I couldn't stand the taste! I had to mix the salt in with a little water so I only had to swallow three big gulps then I washed the revolting taste away with a litre of water. I tried drinking it mixed into the litre of water and there was no way it was going down!:p

hippiechick704
01-12-2008, 05:35 PM
I cannot do the SWF. I wish I could. However, elimination has been good with cascara sagrada for me twice daily.

I am on day 8. I plan to do 17 days so I am half way. I have out of town plans with friends the weekend of the 25th so need to be fully transitioned by then.

The first few days I had horrible headaches. I haven't had headaches now for 4 days but I have been having terrible stomach aches periodically during the day that last 5-15 min and are quite intense.

My hunger has not completely subsided either. Wasn't that supposed to happen earlier than now? Oh well, I am still finding it fairly easy to not eat. It's so liberating!

starborne
01-12-2008, 06:42 PM
Great idea about just a little bit of water and salt. I've been doing 16 oz. of salt water followed by 16 oz. of water, but I think I'd prefer to try your way instead. Tomorrow I'm gonna skip it due to my schedule. It takes hours for the flush to get thru me and I can't afford to be somewhere not close to the toity. I'm drinking Smooth Move early tonight and will do the SWF when I get home tomorrow.

Hippiechick - I'm on day 5 and my hunger hasn't fully gone away either. Think I'll increase my water intake.

alicia_2007

I found the fatest way to get the salt water through you is to drink it all then lie on your right side for 30 mins. Some days it was an almost instant flush through effect! By doing this I was guaranteed to not need to be running to the toilet 2 hours from the time I drank the water.

Oh thank you for that advice !!! I'm going to try it tomorrow.

I just did an enema this morning because I had to get to work.

Now, I'm just too tired to mess with anything. Maybe I'll do some tea. I'm ready to go to bed and it's only 6:10 pm.

I fought food temptations all day yesterday; was okay today until I got home.

I ended up eating last night. A salad and baked potatoe (ewwww cooked foods) I was sooooooooo hungry. Have been hungry every evening. Eating really didn't screw up my system, meaning I didn't have any cramping or anything.

And... I'm back at it this morning with the MC. What I'm going to do different is make sure I get at least 10 glasses of the modified lemon juice and a ton of water a day.

Second thing is no TV. The commercials really get to me, even though I try to mute them. Plus I think doing something helps as a distraction rather than just sitting there watching the boob tube. This is a habit I've acquired only in the last year when I got married and my husband had cable. Previous to this I didn't watch TV. The last couple of years I got Netflix or rented videos which isn't anything like watching TV every night. Sooooooooo I guess this cleanse will help not only break the bad habits of alcohol, caffeine, and dairy, it's gonna help break the habit of TV too.

Does anybody else have any other suggestions to ward off the hunger? I kinda expected it the first 3 days, but I figured by Day 6 I would be okay. The daytime is okay ... it's the evenings !!

Oh, and are there any teas allowed on the MC besides laxative teas? Something that won't stimulate the appetite? I know Yogi teas has something called 'fasting tea' .

Just looking to make sure that I made the correct proportions on this one.

1 liter=33.8 oz so 1.5L=about 51 oz.

For 50 oz I put
5 tbsp of lemon juice and grade b maple syrup each
5tsp of cayenne pepper

It looks a bit more intense than the last time I made this.

Hi Starborne, good on you for jumping back in! As for hunger I just drank lots and lots of water when I was hungry and kept myself busy. I'm not sure about the teas though sorry. If it helps you maybe it's worth a shot!

Mueller... the proportions I did are below, these may be the same as what you wrote down but I'm not one to do calculations!:p
8 oz water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Mueller
01-14-2008, 03:20 PM
Per 10oz of water I did:
1 TBSP of lemon juice
1 TBSP of maple syrup
1 TSP(not 1/10th tsp!!!) of cayenne pepper.

If I hadn't been drinking a non maple syrup version of this drink for fun and games before this, this first drink might have been intense. :D

Well, I've stopped the cleanse. I got in 5 3/4 days. I'll probably jump to a juice fast at the start of next month. Still after 5 3/4 days, I see results. Cravings are gone, I feel more positive again ( back more to what I'm used to) and lost 6 pounds.

I'll catch up to ya'll on other threads. Thanks so much for being here and best to everyone still on this.

I'm on day 2 of the Master Cleanse and although I started off not feeling hungry this morning, I'm famished again this evening. I don't feel desperate to eat any food, but I would like to not feel so hungry. The only thing I'm not currently taking is the laxative tea, because I didn't get any when I went shopping. I'll buy some next time I go. I keep drinking the lemonade (organic maple syrup (no2), unwaxed lemons and cayenne pepper, but it doesn't keep my hunger at bay.

However, I'm doing online brain-training and my score was better than yesterday, so it doesn't seem to be affecting my concentration which is good, as I still need to be able to work (I'm a freelance writer).

I did the salt flush this morning and not a lot came out, I guess I need the laxative tea. What's a quart BTW - is that a quarter of a pint?

Is anybody else hungry on this fast?

I couldnt find organic cayenne, so i bought non-organic...does anyone know if this is ok? My hands are actually warm for the first time in months...i have very poor circulation usually

The laxative tea i got is senna and camomile...again im kind of just guessing. Whats a salt water flush? Water with a bit of sea salt?

Good luck everyone:D

If you are hungry you may need to consume more lemonade. I try to consume about 2 quarts or 1 liter a day.

Generally by the 3rd day you will lose any feeling of hunger. It usually takes me a day or two to stop feelling hungry. It is more of a head hunger not really a physical hunger.

I love this fast as I can still work and exercise and go about my day as usual. It also frees up my time to concentrate on other things in life than food. I hope you have a positive experience too. I am gearing up to do another one soon. So maybe I will be joining you all! I so need it!:)

I am sure the non-organic kind is fine. I use non-organic limes and lemons when I can't find the organic kind. Obviously organic is better as you are trying to rid your body of toxins but I don't get too crazy over all that. You can read more about the salt water flush on the website below. Many (including myself don't do the SWF) as it can be kindof harsh on your system. I generally just do the laxative tea.

Hi all,

I am starting the MC tommorow. It will be my second one. I joined the 30 day 100% raw challenge this month, but fell of yesterday. I'm running very low this week on money and decided that it will be a lot less expensive and more beneficial if I did the mc as opposed to breaking the raw food diet- I felt WONDERFUL the first time I did this and was able to do 21 days. Let's see how this time goes. Oh, does anyone know if you can use sweetners like agave nectar or stevia instead of the maple syrup?
Thanks:)

Today is day one for me. I just juiced 5 days worth of lemons/limes and I am ready to go - I think! It takes me a few days to mentally get back into fasting and the first few days is always the toughest. I plan on doing this for 10 days and then 2 days of transitioning with O.J. and then back to raw foods. I do really need this as I am feeling pretty bloated lately.

Anyway welcome Charika and good luck on your fast - it will be good to have some company!:)

Hey all, I' m joining late, but today is day 4 for my master cleanse! My goal is to make it the 10 days and see where that takes me..I'll keep going if I'm up to it. This is my first real fast, and it's going really well! I'm averaging about 10 glasses of the lemonade per day, drinking the lax tea every night and getting down as much of the SWF as possible...each day I get more and more down! Today I woke up three times this morning feeling yucky and eliminating some pretty funky stuff so this cleanse must be working!!
I've been slightly hungry off and on so far but I make sure to drink as much lemonade as it takes to ward off the hunger. I find that my hunger isn't intense at all and even slightly pleasant! I also get a little hungrier at night, so I slowly sip the lemonade until around 9:30 when I make the tea and the warmth of that seems to work too. I also drink 1 cup of mint tea per day when I feel like it!

Wishing everyone luck on their cleanse!!
-Jen

Thanks morn. i didn't get to buy my lemons yesterday. I was stuck in the house taking care of things. My husband brought me some kale and oranges two days ago. So I will go out later and buy my lemons to start tommorow. Today, I will just do green smoothies and green juice. Hope today goes well for all of you on the mc:)

Hi I'm also joining in late, I just started the master cleanse today and i really hope I will make it 10 days, the longest I've fasted before was like 5 days so I'm going to try really hard for this one.
The mix tastes great to me so that should help a little.

Well today is day 2 and I had a busy day at work so it was easy to keep my mind off of food. The only real time I thought about it was when I could smell food that others were heating up and of course when I was hungry. But overall a good day. However, I am freezing from my metabolism slowing down! It doesn't help that it has been around 20 degrees lately here in Michigan. It is much harder to fast in the winter than it was in the summer.

I am so glad to have you guys with me. I thought I would be all alone.

Good luck on your fasts!:)

if you like limes, you should buy those too. I almost like the lime flavour better than lemons. I find it is nice to mix it up a bit and rotate between the two.:)

Hey Morn, I plan on doing this until my tongue returns to pink. HOpefully it wont be 40 days!!

I realized as soon as I started driving to work I didn't bring enough of the drink to last me til one. So I bought a bottle of water and I'm hoping I won't starve too much. Only 2 hours to go. I'll be fine. Day Two...woohooo!

I usually make 2 liters for the day and drink about half of it. I think it is more of a mental thing because I get tired of drinking the lemonade as I did this fast for the whole month of july and I think I got burned out a bit from drinking the same thing over and over again. Plus this is the fifth time I have done a mastercleanse so I am not new to it.

Today is day 3 and again my main complaint is that I am so cold. I am walking around at work and others are saying they are too hot and I am like an icecube (cold nose), cold hands, etc. and the worst part is I am dressed warm but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also I have drank the laxative tea and nothing as of yet. It has made my stomach hurt like heck but not produced anything. I woke up in the middle of the night with a cramping stomach and could barely sleep.

I am excited however, cause I got home from work and my new Needak rebounder and Cardiolates DVD is finally here! So I put it together and after this post I will be doing my first rebounding exercises on it. I guess the tape is 45 minutes so that will be my exercise for today.

I can't believe how high I can jump on this thing! It is the bomb!:D

Well best to all of you - Again I really enjoy having the company of you all!:)

It's the end of my second day today and I've been drinking tons of the lemonade.
Yesterday I could hardly sleep and today I felt jittery all day until i took a really long hot bath tonight and i think that was a really bad idea, because after, while I was showering i started feeling super dizzy and almost fainty, so I rushed out of the bathroom and layed in bed for a while. It was kind of scary and I won't be taking any more baths while doing the fast.

I'm excited for the days to pass and finally make it to the 10th day.

Taking hot baths during a fast draws toxins to the skin. You probably just experienced a rush of toxins surfacing and your blood pressure/circulation were also impacted. Try to use epsom salts or dead sea bath salts, even lavender oil with baking soda in your bath water next time to lesson the impact. I recommend not staying in the bath tub more than 30 minutes & don't make the water super hot in the first few days of your cleanse, as a hot bath generally creates a sauna effect which is what you also perhaps experienced.

I personally can't survive without a warm bath during the master cleanse. I take a bath once or twice a day while fasting. With the drop in body temperature I'm freezing and a hot or very warm bath in epsom salts is the only thing that warms me up.

Best wishes.

Good morning everyone! I'm beginning day 6 whilst sipping on my salt water...I've got half of it down so far. I'm so amazed that I've made it this far and been so successful. Stuff is still coming out of me every morning with just the nightly lax tea! However, my skin is pretty broken out and I don't think I've really lost any weight. It might be water retention though because I don't really drink a lot of water (I'm constantly drinking the lemonade it feels like)...I'm also only 5'0 tall so reducing my calorie intake from about 1500 to probably like 1100 wouldn't really have the same effect as someone else. I didn't just go into this for the weight loss though, more for resting my digestive system, but I wouldn't mind losing like 5 pounds.
Anyway! Happy lemonade drinking to you all! I need to get to the store today to restock stuff at some point....now back to my salt water.. yechhh...

I didn't have a successful day yesterday, but reading the success of all of you is really motivating and inspiring me. I am EXTREMELY behind everyone, so today will be officially day 1 for me. I love the lemonade drink. I have to go out and buy the tea- which may be a challenge since there are no HFS's by me...but hopefully I can get it. I didn't so the SWF this morning. I have had serious contemplations about stopping this fast as I am freezing and I am not experiencing a whole lot in the cleansing arena. Also I am late in getting my monthly and wondering if fasting has anything to do with that. However, I will give it some more thought before I throw in the towel. I do feel fine other than being freezing. I didn’t consume much lemonade today at all probably less than one glass. I guess I just don’t feel like I need it for whatever reason. Consumed:

Mastercleanse lemonade
water

Thank you so much for the advice, I'll really take it into account since I'm freezing as well.

I'm usually a cold person and it is like 20 degrees outside but it's 74 in my dorm room and even wearing all fleece clothing and wrapped in a blanket my skin is like ice! I took a hot shower and that seemed to help...
I've read that day 7 is typically a detox day for most people, but so far so good! I even did some yoga this morning! How's it going with everyone else?

I just read through all these posts and feel so good. Wow, many of you are doing this or have done it. I can't possibly remember what all was said but I will add my 2 cents worth and hope it might help someone. I did the MC last year for about 32 or more days -can't remember exactly. I lost 22 lbs. I was seldom hungry. I used a straw in the morning to drink the SWF and I used sea salt - I'm sure this helped me get it down. Oh yes. I also remember rubbing my tongue with a cut lemon before drinking the SWF and this seemed to make it easier too. I also use the straw for the lemonade as I don't want my teeth hurting. I am hoping to do this for 40 days and then I will go 100% RAW. :D I will try that advice to lie on my right side for 30 minutes in the hope that the SWF will go through faster! Thank you all for sharing.

You're very welcome applegirl. I hope the bath routine works next time. It really does help me stay warm! When I socialize and eat out with others during the cleanse I just bring my peppermint tea bags and ask for hot water. It really helps. You feel like you're ingesting something. Also it's nobody's business what you're doing for yourself in terms of having to make excuses, although I know what you mean. I used to as well and then I began gently explaining that I was not hungry. People can sometimes have a difficult time when you're eating for some reason. I believe it triggers something in them. I've decided to do the tea in the morning and evening and exclude the SWF this time around.
ISLEGIRL: i too did this fast last year for about 20 days and lost about 15 pounds i think. And I gained it all back and more because I too was so FOOLISH and went back to my old eating ways. I hope this time will be different as i am planning to go back to 100% raw after reducing the amounts of raw fats I was consuming before this fast. I'm not sure how long yet I will do this- anywhere from 10 days to 30? Ok, let me go make my lemonade now :-)

I know what you mean about the cramps - it is frustrating. :( The last few days I haven't done it due to it keeping me up all night and I have to have rest on the days I have to work. I however, am not too concerned with buildup since I did this fast last Month and 3 times before that and I eat a raw foods diet daily so I wonder if I am pretty clean. I am a little concerned though that I haven't had any kind of B.M. since I have started.

As you continue the cramping will subside. The more backed up debris, impacted waste and mucus you have in your intestines, generally the rougher the cramping. I usually have bad pains the first couple of days and then it starts to lessen. Congratulations on being where you are and for surviving cooking for your family. This is awesome.

I have been lurking on the fasting board and journaling my current MC separately. I'm on my 27th day of a 40 day cleanse and I feel absolutely wonderful. This is my 4th MC and each one has been different, building on the other. My current cleanse is producing an even deeper cleanse I believe due to the fact that I've been raw for a few months. My body has been able to bypass the hardcore dumping of waste and get right to the deeper cleansing on a cellular level. My emotional detox had been a roller coaster from about Days 14 to 25. I let go of a lot of memories and emotions! And it was rough, not an easy process. I spent a lot of time crying, but since I knew what was happening, it made it bearable.

This is what I noted in my journal on Day 23...

Day 23

"It's my 23rd day on this cleanse and I just released another flood of emotions regarding past relationships. It just hit me like a flash tidal wave. I was sitting around minding my own business and them wham, I started reminiscing and memories started flooding my brain and then before you know it I'm crying elephant tears, deep from my diaphram. Seeing pictures flash before me of all the crappy times and some of the good times. All the while I knew I was experiencing another bout of emotional detox.

A friend of mine who is an experienced faster and nutritionist explained to me that when you get into a deep cleanse, the gunk from your cells is breaking up, along the lining. The stuck like glue gunk. This stuff I'll call it, that is being released, contains emotional energy and/or memories. When you fast and clear this physical debris from your cells and tissues, it also unleashes the emotions which are attached to it. Which are usually pretty hardcore emotions that you've either repressed or didn't express in the moment, like anger or sadness or emotional pain. It's really an interesting process. Not so much fun to go through it, but because I knew what was happening I just let the tears flow and rolled with it. It lasted maybe 30 minutes, I got a very good cry and release out of it. And afterwards I felt just fine. I felt like I just flushed my heart and released about 5 million psychic chords to past boyfriends and other close relationships. I'm sure if someone was observing me unaware, they would think my elevator perhaps doesn't go all the way up to the top. LOL. hahaaa! Witnessing me going from one extreme emotion to another in a short period of time. My heart is even more open, I can feel it. Fasting is so cool in how you begin to really heal on a deep level the longer you do this. I say if this comes up for you also, the extreme emotion release? Just let it flow and let it go."

On this 27th day of my cleanse I just feel like CLEANING & REBUILDING EVERYTHING. I believe my external world is mirroring what my beautiful cells are doing - cleansing and rebuilding. Yesterday I had a huge amount of energy and cleaned every inch of my bedroom and kitchen. I mean deep cleaning, throwing out garbage, recycling, going through all of my papers, moving furniture. LOL. All in one day. The MC rocks and I love this stage in the process when you're blessed with an abundance of energy. Thank you God!

Have a pleasant weekend everyone and happy cleansing!

Love,

Crystal

I'm really afraid of gaining any weight back so I too will try to stick with raw as much as possible.

If you stay raw and eat a good amount of greens, juices and raw foods you should be fine. I've maintained a 50 lb weight loss for 10 months. I didn't gain an ounce back. The people who are talking about gaining a lot or all of the weight they lost post cleanse are usually SAD eaters or those who simply resume their unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits. The MC is not a weight loss program. It's a cleanse and designed to prepare you for healthier eating and a healthier lifestyle. If you focus on the cleansing aspect and not the weight loss, it will help you attain your goals in my opinion. You will lose weight naturally and inevitably with fasting and eating well.

Generally it's very helpful to eat digestion friendly foods (we know what these are ;) ) or juices with a ratio of 1:4. In other words, 1 day of juicing for every 4 days of fasting. For example, I'm on a 40 day cleanse and when I'm done, I plan to drink green juices and green smoothies for 10 days post cleanse along with taking my probiotics, wheatgrass shots and spirulina. That's my plan. If you're fasting for 10 days, you want to juice for 2-3 days. Break the cleanse by drinking fresh squeezed orange juice for 2 days and then do your green or fruit juicing for 2-3 days. Then resume your normal diet whatever that is, but still keep it light. You may already know this, but I'll share it anyway...this breaking cleanse process is designed to get your digestive system prepared for solid food and to reintroduce healthy flora (probiotics) to your large intestine which have been flushed out with the SWF. The breaking fast phase is the most critical of the fasting process. You could eat food probably and not experience any immediate problems, but in 1-2 weeks that's when the gas, constipation and other digestive ailments could surprise you. Another reason it's good to just follow the process to a T. If you can do the MC, you have the same willpower to break the cleanse.

It helps to have a plan before you end the cleanse and it makes it much easier to stick with it after you're done. Don't be afraid, fear will sabotage your efforts. You should be instead extremely proud of yourself for even fasting for ONE day. The vast majority of folks couldn't even fathom doing what you're doing. Take it one day at a time and trust yourself and listen to your body. You'll be fine. Even if you gain a little water weight back, you've still achieved something amazing...regaining your health.

Peace,
Crystal

Day 8 for me!! I felt a little woozy in the head this morning when I first got up.
I've been sleeping in more the past two days, because I've been tired. I also couldn't get down as much of the SWF this morning...it was making me nauseous which hasn't happened at all since day 1.
Overall, I feel pretty good! No huge burst of energy but no terrible detox either. It's been a really nice break on my tummy not eating solid food and I love the lemonade :)

Crystalzgoneraw- that's amazing! Good for you for enduring that emotional detox and going on the MC for so long! Thank you for all your advice Crystal, it's amazing that you are doing this for 40 days. This is my first MC but i've done 5 day water fasts before, I find that drinking the lemonade helps a LOT, so I'm trying it for 10 days now and would like to do 21 days at some point this year.

I am partly doing it for weight loss but also for the health benefits, I would love to reach that state when your cells start cleansing but I think that happens in longer periods. I've found that I have more energy than usual and am going to bed later and waking up earlier, I feel good overall just a little hungry but no cravings so far.

I plan to break off the fast with oj and then juicing. I'll try to stick close to raw and 100 % vegan after that
I took a bath this morning after the gym and it was a lot better than the other day, I think it helped that i washed my hair sitting down instead of standing up from the hot water and washing it in the shower, I think that's what made me dizzy the other day.

Well, I wish everybody good luck and be strong :)

Im2Fruity, I'm glad you're feeling good overall. Good luck on the rest of the cleanse. Thank you for your kind words. The emotional detox was a bit difficult but I feel great now, especially knowing I released a lot of garbage. The MC is much cheaper than therapy, LOL. It actually becomes easier the longer you stay with it as your digestive system completely shuts down after the 5th or 6th day, or at least mine does. The difficulty comes with the emotional craving stage which varies for everyone. Yesterday I began craving SAD pizza which tells me it's residual stuff coming out of my tissues. It's a wild ride. Glad you've got your plan and good luck with the rest of your cleanse.

You can experience the same thing with cellular healing on a raw food diet post cleanse, it just may take a bit longer, but not always depends on your individual body/systems and the level of toxicity. Best wishes as you continue on!

Morn, I hope the SWF or the tea will help you tonight.

Applegirl, It looks like crystal answered your question to me perfectly:)

Dread Head Vegan: Why not just tell them you're on the master cleanse? Or you're on a cleansing fast? Some situations might not require you to say much except that maybe you're not hungry- which will probably be true if you're drinking your lemonade. But there may be other situations where some form of an explanation as to why you're not eating anything at all might be desired? I'd personally just tell the truth. I wouldn't even get into major details as to what the mc is unless they asked and were interested...

Crystal, Congradulations on your success. I'm sure you are an inspiration to us all. You seem to be very knowledgable regarding the mc. I've heard it said that the SWF can interfere with weightloss because of the obvious, the salt and water retention?? Is this true? it doesn't seem to be the case with you.

I've also heard it said that it's ok to ommit the swf and just do the laxative tea morning and night. Is this ok? The SWF made me extremely nautious, shaky, and just very ill feeling the last time I did the mc. Will I experience the same results doing tea both morning and night as with the SWF?

And lastly did you have any more weight to lose after those 50 pounds? I understand that if you stick with a raw diet after the mc, you won't gain any weight back. But will you continue to lose weight? I'm concerned that I won't be able to continue to lose after this fast- although not gaining any weight back is awesome. But I don't want to be stuck at a weight that will still have me overweight. Anyway, I'm just curious. Sorry for all the questions lol.. Thanks:)

Hi all,

I've only recently looked into the master cleanse, though I've heard many people refer to it many times. I got all of the information and actually started it one day last week, then my juicer broke. I've ordered another, but I can't wait for it to get here to start - so I got a cheap citrus juicer to use until it comes in. I'm starting either tomorrow or Monday - I haven't fully decided yet.

I've gone through this entire thread, and I saw where someone asked if you could use agave instead of maple syrup, but then she said she found the answer elsewhere, so I didn't see any replies to it. I was wondering the same myself - I prefer agave, but if it won't work properly, I'll use the maple syrup.

You all sound like you're doing great - keep up the good work!

Thank you Charika.

I've never had any problems with the SWF. I just view it as part of the process and as flushing the toxins that are being built up daily in the bloodstream. I believe the more toxic you are, the more challenging it may be at first to consume the SWF. And if you're significantly dehydrated, I believe your tissues absorb some of the sodium which can make you feel bloated. It's important to drink at least half your body weight in water daily while cleansing. For example if you weigh 140, you want to get in 70 ounces of water. According to Stanley Burroughs and a number of other authors on the subject, you can drink the senna tea in the a.m. and p.m. and can omit the SWF if necessary. Personally I think you get a better cleanse when you do the SWF which is more like an internal enema. Just my opinion.

Also the SWF if measured properly 32 oz of water with 2 teaspoons of uniodized sea salt exactly mirrors the consistency of blood, so this is why it does not filter through the kidneys. It just flushes through your colon and doesn't cause you to gain weight. If you're feeling bloated and heavy, it's more than likely the toxins which are coming to the surface. Again this is why I think the SWF is important.

I didn't need to lose any more weight. I've been an athlete most of my life. Broke my leg a couple of years ago, gained 45 pounds in my long recovery attributable to eating lots of home delivery vegetarian take-out, junk food and taking prescription pain medication. I'm back to my regular weight but still have some strength to build in my body. I'm focusing on rebuilding at this point. As I stated above somewhere, I wouldn't concern myself with the weight loss even if you have weight to lose. Focus on the cleansing which is taking place in your body. The weight loss will follow. You wouldn't build a house on a shaky foundation, so think of as you're creating a solid foundation of healing yourself which extends beyond (fat) weight loss. Your liver and your colon have a great deal to do with metabolism and it doesn't matter what you do to lose weight if these organs are toxic. A healed liver, colon & digestive system coupled with a good amount of physical exertion = almost immediate weight loss. Concentrate on ridding yourself of toxins in your body and consider doing a liver cleanse a couple of weeks after your start eating again. There is some information about how to do a liver flush on this forum. Yes, the MC heals the liver, but it doesn't clear gallstones.

Are you planning to eat raw foods afterwards? If so, you will continue your detox naturally with foods. Especially if you add green drinks and smoothies to your routine. Forget about a timeframe and give yourself a lot of flexibility and don't put too much pressure on yourself.

A great book to get in addition to the original text is Tom Woloshyn's The Complete Master Cleanse. I highly recommend this book, it answers a lot of ambiguous questions that aren't covered in Stanley Burroughs' book. Tom Woloshyn is a protege of Stanley Burroughs and has completed 1000 cleanses I believe. All of the information I've gathered has been from research, reading these books and having completed 4 lengthy cleanses.

Best wishes,

Crystal

Day 7 and I woke up with a terrible headache. I am going to try to squeeze in some exercise before small group today and then I have a tone of laundry to do. I am a little concerned that I still haven't gotten my monthly visitor. I think my fasting must have thrown off something. And for any of you wondering I took a pregnancy test and it was negative.

Chrystal - do you know if this fast some how effects your cycle? Oh and I think I have been having some of that emotional detox too. My husband has noticed I have been some what of a crazy woman. I guess he has been the brunt of a few angry episodes.

I woke up today (Day 9) feeling great! Very peaceful and happy.

I went to the grocery store this afternoon, because I ran out of lemons this morning and I needed to stock the fridge for the upcoming week. I bought new cayenne pepper as well, because I was noticing that my lemonade was lacking a "kick" and wanted more potent stuff

It was actually really fun grocery shopping!! I missed looking at all the produce. I bought a ton of oranges to juice, because that's primarily what I'm going to break my fast with on Tuesday. I also bought a few other fruits to juice and just a few veggies to munch on once my tummy is up to it.

The master cleanse calls for vegetable broth during the fast-breaking..do you guys think substituting that for plain miso broth would be ok?

I totally love this cleanse and feel like I could physically go on for a lot longer, but mentally I'm getting ready to end it. I was daydreaming about food yesterday! It'll be an interesting challenge to live in my cramped dorm-room with all this food knowing that I'm on Lemonade for another day and a half...but I know I can do it. I'm not tempted at all right now, but it's pretty to look at! :D

Dear Morn:

Ha! I know what you mean about the angry episodes. I had a big fight with my boyfriend last Friday night over something silly. I was so mad! I believe it was my fluctuating hormones and the stuff coming from my tissues. We ended up laughing about it, but we both got into it for a moment there. Then I remembered I was fasting. I'm trying to lay low and have told friends and my boyfriend I would check in with them again in a week. I feel like a storm is coming and I need to be alone! LOL.

My period skips a cycle everytime I finish a cleanse. For example, I've always been extremely regular, every 28 days. If I'm menstrating on the new moon it consistently arrives around the new moon every month. But after the MC it will skip a full 2 weeks to the full moon. I did get my cycle a couple of weeks into this current MC and it was wonderful! So light, PMS free, cramp free and it only lasted 2 days!!! I've never had a cycle that short! I really hope this continues - woo hoo. But I'm expecting my period to skip a cycle again when I finish this cleanse, but we'll see. The last time I did the MC, I too missed a period and freaked out thinking I was pregnant because I NEVER miss my period. I took 5 pregnancy tests which all came back negative, lol, but I didn't trust them. On the day I was scheduled to see my OB Gyn to get a blood test it came!! My intuition is telling me like every other system and organ that heals during the MC, the female reproductive system gets a good healing too and everything is overhauled! lol. :) I'm sure your cycle will come.

Hope your headache is better and have a great rest of the day.

Crystal

Oh wow, I know the feeling.

It is fun going produce shopping after a cleanse. Everything looks so bright and shiny! Like veggie candy, lol.

I think the miso broth would be okay personally, but feel it for yourself. Listen to your body. If your stomach grumbles a lot when it's going down, it means it's not too happy with your choice. If it goes down smoothly with no problems, your stomach is a happy camper.

Congrats on being where you are in your cleanse and have fun breaking it.

Edit: Papaya, apple cider vinegar shots and fresh lemon juice shots are also great to have when you're eating solid food again. The ACV and lemon juice help absorb some of the stomach acid that may get overproduced on account of not eating for awhile. They really help with digestion. I eat a lot of papaya post cleanse - it's a great tasting, easy on the digestive system food. Not sure it's in season right now though???

Thank you Crystal so much for all the info. I think I will definitly look into that book, especially for the next time that I do the MC. I definitly want to take into consideration all you've said- especially that in regards to weightloss. I can get so caught up with time frames and wanting to lose this amount of weight in this amount of time, etc... I really need to relax and enjoy the process of cleansing, healing and learning to make eating raw/ fasting a lifestyle thing I do for health, etc... and not weightloss. I will want to add regular exercise-whether fasting or just eating raw to assist with the weight loss though and for the overall benefits that exercise provides. And from what you've shared about the water intake I definitly need to up my water intake. Oh, I did do the SWF this morning and to my surprise I felt a lot better with it this time than I did the first time I did this fast. I didn't feel the least bit sick. The funny thing is I had already been to the bathroom before I drank the swf like three times- I'm guessing from the laxative tea I drank last night. By the time I did the SWF, I think my body was done. And I never went back to the bathroom..LOL..Well, I have to go cook for my family now and I'm so glad I decided to come here first- I needed the inspiration/ motivation that everyone here provides for me, before stepping into that scary kitchen..lol.. Thanks to all of you:)

I'm not a huge fan of papaya, but I do keep digestive enzymes on hand because of my slow digestion. I'll be sure to take them if I need them. I usually take them before or after a huge salad or strangely combined meal.

I'm also going to take probiotics with lemon-water after the cleanse. They keep me regular but I'm terrible at being consistent with taking them.

I understand about the papaya. I've found in my personal experience coming off a cleanse that these are good foods to stimulate digestion also:

Cabbage
Sauerkraut
Grapes
Cherries
Soaked Prunes

Always listen to your own body of course. I'm sure you'll be fine with your plan.

Chrystal - thanks for your reply. We are all so fortunate to have you with us while we are fasting. You are a source of wisdom. It makes sense what you say about your system getting thrown off its course. I did this fast last month and that is probably why it threw it off this month.

On another note I tried to do a SWF today. I just couldn't get that salt water down. I slowly slipped a glass of it with a straw and probably did about 8 oz of the quart. Every time I drank I wanted to gag or throw up. I really admire all of you who can perserve and do that. Anyway, 8 oz didn't do anything so I guess I will have to go back to the laxative tea. But at least I can say now that I atleast tried it.:(

It's day 7 for me today and I can't believe I've made it this far, I feel really proud of myself but I just want to make it to day 10. I still feel hungry occasionally, specially when my husband is eating vegan burritos next to me and such.

It's Day 7 for me and I am amazed with how much I am still eliminating. I was on the cleanse before and I don't remember seeing the same amount releasing from my body. I think it may be the fact that I have been 100% and sometimes 99% raw since March 2006. I didn't have as much emotional detoxing this time. I have been very cold. It's been difficult keeping warm. I look forward to drinking the Smooth Move tea every night just so I can warm up :) .

Day 10!!!!!!!!! Wooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited! It's almost over and I DID IT!!!!

Alright..:o that's enough gushing. Hehe! I woke up pretty early this morning with baaaad cramps from the lax tea...I actually felt a little pain in my stomach too, but that went away after I drank some water. I might drink one more cup of tea tonight just to get a little more out...I can't believe that after 9 days of no solid food, there's still stuff in me! I've had a relatively healthy diet for years now and I'm only 22. It's just amazing. My tongue is still slightly coated but it's getting pinker. Next time I do the MC I hope to wait to break it until my tongue clears.

Tomorrow is Orange Juice Day, although I might juice some pineapple later on if all goes well in the tummy department. We'll see. Then I'm excited to move on to my miso soup and fruits. I've got a box of clementines and some soft persimmons waiting for me! I can't wait to dig into my purple cauliflower that I found too, but that will probably have to wait a few more days.

This thread has been a big help in keeping me motivated and distracted! I'll keep you all updated in how things go with me!

The good news is that I know where I went wrong and what my mistake was that led me to slip. So I know what to avoid and work on next time around. It's always hard for me to get that momentum (is that the right wod?) going again after I fall off a fast or fall off of being 100% raw for a good amount of days. I've been wanting to try the master cleanse for a long time. I see it as a step to reduce cravings and flush toxins before going to a more raw-foods lifestyle. (I've also added quite a few pounds over the holiday) But I'm in school and I need to focus, and I've never had the dedication to fast before (I can't see going without food for more than a couple hours!)
For those of you who have tried it, is it really so simple to just drink all day?

Charika, you did great! Some people couldn't even dream of accomplishing that much :) Try try again!

So today didn't exactly work out the way I had planned. I accidently sabbotaged my orange juice, because I had never juiced oranges with a real juicer before, only a manual one, and I thought I could just juice the whole oranges....It turns out juicing an entire batch of organic oranges just creates a very bitter and thick mess....I tried to water it down and added a little stevia but I just couldnt drink it! I waited until 12:30 and then was really hungry, so I decided to try some watermelon out. I ate it ridiculously slow..letting it practically melt in my mouth. No tummy ache! A little while later, I ate a clementine..reallllly slow......and I was fine! I ate a little fruit throughout the day and felt good until around 6 when I attempted some chopped cauliflower and tahini...I bloated right out! No pain or anything, it just felt like I couldn't digest it..so I took some digestive enzymes and sipped water for the rest of the night...Lesson learned

I'm not going to beat myself up though. I really tried, AND I made it the whole 10 days on the lemonade, which I'm very proud of. :)

Eloet,
If you are planning to Do the Master Cleanse, It's very important to read the book first(The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs). The first few days are the roughest as you adjust to not eating solid food. It's mostly due to your emotional craving for food and some detoxing. I would also suggest starting on a weekend so that you have a few days to adjust:) .

Tuliza

For some, Day 8 is when you are detoxing the most. This is why you may be craving food. Don't give up. The cravings will go away when you eliminate.
You can do it.

Applegirl,
Dizziness might be due to a drop in blood pressure. Lowered blood pressure is common on the MC. Make sure that you are getting the proper amount of lemonade in each day. 6-12 10oz glasses. If you are feeling dizziness, drink more lemonade.

It's Day 31 for me and I'm almost done with my cleanse. Only 9 days to go! This last stretch is the hardest...my cravings have been intense! I haven't eaten meat for 20 years but I'm craving hamburgers, cheeseburgers and chicken!! I know it's the toxins that are being released from my cells. My goodness who would've thought I would have 20 years worth of toxic residue (from eating meat) still in my body? WOW. I love the master cleanse for this reason...you really get a deep cleanse the longer you stay with it.

My moods have been fluctuating as well and honestly I'll be glad when next week rolls around and I can have my orange juice!

My hardrive crashed this week and I'm actually using a friend's computer. I probably won't be able to update as often until my laptop is repaired. But I will share when I reach 40 days at some point.

Happy cleansing All!

Love,

Crystal

WE are proud of you too! Congrats!:D

Day 10 and I came down 6 pounds in 10 days. Not exactly the results I was looking for but hopefully if I am careful I will keep off the weight I lost. I am also on my monthly so I figure I am up a bit from that. Tomorrow and Friday I will drink the rest of my lemonade and some oj I will juice. Well I need to get going on to my exercise! It was really nice having the company on this thread. Good luck to everyone else still cleansing!

Chrystal - hang in there you are now in the home stretch. You can do it!:)

Yay!! I'm able to log onto the computer today again as I'm borrowing a friend's laptop. I'm on my 32nd day of the master cleanse. woo-hoo! My food cravings are really starting to surface as I mentioned yesterday, but they're not as exteme today. I'm only dreaming of avocados and salads right now, which is encouraging. No more thoughts of cheeseburgers...hahaha. I'm trying to stay out of the kitchen and away from "food" influences as much as possible. I feel great however and very proud of myself. I am healing on a profound level which I can completely feel in my knee which is why I decided to cleanse again. My knee was beginning to get stiff again and was bothering me. Now I'm walking easily and effortlessly! My body is smiling from head to toe. Happy Cleansing everyone.

Love,
Crystal

Day 11 - I drank my lemonade earlier today (just to finish it off) and I just broke my fast about a 1/2 hour ago. After work today I went shopping and stocked up and got some carrots, apples, bananas, a pineapple, broccoli, celery, cucumber, tomatoes, avacado, and red grapes. It is good to see a refrigerator full of fresh produce again. Good luck to all of you who are continuing on in February!:)

Congratulations Morn on a successful cleanse! It must've felt glorious shopping for all of those goodies. ;) :D Thanks for the well wishes. I'm feeling much better today...only have a few more days to go.

Take care,
