Okay here we go...it's a new year. Who's up to start the new year with a good feast/fast.

I'm not putting a number on this feast/fast. I will see what my body tells me. I might start Monday the 31st.

How is everyone doing?

I'm actually tentatively up to this....it's hard for me to do feasts/fasts in my family, because I'm already kind of "worried about" due to my rawness. And despite my mother's veganism and partion rawness, she still thinks it's kind of "extreme" for me to do a feast, no matter how nutritionally sound. But I'll commit to fasting half of the day, every day, at the least. I'll do juice for breakfast, then eat a light lunch etc.

Happy new year! I'm SO excited for what this one will bring!

OOOOOhhhh!! I'd love to join! Unfortunately, (or fortunately!) I just got a HUMONGOUS amount of fresh produce, that's dying to be eating (most of it's not "juice" produce)... but if you guys are still going the second week in January, I'd love to join up then!

Yay! I have someone to talk to again! I'm on day 5 of my juice fast and lost my fasting buddies a couple of days ago. I decided not to wait until the first of the year (my usual MO) so I started the day after Christmas. I'm feeling pretty good, but still have moments of no energy. I've been mostly raw since the first of November but had some moments around the holidays. So, I thought what better way to ring in the New Year than by fasting. The longest fast I've done until now was 3 days. I had originally said I wanted to do 21 days but I am not holding that as a hard and fast rule.

My juice for today is:

Grapefruit
Carrot
Apple/Spinach/Lemon

Have a GREAT DAY!

I found it interesting... I am on day 5 of my fast and woke up this morning with that "I could do this forever" feeling. I am having people over this afternoon and yes, there will be food involved (I'm starting to wonder if there ever ISN'T food involved). As I was making coffee for those who drink it (I gave it up 2 months ago), I love the smell of coffee ... um, or should I say lovED the smell of coffee. The smell of it made my stomach turn. Hmmm...

Oh, and NO PMS symptoms this month, just ... surprise  !

Have a GREAT DAY!

I made it through the pot luck at my house and cooked two cooked dishes and didn't once WANT to eat any of it. I am thrilled. Of course my DH had to show one of the guys what weird green juice we were drinking and get him to try it - LOL. He loved it! And asked how to make it, hmmmm .... maybe I'll introduce them to green smoothies next.

I'll check in tomorrow.

I would like to join - at least for the 15 days if not all 30. I don't know if i will be able to do it but i want to try! My juicer is ready and i am going to shop tomorrow for celery cucumbers and carrots. I am not sure how much of what to buy and what juices are the base :)

How's it going? Has anyone actually started their fast/feast already or are you starting on the 1st? I'm very surprised I am on day 6 of my juice fast and feel really good. I haven't felt even a little hungry since day 3 and my energy is steadily improving. I just got done juicing for the day and I will be having:

20 oz. carrot juice
32 oz. apple/collard green/lemon juice
32 oz. grapefruit juice

I'm sure these juices will change over time but it's working for now. And I have a ton of grapefruit from my in laws that I need to use up.

Have a great day and Happy New Year!

Yay! Glad you're still doing well, Heather! It's so neat how juice fasting helped me to turn less to food for my emotions and the dig a little deeper for cleaning... Now, here I am and I had a small munchie attack when I couldn't resist the taco shells in my dehydrator...

I'm very seriously thinking about juicing a full day every week. Probably Sundays...

I just don't know how you can do the 6 days and how so many people can manage to do this for longer!... Must be sooooo cleansing. :D

Hey MiaTay! I miss chattin' with you and Ms. Eva..... so glad to hear your fast is still going strong. I'm going to talk with dh tonight about a cleansing fast starting tomorrow ~ I need his support and he needs mine, we always cave without it. :o Hoping to be on here again tomorrow with you. I just LOVE how I feel when I'm fasting!!

Hey! I've missed you guys! Yes, I'm still going strong (I can't believe it myself).

Eva - I've long considered doing a juice fast once a week and this year maybe it will become reality. I think ... wow, giving your body a full day each week to rest and clean house, that would be awsome.

Justine - I look forward to seeing you here tomorrow :) . Is your DH raw with you? Mine is working in that direction and he will eat whatever I prepare without complaint - I am blessed.

I'll check back in here later.

Hey guys - what's a feast/fast?
cheers!

Now for me some days are feast days where I get in a gallon of juices a day other days are fast days where I can hardly get a liter of juices down. So I call it a fast/feast or feast/fast. That's me personally. I don't know about others.

Also some people will be juice feasting (a gallon of juices a day) and some will be doing various types of fasts and cleanses.

I will be starting Jan 1st. I went shopping and brought my green veggies and some fruit. I will juice first thing in the morning. Tonight before bed I will drink senna tea..joy..joy.

I think I'm gonna go get some senna tea also. I tried the salt water flush and it's um... a bit extreme  .

I'm actually feeling normal today (whatever that really may be) my energy level is good, I've got some housework done and laundry rolling. I'm looking forward to Wednesday when we will be back to our normal (there's that word again) schedule. DH off to work and my children and I homeschooling, I admit it ... I'm a rut person - I love a good routine. I love all of us being home together but I can't seem to get anything done. So, I decided to fast ... and I really got nothing else done, but at least my body is getting a good housecleaning!

Thanks, SparkleMichele -
I was thinking that maybe it meant if you were doing juice, you called it a feast, and if you just took water it was a fast.
Do most people do all juice for their fasting? The water fasts seem a bit scary to me. I feel like I would need a lot of time off work!
I did a mostly juice fast (excepting I had a simple salad Sat. night) all weekend to get rid of a cold - and it worked! I didn't feel hungry except after one time I blended a banana into some orange and carrot juice. I felt better with the fresh juice than with my normal green smoothies. But golly, it takes a lot of vegetables!!!
In any case, my mom was coming down with the same cold at the same time, and we both had the same symptoms last week of dry scratchy throats, and I did the juice and she continued to eat her regular veggie cooked food and she is MISERABLY sick and I'm not at all!! I'm a believer!

stick to wearing sunglasses and drinking my water for now

Hey everyone. This looks like an awesome thread. I am not starting my juice fast tomorrow but I will be here.

This time feels different to me, I feel so blessed to be in a position to be able to do this for my body. I just am so greatful.

Tonight also is going to be different, I am not going out and "getting drunk/wasted." I am going to stay in and really meditate and "be" with myself. You know a new start. People think I am nuts for not wanting to party, but all I can think of is that it isn't the right space or mindset to be in the day before I long fast.

My goal is to do a 60 day juice fast. So I really want to be present in my desicion to do this. Anyways happy new years everyone, ttyl.

I'm at the end of day 6 and feeling good.

I had dinner at my mom's house and we arrived (I had my juice in hand) and there was a place set for everyone but me :) . I thought how some less considerate people would have set me a plate and made me explain AGAIN that I am fasting, but my mom is GREAT. We sat and enjoyed the company and conversation around the table and the fact that I wasn't eating was only mentioned once.

The one thing that is consistent with this fast is that I am sleeping more. I have been ready for bed by 9:30 and usually not rolling out of bed until after 8:00 in the morning. So, with that I will say GOOD NIGHT and I'll see ya next year!

Good Morning ALL! And Happy New Year! I'm on DAY 7 of my fast, and cannot believe how good I am feeling. I have NO hunger pangs. I now have a normal energy level during the day except my body is ready for bed earlier. For those of you possibly reading this that have never fasted before I will share somethings that I have learned (my longest fast before this was 3 days).

1. First day was the hardest
2. I wanted to quit at day 3 (read back at the December posts, I even said so)
3. Day 4 I was not hungry at all and it has stayed that way, making this easy
4. I go through A LOT of produce so I must plan to succeed, if I run out of produce, I won't have anything to juice (I had to go to the store at 8:30 last night - again!)

Every day I've been juicing aproximately:

2.5 lb. carrots and some days a half a beet
3 lb. apples
6-8 handfuls of greens
1 lemon
6 grapefruit

Wow, when I look at the list typed out and realize that is what I have been feeding my body - no wonder I'm feeling good!

Have a great day!

Oh I would love to join! My question is can you incorporate some smoothies into this like to be able to have a banana or sometimes even greens because I find that I get more out of the greens when I just pulverize them oppose to juicing them. Same thing with melons I just blend them because there is no waste.

Either way I am super excited and cant wait til I get home from the gym to have my first juice of my fast/feast!

So glad you are joining us!

You can do whatever works for YOU, as we are all different. But I believe I have read somewhere that if you include fiber in a fast it won't allow your digestion process to rest and you would probably never get that "I'm not hungry" feeling. I would love if someone has more information on this, I believe it's the second time this has come up recently. I could be totally wrong.

IMHO juice LOTS the first three days and drink juice anytime you even THINK you are hungry. I was having about 8 oz. about every hour or 2. My hunger shut down day 4 and now my juice consumption is less (depends on the day).

Y'all can tell me to shut up at any time, I know I've been a posting maniac lately but I am so excited and cannot believe I have fasted 7 days! You have no idea what a big deal this is for me. I have struggled with food since I was 13 (almost 25 years), and the fact that I am seeing freedom in sight is ... well, I can't even describe it. I have some weight to loose but that really is secondary for me at this point, I want to FEEL good and have energy again.

Ok, off to juice with me.

Hey Justine - That's GREAT. So good to see you back here.. did your DH decide to join you? I'm jealous of your kombucha I think I'm going to have to take the plunge and get the stuff to make my own.

I'm doin' good today, I've had 16 oz. grapefruit juice and I'm about ready to go pour myself a glass of carrot. I have noticed the last couple of nights that even though I'm not hungry in the evenings I feel like eating. But I know I am working on food addictions and that is a bad snacky time. I am hoping to break through the wall with some of these food issues with this fast, and I am thankful that I am not craving SAD food but RAW food! Yes!

Have a great day, I'm sort of kickin' back and relaxing today.

This might be TMI but I plan on doing a fast for the month of january but I am not at all into the whole enema colonic thing. Will you still go to the bathroom at least for the first few days? Do you have to do any of that of can you just drink your juices and water for the month then ease back into food and be fine?

Hey Solong - I couldn't bare (lol) to do the enema either. So, I tried the the salt water flush, (drink 2 tsp. sea salt in 32 oz. warm water) but if you try this don't go far from the bathroom for the next hour and a half.

Justine - Thumbs up to you and your hubby. It is so cool that he is doing the 30 day challenge. My DH, is still juicing during the day and having a big salad for dinner (last I knew he had lost 14 lb.!). Tomorrow he goes back to work and we'll see how that goes (he normally goes out to lunch every day).

Stanley Burroughs (the Master Cleanse guy) says to do it once in the morning always on an empty stomach and if it doesn't work try tweeking the recipe a bit. You don't want to over-do this ~ just like anything else. Good luck! :D

I had to giggle a little when I read this question .... you'll see if you try it. More than once a day ... Thanks Justine for answering further (Justine told me about it). I think I'm good with every other day personally.

You'll just have to ignore me, I think I'm on a day 7 high.

32 oz. apple/collard greens
16 oz grapefruit

My mind is starting to play tricks on me though! It skips past all logic and tells me that I am being unhealthy by doing this, and all these negative thoughts about my weight keep coming up telling me I'll never again be beautiful or thin. It's so strange to have these thoughts running around loose in my head. Oh well, such goes mental detox, gotta get those bad thoughts out of there.

Sadly I ended up eating today. But sometimes we stumble when starting something tough so I'll just keep on trying till I get it right.

When you all start fasting is there anything you do for yourself to help keep yourself on track and your goals in mind when things get tough?

Don't be sad. Today is a brand new day! Isn't that cool how that works!

I did mentally prepare for almost a month. I picked the day, I planned, I told my family (I cook dinner for 6 every night), and I will say what I personally learned THE FIRST DAY IS THE HARDEST.

Remember this is a journey. Whenever you are ready there will be people here :)

Well today will be my first day of this fast that I keep my regular routine which today includes a trip to Sam's Club this morning, home for lunch, homeschool my two dear children, household chores, make dinner for my family of 6 (my parents eat with us most nights). Not too bad, but sort of wish I didn't have to make the hour and a half round trip to Sam's today but I'm down to only 3 bags of carrots for my juicing produce and if I had to do this on carrot juice alone, I wouldn't last very long - not my fav. So, hubby is gone to work with his half quart of carrot juice, 24 oz. apple/collard green juice, marinated broccoli and two bananas and I've juiced most of the juice for the day, I will do my grapefruit juice this afternoon. So the juice menu for today will be:

20 oz carrot juice
32 oz apple/collard green/lemon juice
However much grapefruit juice I decide to make later (unless I buy something fun at Sam's to juice for this evening ... hmmm)

I'll check in later.

The juice of the lovely ginger, 2 cucumbers, a green apple and a red apple... Next up will be some carrots, more cucumber and ginger and a small beet...

I think I'm also going to make a lemonade or limeade to drink up along with some "detox" herbal hot tea.

Waiting for 20 minutes to pass so I can spit out this sesame oil and do a salt water swish... Just about there. Then I can juice these babies!

Firicia: I actually still haven't juiced for a full day start to finish. I had an avocado one day and ended the day with two clementines the other. I still benefited greatly, though. Juice fasting was part of me discovering a lot about the root of my emotions and how they relate to food. And it still cleaned me out. I can't say any of that was a failure or disappointment. Just keep on keepin' on! :)

Heather:

Thanks for clearing everything up! One more question though. Everyone is saying to do this in the morning but would it work at night or mid day? I have an hour and a half train ride every morning to work so I do not want to have it hit then haha.

Anywho yesterday was surprisingly not that bad at all anytime I felt a bit hungry I had some lemon water and that calmed it down.
Today I had lemon/cayenne water and now I am having a cantalope/honeydew juice that is fabulous.

For lunch I have a green juice made of broccoli, pepper, spinach, kale, parsley, celery, zucchini and an apple

and for a snack I have a cranberry apple juice

Feeling a little stir crazy in the kitchen for food... Had my juice and already ready for more or something... it's been less than an hour!...

All right, just made another juice with carrots, ginger and a touch of parsnip and ack! I can't remember what but something else. It made about 20 oz of juice and I split it with water so I've got about a whole liter of liquid now.

LOL and I've gotta pee! :D

Oh NO you do not want it to hit on your train ride  . I did it in the middle of the day a few days ago but I think the key is that your stomach needs to be empty (I can't even imagine trying to drink that much salt water right after I've drank juice - yuk). So, it worked fine for me in the middle of the day, I'm sure there is a reason why they suggest you do it in the morning but I don't really know what that reason is other than your stomach being empty.

Eva and Solong - You guys are so adventurous with your juices! I'm a juice chicken (or my DD would call me a juice wuss). I am afraid of taking up the time to juice and all that produce and if I don't like it, I'm not the kind of person that will drink it anyway. So ... good for you, your juices sound LOVELY! Maybe I'll be more brave when I'm not making such a quantity.

Anyway, I am back from Sam's Club I can't even believe I bought 42 POUNDS of apples! LOL! For whatever reason my green apple juice is the one I enjoy the most. Well, I suppose I better drink some juice and hit the books with the kiddos! I'll check back later.

Ha yea I am one of those "i'll just drink it anyway" kind of people but surprisingly they all taste pretty good. I think as far as combining, just think of if you would eat the ingredients together, whether in a salad, salsa etc.

I am going to try this salt business later tonight, thanks for your advice.

I just had to check in quick (kids are practicing recorder). DH called me a few minutes ago and is eating his raw stuff he brought with him for lunch! YES! He did have guac with a few chips as he went out to lunch with the guys but did not eat the mexican food they all ate, he went back and drank his juice! I'm just so excited I had to share. I just realized I forgot to drink my juice awhile ago and all I've had today is about 10 oz. carrot juice, I can't believe I'm not hungry, but don't want to get faint, so off I go to drink some juice.

Eva and Solong - good for you guys! Even if it tastes like sludge? You still drink it? Wow, I'm impressed (and feeling a bit like a wuss - lol). But Solong I suppose you are right if it is a combination I would eat together it should be fairly safe.

Hey guys I can't believe how this affected me... I sat down to look at my calendar and saw that my dad and my son have their birthdays coming up and was flooded with thoughts of all sorts of foods "I can never eat again" like there was the little guy sitting on my shoulder saying if you want to be a raw foodist you will never have (it started with birthday cake).... then my mind just went through the list - WOW! In an instant it changed my mood. I walked away from the calendar and my brain already started working on .... well no, I don't want to put those things in my body but I can have .... XYZ. So, I have made it through the moment but that was interesting. I am challenging myself whenever I think of a food that I used to love cooked, to come up with a raw similar type food (may be texture OR flavor), to tell myself I CAN have.

You just have to make a call about what's more important and do your best to make sure you don't lose sight of whatever that is. For me, I've made some decisions lately that have surprised me... And that's not bad or good, just is. I do know that raw food should bring freedom not shackles. Freedom from aches and pains etc., but when you're feeling like it's shackles in a particular instance, then you'll have to make the call about where your heart leads you.

If it's just the cakes for your family, this could be a very good excuse to play around with the raw cakes!!! :D :D

I've got some errands to run... and I'm not even hungry now, but I know I'll be gone for 1-3 hours. I guess the best I can do is go ahead and juice and bring it with me?? Or else just bring water and be hungry if I'm hungry??

Aw well... I'm going to make some juice real quick and chug it. It's not like I'm not hungry and eating a large cheese pizza anyways... And I'll just bring some water.

For future reference what do you guys do when you're leaving the house? I work from home, so this isn't usually a situation I have to deal with, but I'd like to know! :)

I started today and now I have a headache and dry mouth. It always starts this way for me as I'm sure with others as well. I'm pressing through though.

What equipment is everyone using to juice. I have a Jack lalanne (sp)? It does okay but after awhile it gets hot and quit.

Anyone doing some sort of exercise? After I get over this hump of the first few days I am going to walk on the treadmill.

I never really remember what juices I juice. I just cup up a bunch of stuff (carrots, apples, cucumbers, green leafs. kale, celery)and throw it in the juicer. I need to be more detailed in that and keep a record.

I have the Breville XXJE95XL Juicer and it has been working great. My only complaint is that I dont think it gets much juice out of the leafy greens but I do still get some.

As for exercise, I am pretty into it ha. I run 30 mins on the elliptical at 5AM every weekday before I go to work. When I get home from work I go to jazzercise for an hour and sometimes run more after that. On the weekends I do kickboxing, body toning and jazzercise on saturday and jazzercise and circuit training on sunday. I walk a ton because I work in NYC. I like to keep busy, if I dont then I just sit on the couch eating entirely too man fruits and nuts haha

So hows everyones fasts going?

Eva - I haven't had to worry about leaving the house without juice since day 3, but before day 3 I couldn't go more than an hour or 2 without feeling faint without juice. But I would have done exactly what you did.

Raw_Danceruk - I'm so sorry you're not feeling good. Think of all that wonderful mucus your body is getting rid of .. uh, well maybe you don't want to think about it to much. When I was a kid I had allergies so bad that I regularly woke up with "glue eye".

SparkleMichele - I am using my trusty 12 year old Champion. If I was buying a juicer today I'd probably go for a GreenPower or GreenStar (better at juicing greens) but I am getting a dehydrator next, so I'm using this juicer until it dies and it makes great banana or fruit ice cream, but then again so does the Vita Mix. Exercise ... hmm .. why didn't I think of that (lol). I unfortunately HATE exercise, but yes, it will be part of my routine soon. I am actually feeling good, I might start walking on the treadmill next week. I have some challenges approaching this weekend so I need to get through this weekend focused on my juice fast and THEN I can think about exercise.

Solong - Wow! I am continually impressed with your workout schedule. Have you always enjoyed working out or is this something you have had to work on?

Firicia - Hey! My tummy was a bit upset for almost the first three days too(maybe it was in shock!). This too shall pass.

I am doing good but have thought about food more today. And it doesn't help my bird is screaming his head off today (maybe the change in the weather, or that I haven't paid him enough attention). Well, I need to finish up the last of my stuff before hubby gets home and my parents show up for dinner. I'll check in tonight.

Heather! Good to hear I wasn't too off with what I did. I actually got a hunger pang about 5-10 minutes before I got home. Then I had all of these groceries to unpack, but I made carrot juice right away (no cutting needed, it was the fastest!)... I'm actually feeling pretty fantastic. :)

It's funny how when I'm juicing, I sort of have no choice but to get beyond the usual snackie munchies and thinking about food all the time. I'm sure you'll get over the hump again soon!

Hello guys, I am starting day 4 of my juice feast in the morning (it's 10 pm here in the UK now). So far, I am LOVING it! Fuzzy teeth and furry tongue, but that's great, though! Means the detox is already in full swing. ;) I have no hunger, no cravings, no lack of energy, in short, I'm feeling GREAT! :D Long may it last, eh? :p

I am blogging about my experiences at http://powerofraw.blogspot.com, so far I have been doing daily updates there. I have made a little "before" video, and I have made a list of where people can get hold of the various supplements here in the UK, that one might be useful to some people here.

Anyway, the laptop battery is draining fast, and my tongue scraper and my bed is calling me! ;)

Think I will have cantaloupe juice in the morning... mmmm....

Wishing you all the best year ever!!!

Lots of love from Neens (aka Indie)

Heather - I have definitely had to work on my work out schedule. All through school the only exercise I did was volleyball in the fall and dance class 2 times a week but I was overweight. When I started college I joined a gym and went every weekday. That continued for about a 7 months then I started working out at home with aerobics and pilates tapes. At this time I kinda was taking it too far, I wasnt eating more than an apple and carrots and was living on energy drinks. With all that energy I would stay up til like 4am working out, it was wayyyyy to much. After getting over that I continued to work out but not as consistently. Now it is just part of my schedule and in all honesty since being raw I stopped drinking and smoking grass and now exercise is my natural 'high'. And when I dont feel like going I try to force myself because I know once I am there I will feel great it is just the push to go. It is kind of like how kids dont want to take a bath but once they are in the tub they just want to keep playing. haaha

Hey Solong - even though I can't comprehend obsessive behavior when it comes to exercise I totally understand it as it relates to food. I have gone through phases in my adult life where I walk consistently (like 3 miles a day, nothing extreme) but that's the extent of it. I've never been "athletic" maybe that can change too - who knows. I think starting Monday I am going to plan to get at least 30 min. on the treadmill at least 5 days a week. I would love to join a gym but it just doesn't fit in my life at the moment, maybe when my children are a little older and they can work out with me that would work.

I had some issues today that I'm dealing with... I was irritated easily, thought about food more ... could be hormonal too. I will be starting tomorrow with the SWF and hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. I really drank barely any juice today compared to what I've been drinking. Just a weird day.

Happy Fasting and I'll see y'all tomorrow.

Yea well with kids it definitely must be hard to get that time for yourself.

I know I said before I just drink anything I juice good or not but that might not be the case tomorrow. I had a bunch of okra I had to get rid of so I thought well might as well juice it for my green juice for tomrw. WHOAAAAAAA BAD IDEA! It isnt juice it is slime. I dont think the flavor will be a problem but my god this is a thick juice of snot. I'll let you all know how it goes tomrw at lunch time:confused:

Oh Solong - Okra! I've read that okra is good to include IN your juice I can't imagine juicing it straight. You will definitely have to let me know how it goes. So, do you have a juice bar close by or are you just out of luck if you can't drink it? See, I'm just not that brave lol!

I just drank my SWF - ugh. I haven't made juice yet I think I'm going to start my day with some diluted grapefruit juice. Off to juice some grapefruit :D .

Heather

Haha Oh no i didnt juice it straight haha. I mixed it into my green juice with spinach, parsley, zucchini, carrots and celery. I brought a straw to drink it. Im kind of nervous haha not really but ugh it looked soo gross and I tried to like strain it even more and it was absolutely the worst gooey feeling haha. OH well. Ill probably take a sip then chug some water ha.

For now though I am going to have my cherry, blackberry, kiwi juice.

BTW what is SWF?

MiahTay
01-03-2008, 09:38 AM
Oh, well if you mixed it in with the other juices you should be able to drink it down fast just to get it down if you have to.

SWF = Salt Water Flush  . I'm feeling good now. I just drank my first 16 oz. of grapefruit juice - man it tastes good today. I might just have another glass :D . I am having a lazy day today, but I better kick into gear if I'm going to get anything accomplished. I'm still trying to recover from our vacation time.

More later.

Ok I did it, I had to throw away my green juice that was full of okra. Oh god I cant even describe how awful it was. Not the taste but the texture. I took one sip and when I had to break the strand of slime with my teeth in the garbage it went. So now I am drinking a delicious grapefruit/orange juice and if I feel the need later I will make a green drink.

Solong - Sorry but I had to giggle just a little. Yeah, that sounds pretty bad, and I can sort of imagine as years ago when we first got our vitamix my DH was experimenting and made a "banana smoothie" OH MY, BANANA SLIME (I truthfully don't even know HOW he did it) it is seared into my memory and for quite some time I was actually afraid to put bananas into my smoothies - LOL.

I am kicking myself right now. I HAVE GOT to stop going to the RECIPES and food board on this site! It is KILLING me! OK, my new rule until I am done with this fast is no more looking at RECIPES! It will be my undoing.

Today has been a weird day, I really haven't been hungry and I REALLY haven't felt like juicing so all I've consumed today is 44 oz of grapefruit juice. I will probably get a little creative for dinner as I have a ripe pineapple that I'm claiming half of for my juice and I think I'll throw an apple or two and some grapes in with it .... mmmmm that sounds good.

Well I hope 3rd time is a charm, lol. Yesterday I ended up eating agian, :p . My mind was just going crazy about food. After I ate last night I went to a fasting website I like to visit and found a section saying that it happens a lot and not to trust what yuor mind is saying about food while fasting. It made a lot of sence to me, so I am gonna try that today.

Right now I feel a little ill. I was out getting my car fixed and had juice at a juice bar. They had wheatgrass so I gave an oz a try, and now my tummy hurts. I know it's a detox thing though so I'll just wait it out. Also while I was in the mall I was at a nice clothing store and decided to make myself a nice little deal that if I can last 30-40+ days of juicing I'll buy myself a nice outfit and some nice boots too:D It's nice to think of having something after my fast that has nothing to do with food.

Yes, I have milestone rewards I'm almost at my "get Alissa's Book" milestone, then next is a "get a massage" milestone, and the last one I have mapped out is "get a dehydrator" milestone. This helps keep me motivated - unfortunately my milestones are connected to weight and not days ... maybe I should rethink this.

I just got done drinking a glass of pineapple/apple/grape juice that I had to cut with water because it is to sweet.

Hey I'm really craving something salty anyone got a good (tasty...not slimy) juice combo that might hit that button? I know celery is a good source of sodium but haven't been big on the flavor in the past. I was thinking about spicing it up a little and adding a little cilantro and maybe a small amount of jalapeno to a veggie blend tomorrow. I'm thinking something like carrot/romain/cilantro/jalapeno/tomato? thoughts? I'm missing food again, but this is sooooo good for me. I haven't really had bad detox symptoms but I have a coated tongue today. Last week I had roving pain in my muscles (muscle pain was one of the reasons I started this fast). I also have been fighting a bit of a headache all day. And my skin is doing weird things dry and bumpy (but this could be partly the weather also). But I am seeing an improvement in my amount of mucus I wake up with every morning. I suppose that's about all for now, I'll check in again before bed.

Doesn't make me burp but I have to not think about it for a few minutes after I've drank it because my stomach is not happy with me, but after 5-10 minutes I feel normal.

If so, should I freeze it overnight or just refridgerate it? I so want to do this!!!

Well I ended up eating today. I was doing really great but then I really wanted to go out an be social with some friends I haven't hung out with because of the holidays and we went for dinner. I am having a hard time with being social with people and so it's one thing I want to work on this year but it seems today it is getting in the way of my fasting, also tomorrow or the next day there is gonna be a food party at my house. I am just wondering when this all stops. Maybe I just need to put off trying to be social and just be ok with the fact that I need this for myself right now.

After dinner I was playing a game with my roomies and found out that 2 people they work with died over the holidays, and both were young. It just made me really think how one minute we are here and the next we could be gone. It got me to thinking about why I want this fast, and how part of it is not just healing but to lose weight so that I can be comfortable being me. I guess until tonight I never realized just how important being comfortable in this body is to me. I don't want to always stay home because I am embarassed about my size, I want to go live life. So tonight I am going to think about when I want start fasting again. As much as I have been struggling to really start fasting I know that when something is hard it is usually when I learn the most.

So thats what I am up to, getting my mind really ready for this fast.

Hi MiahTay,

I've done two 21-day fasts before, and I got on fine with them, but feasting is much, much better! With the 4 litres that I should drink every day, I'm never hungry or lacking energy, and I haven't experienced any bad detox symptoms either like I did when I was fasting (i.e. no headaches, runny nose etc). I am absolutely LOVING it this far (today is my day 5), living on liquids just really seem to suit me. I just wish my mason jars would arrive soon, so I can prepare all the juice in one fell swoop every morning!

DivaInTheRaw, you can prepare the juice the night before, but don't freeze it, that will destroy the enzymes and according to juicefeasting.com, juices that have been frozen taste horrible. If you have mason jars or preserving jars or similar (sth. made of glass which is airtight), the juice will last for up to 36 hours, but you shouldn't drink any juice that is older than that. The fresher, the better! Anyway, I hope that helps answer your question. It's worth reading the FAQ section at juicefeasting.com - it certainly helped resolve a lot of my initial worries!

Right, time to summarise yesterday's feast on my blog now (http://powerofraw.blogspot.com) and then I better get on with work... ;o)

Lots of love from Neens (aka Indie)

How are you all doing?

Well, it never stops... we are a society that is surrounded by food. We eat to celebrate, we eat to be sad, we eat because we're anxious, we eat on the run, and WHAT we eat is usually NOT good for us. So... a little about me... I've struggled with my weight since I turned 19 (which is almost 20 years ago), this diet, that diet, juicing w/ high raw, back to sad, back to juicing w/ high raw and in the past 10 years I saw my blood pressure raise, my hair start to fall out, my energy drop to nothing, then about 3 years ago I started having some weird muscle pains in my hip area, then it spread to my upper arms, then my knees, my ribcage and my groin and my energy really took a dump (to be honest with you I started thinking there was something scary wrong with me). Unfortunately this is what it took for ME to look past the food around me and be able to fast anyway. Since I've started my fast I've had a sad potluck in my house, and COOKED dinner for my family of 5 (besides Me) every night. Tonight we are having guests over for, you guessed it, DINNER. But I told them ahead of time what I am doing and they are fine with it because they are my friends. Oh, and I have another SAD potluck coming up this Sunday here in my house. But if I never drew the line in the sand, who knows where my health would be 5 years from now. So, since Nov. 1, I know my BP is great/normal, my weird muscle pains are 90% gone, my breathing has improved AND I've lost about 15 lbs. So, I hope this is encouraging to you and not discouraging in any way - you CAN do it, hopefully you don't wait until you HAVE TO (Like me). And remember the first day is the hardest and once you are past the first 3, it gets much easier. AND you may consider that now may not be the time, as I'm sure you read, winter is not the IDEAL time to fast, it is much more natural in the spring and summer.

And about the loss of your friends, I'm sorry for your loss. But you are right, none of us knows the length of our days.

Whoawhoawhoa, I am not really a fan of the SWF. I just died, several times ugh. It wasnt like a regular BM at all it was like bile and it hurts, is that normal?

No, mine didn't hurt. And I will usually go about 4X before I would say the SWF has totally passed. There is a lot of liquid for obvious reasons (all that SW has to go somewhere). Actually the first one was the worst (I don't know why this is, maybe it was because I didn't know what to expect). I have done one yesterday and today also, and I really believe it is helping my detox move along. But it's not for everyone I'm sure. You can always try the senna tea?

I am not on juices as yet - first days of new year i finished previously made dishes than blended most of the left overs. For last two days i am on 4 cups of juices with water and 6 cups of smoothies - all liquid , but not ready for juices only. I am slowly going to this direction but it might take a while to adjust. I made few things" cold turkey" ( poooor turkey, cold) but somehow it seems dramatic and i don;t want to fail so i am doing it in steps. My goal is to be on juices only for at least 14 days but i am not there yet. Today i will make less smoothies and more juices and so tomorrow. Need a hug:)

Thanks heather. I think I just was not knowing what to expect but I def think it was better to do at night because then you just sleep it off ha.

Anywayyyyyyy I have a sad story. Last night I went to go cut up my cantalope and when I touched it it caved in it already was juicing it self in my fruit basket. EWWWW! ha.

So on todays menu I have

Grapefruit orange juice (this will be a staple since my gma sent me like 100 grapefruits from her tree in florida)
Apple, carrot, ginger juice
Celery, spinach, parsley, kale, zucchini, cucumber, lemon juice (I had to get rid of the leftovers)

Thanks for the info Indie!

I've been to juicefeasting.com several times but never saw an FAQ section. I went back and had to do a search on their site to find it. It was chocked full of great info. By the way are you doing all of the recommended supplemental juice feasting activities, i.e. supplements, ennemas, body brushing, etc? I plan to do the 92 day feast as well. I will start on Monday 01/07/08. Do you have any favorite recipes?

Well it's day three and I am at the stage where my mind is playing tricks on me. I'm telling myself..I can never make it to X amount of days, just go back to trying to eat raw. If I go back trying to eat raw I know it would not last long and I will be back on cooked food. I need this detox. If I can get through this day......

I would really love to do a juice feast. I understand that you need to prepare 2-4 quarts per day. Because of my work schedule and living arrangements I would not be able to prepare the juice before work. Could I prepare the juice the night before? If so, should I freeze it overnight or just refridgerate it? I so want to do this!!!

Welcome! Yeah, I agree with Indie don't freeze it - yuk. I would make sure there is as little air in the container as possible before you put the lid on. I personally can't stand the taste of some juices if they are over a few hours old but most are ok.

Ok guys I can't believe I'm on day 10! YES! So far today I've had 32 oz. grapefruit juice and I will juice some romain/carrot/tomato later. Maybe some apple juice too. I am finding it difficult to motivate myself to juice as I'm totally NOT HUNGRY. But I am trying to make sure I'm drinking at least 2 quarts of juice a day. I noticed today that I woke up this morning without my morning "hack fest" ... I usually go through 10-15 minutes where I am coughing like crazy - NADA, NOTHING, NOT ONE COUGH! So, my amount of mucus has improved greatly. This was one of the things I was hoping to see improve during this fast. It is so exciting to see the list of things that I wanted to see improvement in ACTUALLY IMPROVING! ALL of them! I'll check back in later.

Well, I tried a new juice..... ugh. BUT I still drank it anyway (I'm so proud of myself). I have been dying for a huge salad so I figured why not just juice one? Sounded logical to me and it went along with your theory Solong, that if you would eat it together it should make decent juice. So I proceeded in juicing a whole head of romain lettuce, 9 carrots, 4 tomatoes .... um, not a good idea. As I'm sure some more "hard core" juice fans would think it was great - me, not so much. But I made it through day 10 and tomorrow on to 11. My mom and dad just left and I'm tired but I'm going to read for a little while before bed.

Hi DivaInTheRaw,

yes I am doing most of them. I have only had one enema so far, but I think I will have another one today. I was really apprehensive of the whole thing, it seemed like a very daunting prospect to me, but it was actually really easy! I do most of the supplements (there are a few I haven't been able to get hold of yet) and I do dry skin brushing and tongue scraping as well. I wrote about all the supplements I take in my blog (http://powerofraw.blogspot.com/2008/01/my-juice-feast-day-1.html) but I have since run out of spirulina and chlorella so I am not doing them right now.

I think my favourite recipe so far is just pineapple and spinach! Although I loooove watermelon juice as well... Best of luck with your preparations!!! Liquid living is very juicy! ;)

Hey All! How is everyone doing? I'm doing good, I just got done making most of my juice, I still have the grapefruit juice to go but decided to take a break and check in here. I have noticed changes in my sinuses over the last few days and last night as I was going to bed the left side of my face clogged up and it looked like I was wearing a pink mask over my nose and under my eyes, then this morning the left side of my nose is running like a faucet! But isn't detox interesting, ya never quiet know what's next - I love the ride. AND I weighed this morning and I've reached my goal (plus another pound) where my reward is getting to order Alissa's book! YES! So, I will do that today. How exciting, I can't wait to get it! Hmmmm.... do I want to wait a few days to order it because if I order it today it will arrive before I am done fasting that could be bad.... I'll have to think about that.

Have a GREAT day!

Hello everyone

Sorry you didnt enjoy your salad juice Heather.
Just got back from my crazy saturday workout, took a shower and had some juice.

I decided I wouldnt weigh myself til the end but I can tell my stomach is getting flatter. My thighs, thats another story:mad: But I feel great so who cares ha.

My skin is not so great right now. My chin has been consistently broken out since going raw, so detox is present but my dad said I look pale, I dont know what that is about.

Well going to relax, later guys

Hey all! I've had a good day and am at the end of Day 11. I have decided to break my fast tomorrow. I discussed it with DH, because I didn't want to just break it without thought and consideration. When I started this fast I had intended to fast for 21 days and the reasons I chose to fast were:

Strange muscle pains
Excess mucus in the mornings
Weight loss (really secondary to feeling better)

My muscle pain is GONE. My coughing fits in the mornings caused by excess mucus are gone and I've lost 9 more pounds. But my primary concern is that since I haven't been eating with my family I have been making "easier" choices and not feeding my family as well as I could. I am transitioning back to raw foods tomorrow so that I can once again be inspired to make delicious raw creations for my family. This fasting experience as a whole has been WONDERFUL for me and it showed me that I could do something that I never thought I could and I truly believe this would NOT have been possible without all of YOUR SUPPORT so thank you all VERY MUCH. I will see you all around the boards and I'll check in here from time to time.

Blessings,

Hello Everyone - I am going to jump in on this too. I am on day two of what I hope to be a 92 day feast. My first two days this weekend have been great besides a few cravings. I am hoping that tomorrow morning goes well with making my juice before work. I am thinking that I will need to get up by 5 am to get it all done.

I so far have been making amazing juices. The market by my house has great sales on organic produce this week so it has been easy.

I am following the juicefeasting.com pretty closely, I have most of the supplements and stuff. Although I can't seems to locate my skin brush. So far I have gotten a really big high off of the enemas, I really didn't like the idea of them either, but I am hooked now.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep spirulina from clumping up in their juice? It seems that no matter how well I shake it I get some good sized clumps. The other green powders I don't have much of a problem with.

Hi Raw Bunny,

I discovered a way to make lump-free juices two days ago, I wrote about it on my blog (http://powerofraw.blogspot.com). Basically, what I do is sieve all the various powders (kelp, turmeric, cayenne, spirulina, chlorella, greener grasses... what have you!) into a jar to remove all the lumps, and then I add some water and shake the jar vigorously. Then just add it to your juice! :D

Sounds great to have an organic market near your house! Best of luck with your feast, I am starting day 8 today, whooo hooo! :D One week down already! :D

Hi everyone, I've been following along, trying to learn about more about fasting and feasting :)
I was totally psyched to cure a cold in one day by just drinking juice, now I'm totally sold. I'm drinking at least one large juice every day. (probably 16-20 oz) and have been doing a fast one day each weekend, but the time I spend preparing to make and cleaning the juicer is a bit of a hindrance. I keep reading that ya'll who are juice feasting are juicing large quantities and keeping them refrigerated - but I've always thought you had to drink juice pretty soon after juicing or it looses a lot of it's value. Is this not true? I'd love to be able to bring juice with me to work (and not have to make it in the morning!).

Cheers!

What about whizzing it up in a blender? That's what I do, it seems to work fine. I have a little "Magic Bullet" blender for when I don't quite need the giant Vitamix.

While the juice is best when you drink it right after you juice it, you can drink it within 24 hours I believe. During the week I juice 3 water bottles full the night before and bring it with my to work. It seems to store fine and tastes good, so I would say go ahead and juice at night then when you are home juice as you drink.

I also find that having a citrus juicer in addition to a regular juicer is great because that is a quicker clean up so when I am short on time I just juice oranges and grapefruits.

Indie - Thanks for the sieve idea, I will have to start doing that. I happened upon your blog a few days ago, it was one of the better ones I have read in awhile. I started a blog, but haven't gotten very far. I like the idea of doing it, but have yet to really take the time to get it going.

I made the best juice today. I did a "salsa" juice with tomato, garlic, onion, cilantro, peppers, red leaf lettuce, celery, cucumber, cayenne and kelp. Two of my coworkers were "brave" enough to try it and they both loved it. I told a friend of mine who is also doing the juice feast about it and had to make it tonight and he also said it was the best juice he has had so far. I can't wait to make it again tomorrow.

Okay. So yesterday I read through juicefeasting.com and gleaned what information I could without signing up and paying the money. I went to bed early as I had a headache and wasn't feeling so great. My daughter has a cold, I was worried I was catching it. I woke up wide awake at 3, and felt like I was getting sick. So I got up and decided to make a whole bunch of juice to take to work with me. I've never done that before. The juicefeasting site said it would take about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to make all your juice for the day. I started at 4am, and didn't get done until 6am. First of all, my little juicer broke in the middle of juicing beets. Beet juice was everywhere - my kitchen looked like a butcher shop! So then I found a strainer and put it over a bowl and decided to use the vitamix like they said on the site to make my juice. So I rechopped everything to go in the blender, and then tried to strain my first batch and broke the strainer handler right off. So I got a box of nylons I use for making almond milk, and started straining through those. My husband got up at 5:30 when I was in the throes of it all and said I hadn't caught a cold, I had caught chaos.
Anyhow, I somehow got it all bottled and packed (approx 5 20oz containers, plus one I drank before leaving - is that enough? I couldn't do more!) and then I decided to do the "morning regimen" as prescribed on the site, but as we only had one bathroom, I had to rush, and that was no fun.
How on earth do you guys do this every day? Even if I did it at night, it would still be an ordeal - and probably more difficult as evenings are already taken up with the kiddo and all the other stuff that needs to be done.
I really want to get to a place where I can do this. I think I would probably wait until spring when the produce doesn't cost so much to do any sort of major feast, but right now I feel like I'm giving it trial runs to sort out the kinks and keep from getting these nasty winter bugs going around!

So I made 2 containers of pineapple, orange, cranberry & ginger
and 3 of cucumbers, celery, parsley, kale, beet, carrot, scallions
Into 2 of the veggie juices I blended some Udo's oil, ginger & yellow onion (well I strained out the pulp before adding the Udo's.)

Wow that sounds like quite a lot of work GypsiAnsara.

I wish I could give you some advice but I've never done a feast. Today I am starting a juice fast, but I don't have to drink a lot of juice so I don't have to spend so much money which is nice, and time.

Anyways I am sure maybe it just takes some practice to figure what works for you. I wish you the best of luck:)

P.S. Does anyone know anything about skin brushing? I bought a brush now I am feeling a little clueless:p

Skin brushing if I'm not mistake (someone correct me if I'm wrong) you start at your soles and work upward in small circles. Oh and try not to brush sensitive areas like the breast (nipples)....trust me on that:eek:

Yesterday I was up from 3am til Midnight, quite wide awake and not sleepy. But I slept like a rock, and it took me 1/2 hour of hitting the snooze button to get up this morning. And today is a work at home day where I don't have to get up til about 7:30. It was sooooo hard to get up!!!

My nose is running like a faucet, but my ear isn't tickling inside anymore like it was yesterday. I did oil pulling this morning, and then drank a large lemon water, and now am drinking OJ left over from last night. I really want to keep doing a juice feast until all the cold symptoms go away but I'm feeling some trepidation about entering the kitchen again, as yesterday was so crazy. I still have a green juice left over - I guess I should drink that first. I have a lot to get done today, my daughter is home with me as she needed to rest, and we need to drive over the mtns to see family visiting from afar this afternoon. I wish I could just stay in bed all day but that won't be the case I'm afraid.
:(

I haven't been hungry at all, which keeps amazing me.

Good for you with the fast Gypsi and I hope your cold clears up fast.

I just drank a bottle of beet, carrot juice, lots of beets. As I was drinking it I started getting tingly all over and I was like OH CRAP YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO DRINK A TON OF BEET JUICE. So I was just looking things up and it says not to drink it straight and I didnt but the ratio of beets & beet tops to carrots was like 70/30. Im not gonna lie though I kind of like the weird tingly feeling and somewhat lightheaded hahaha, maybe its just me. Oh well. Not to much action on this board as of late, hope you all are doing great with the fasting!

I agree solong! It seems a bit quiet all of a sudden.
Keep us informed about the beet situation. What do you know about ODing on them? Hadn't heard about that before, and I've always been a big beet eater. I usually put 1/2 a beet in a large juice.

Well my cold or "detox" whatever it is, seems to be getting worse. I think I'm going to try to go to bed now. I drank a coconut when I got home a little bit ago - is that alright on a juice fast?
I'm having a bit of trouble with WANTING to eat even though I'm not hungry. I'm really really tired. Since I have to commute to work tomorrow, I don't know what to do. Just try to ride it out and keep juice feasting? What if I'm MORE tired??

I fast every other day for spiritual, as well as to control my eating habits. I've been eating raw foods vegan way three-four years ago but I can't control myself once I eat cooked and processed foods. The reason, I am fasting every other day.

My way of fasting is without water and food for 16 hours because it starts from dawn to sunset. Prophet David (the one with Book of Psalms in the bible) used to fast in alternate days. His way of fasting is said to be the best fast for common people like us.

I also receive a newsletter from http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/ about fasting, why our digestive system needs short burst of rest.

Hope my this post gives motivation to others who want to fast.

SparkleMichele - I use a green star, but I am sure your juicer would do just fine. I have used different medium to hot peppers depending on what I have or just cayenne.

My juicer doesn't juice tomato very well with the standard setup, so i think from now on I am just going to use the blender for them and add it to the rest.

Hey all! I've been tossing around the idea of choosing a day a week to juice fast, to give my system a break. Any thoughts?

I think that is a great idea. I was just thinking about something like that also for when I am done with this fast. For me I think I might do a 5 day fast every few weeks (it is easy for me to fast during the work week, just juice and go)

But I would totally do a weekly fast like on Mondays. I tend to make a lot of raw creations on the weekend so that would be sweet ha. Very good idea Heather

Yep, my first knee jerk reaction was MONDAY is the perfect day, then I started thinking about it and my Monday's are one of my busiest days and we go to my mom's house for dinner on Monday's ... she's been great about me only eating a salad but this might be pushing it - LOL. So, I think I might choose Tuesday or Wednesday, haven't decided yet. Either that or I could see if my mom wants to do another night of the week for dinner. Hmmmm.... Gonna talk to the hubby and see if he wants to join me. He has been mostly raw since our fast ended with a few exceptions but he has been packing his RAW lunch every day. More to come on this.

I went to my chiro dr this morning, and he did muscle testing and said that what is going on is bacterial, not viral, and got me a homeopathic remedy for that. Also, he showed my how to massage my lymph to open everything up. He started to talk about kinds of food not to eat then stopped himself and laughed because he knows I don't need that talk! Oh he also said my spleen was being affected by this, but not much else. I don't even know what my spleen does! :o

After that I went to Whole Foods and bought two large vegetable juices to take to work. I'm going to go to Jamba Juice and get some orange juice in a bit. Man, day of not supporting the local organic farmers!! I was just too tired to do the blender routine either last night or this morning. Oh and last night I felt very weird, and I blended the remainder of my green drink with some miso and a spoonful of cashew creme and some Udo's oil and drank it. I felt better, and went to bed. When I woke up I felt like continuing the feast/fast. So here I am!

Well I am feeling ready finally to take on this fast:) So today is day 1 for me.

So far I have juiced a pineapple, strained it, and then blended the juice with ice cubes to make a slushie. It sure was yummy but now my mouth hruts from all th citrus I guess.

I did my first fast on 1/1/8 and 1/2/8. My goal was a two day fast. Well I felt so good after it that I decided to do another one. My body felt at ease. It was a new sensation that I had not felt before. It was like the stress in my body had subsided. I did not know it was stressed until after the fast when I experienced this ease within.

So now I am on day 3 of a colon cleanse. Only fresh apple juice and herbal tea for me. I am going to do this for 6 days. Then I can eat lightly on Tues and Wed just in time to start my certification class with Alissa on Thurs. I should be bouncing off the walls with energy by the time I get home.

Thank you all for your support as I am very grateful too. I have read almost every post and every comment posted on these boards. It has helped me stay on the fast just knowing that there are so many others fasting at the same time.

I'm on day 3 of a juice feast, and I'm really enjoying it. I do have a few questions maybe you could help me with...
* When I make my juice, I use a juicer. Should I strain the juice even more? Or this that good enough?
* Why do people lose weight when doing a juice feast? I've been doing everything and anything possible to lose weight and on just 3 days of juice fasting I'm down about 4 pounds!!!! Amazing!!!!
Thanks everyone!

As far as straining I would say it depends. When I juice on my citrus juicer lots of the pulp stays in the juice so I strain it and on the rare occasion my regular juicer allows pulp through mostly when it is way full from juicing lots of vegetables. So I would say if it looks to thick strain it.

I would say you loose weight because you arent eating, giving you a puffed stomach. I dont know the scientific reasons but you can find out more info on www.juicefeasting.com

Well, I thought about it more and decided a one day a week juice fast sounded like a good thing, so.... today is the day. I got up this morning and juiced for my DH and myself. I am looking forward to a nice simple day and I'm so excited Hubby is doing this with me. He has been mostly raw since we completed our fast. The guys he works with are constantly fascinated with what he will be eating/drinking each day, he thinks it's funny. Have a great day!

Day 4 for me! Feeling great, although I am a bit tired. I really enjoy green juices. I love lettuce, celery and tomato juice. I also love sweet potato, pear and grapefruit juice - so delicious. I can't believe I'm not too hungry. I don't add oil or supplements to my juice. Do you think that's a problem?

I'm starting a feast/fast today. Today, I'm shooting for water only, then I'll move toward juices.

Does anyone happen to know how to juice cabbage?? Can I just put it in a masticating juicer (I think that's what it is - the one that rips the stuff to shreds), or would I need to use the same type of juicer that I would use for wheatgrass?

I have had an aggravated ulcer in the past, and I'm pretty sure that when I had a bad mix of food (some raw, some not) recently, I opened it back up. I heard cabbage juice was good for ulcers... So I just have to figure out HOW to make it!

Solonggoodnight... 15 days is still a looong time!
And Heather... I think one weekday a week sounds great! So cool you have a supportive husband. :)

Yes, I would just cut the cabbage into big hunks and put it through my juicer, I have juiced cabbage with my champion and it did just fine but it is pretty strong tasting.

And YES it is wonderful having a supportive husband, we've been on this journey of learning to eat in a way that is good for us since 1989! You would think we would have it all figured out by now!

Our juice fast yesterday went well until dinner time :o . I got Alissa's book in the mail yesterday and spent the afternoon paging through it - NOT recommended when you are fasting LOL! But will do it again next week.

hey there guys and gals I am on Day 2 of a 10 Day Cleanse! I am really doing well so far. I am glad I found this thread.

I have not really had any detox 'symptoms' yet. When do those kick in?

I have added hemp oil to mine and I liked it but I dont think you have to if you dont want to.

Hey Guys,

I'm new to this forum, but not to raw-- I've been raw for almost a year now. Its been great. I'm fasting right now, I'm shooting for a 14-21 day fast, depending on how my body feels after the 2nd week. The longest I've ever gone is one week, which was great, and I regret getting off of it so soon, as I was really getting into it at that point, but I had events in the following week that would have required I eat, and I had to end it after 7 days.

That said, I want this fast to really impact my health and body in a significant way. My holistic healer warns me against fasts that are too long, as he believes that they start after a while to compromise their actual purpose, and the body stops healing and starts going into mild crisis. I want to straddle the balance between a fast that is too short to make a difference and one that is too long and causes my body harm.

Right now, I'm on day 5 of my fast, drinking only freshly made juice (lots of greens), but the sense of clarity I felt on my previous fasts is somewhat diminished. I'm wondering if I need a deeper cleanse, now that my body has adjusted to a cleaner lifestyle. I do colonics and yoga during my fasts (and regularly in my lifestyle), and sometimes a UV sauna...I'm trying to get into the habit of body brushing, which I hear does a lot of good.

Any suggestions to make this fast make an impact?

How is everyone doing on there fasts/feasts? I am on Day 3. Still no symptoms or signs that I am on a detox. Any idea what the time frame is. I was under then impression the first 3 days were the hardest but I haven't really noticed anything out of the ordinary, well except I am not eating solids.

P... For me, whenever I drink any juices, it seems to help me immensely to either clean up my skin or start to detox (one of the two, or I guess either would be a mix of both!). I guess it would vary from person to person, though. On paper, it's been really appealing to me to do a longer fast (3-7 days would be longer to me!), but it's never felt like a good thing once I get into it to go past a day or two.

My point is that I bet a LOT about fasting varies from person to person.

Heather: I JUST now saw your help on cabbage. I went out of town for a few days (which was wonderful, and I did bring my juicer with me!). I still have some cabbage left, so I'm going to juice it right now, along with some cucumber and maybe some carrots and celery. :)

Heather... OK, I wasn't joking! I already tried that, it worked great. I did not set out to juice fast today or anything, and I have dinner plans at a restaurant tonight... but for breakfast and lunch, that's exactly what I was craving, just juice! And I'm feeling great. It's such a nice way to start eating for the day, just to ease up on the digestion. :)

I have been attempting Juice Feasting for the last week. I only made it 2 days and ended up eating something. I find that I am really craving salt badly. I almost feel like I should stop because I am starting to crave cooked food!

I am craving everything!! Cooked raw. Usually the smell of McDonalds and fast food makes me sick but since the fast, it smells so delicious! I think you should did it out and finish your cleanse. But if you are worried that if you don't start eating something raw now that tomorrow you may find yourself sitting in Burger King then by all means eat!

Hi All!
Congrats to all you who are juicing, cleansing and detoxing ;)
I plan on starting a 7 day juice feast this friday. I did a 12 day fast in November and like you, JennyGrace, had to end it due to Thanksgiving and having to eat something (raw) at the gathering I went to. I felt I could have gone a few days longer. It was very cool cuz when I started, I planned on doing 2 or 3 days.

I think you're right on, Eva, when you say fasting varies from person to person. That's why these boards are so RAWsome; we can all share our experiences and support eachother through them!

SuziS - To satisfy that "salt" craving, try adding some celery and a lime to your fave juice conconction - something about the natural sodium and the lime combo is refreshing and really does taste salty... Good luck!

I'll be back posting regularly in a few days when i start my feast.... In the meantime, Happy Juicing to all :D

Day 5 for me! Still no real symptoms. The only ones I have noticed are a heightened sense of smell. And my urine is clear but still really smelly. That may be because of the heightened sense of smell though! Lol

I tried Smooth Move Tea last night, that was a weird experience. I am thinking I may drink another cup on Friday night. I don't want to feel this way at work again, ugh. I can't tell if my belly is sore from working out yesterday or from the tea.

I am doing fine on the fast. I think I will easily be able to complete the full 10 days. I am a little disappointed in the lack of symptoms, which I know I should be happy about, but I feel like I am doing a juice fast for no reason. If my body isn't releasing toxins whats the point.

From what I've read, when you take the digestive/processing load off your body, not only does it release toxins (smelly pee??) but also it gives your system a chance to work on repairing itself - maybe things you can't tell are happening. So I wouldn't be so discouraged. Keep it up! Be grateful you aren't crippled in bed with migraines or breaking out in boils or congested with loads of snot!

When I was fasting earlier this month I had no detox symptoms until about day 8 then I had really smelly BO and my tongue was coated white. But because I had eliminated the sugar and coffee 2 months earlier didn't have the bad detox headache my hubby had. And remember just because you aren't feeling bad doesn't mean your body isn't doing necessary housecleaning! You're doing GREAT!

Yeah, not to worry!

I'm on day 25 today and still haven't really experienced any dramatic detox symptoms. I guess the worst so far are my mouth ulcers (I am LOVING straws at the moment! :p )

What I've had so far is: smelly BO, coated tongue (barely there now! :D), fuzzy teeth, metallic taste in the mouth, a tiny patch of exema on my stomach and a few emotional days. And then the mouth ulcers, of course.

I think in my case it is probably because I have already done two 21-day fasts, and so I am probably not quite as toxic as I feared. Which can only be a good thing!

Saying that though, I wouldn't be surprised if something starts happening as I go deeper into the feast. I also haven't been getting enough juice - I got an e-mail from David & Katrina Rainoshek the other day explaining that if you get less than 3 litres of juice a day, you're really fasting, not feasting, and that should only really be done under supervision of course. You can read the whole e-mail on my blog at http://powerofraw.blogspot.com if you're interested (scroll down to Day 22). I have managed to get in 4 litres plus since I read that eye-opener! :D

Wow, 24 Januaray already... soon it will be time to start a February juice feasting thread!

Juice on, people!

Lots of love from Neens
