{{clearing throat and trying to find inspirational words}}

AHEM,

ATTENTION:
2008 is just days away.....Have YOU thought about what improvements you'd like to make in your life? As a raw foodist you have already made positive gains to achieve what I like to strive for and call "optimal health". So, for 2008 why don't you make exercise a part of your lifestyle if you don't already. Think about it. Whether you are 120 pounds or double/triple that figure....your body was meant to move.....Webster's dictionary defines exercise as " activity for the purpose of training or developing the body or mind"..."bodily exertion for the sake of health" There are thousand's of inspirational quotes to get people to begin an exercise routine and soooo many people start out in earnest,,,,and then meander off the path. Make 2008 the year you stay on the path. Make a committment to yourself and your health to do something to improve your fitness level. Be realistic but don't be afraid to "push the envelope" and just do something different.....When I was overweight back in the 90's and signed up for my first marathon (not knowing ANYTHING about it, trust me!!!) I had soooo many naysayers it became a challenge. "Watch me" became my attitude (or badittude!:p ) and to date I have lost 50 lbs, run 12 marathons, 10 half marathons, 1 30 mile bike race, lots of small races, founded and now direct my own annual 10K race, and am aspiring to become a fitness and nutritional consultant. I have "survived" and come back from snapping the neck of my femur requiring "metal hardware" and then subsequently had it removed this past September. I run 50+ miles a week and work full time (teacher) raising 5 children and a husband (yes, I'm still raising him!:rolleyes: ) I get up at 3 a.m. to accomplish my goals.

Please note I am NOT trying to brag about myself by any means I am simply trying to INSPIRE you to make positive changes in your fitness level.
Every month we start a "fitness thread" here on the forum. I, "Di"/nfracer am here to "coach" you along.....My comrades RawFigure, Morn, and Lavendarj are my inspirational partners in crime! They too have equally inspirational stories that they could share here as we begin this new thread and venture into 2008 ((hint hint RF, Morn, and LJ))...

Please think about making a committment to yourself for 2008 and post here and share YOUR story! Maybe YOU will inspire someone else and we'll have the biggest "cyber gym" ever......
So, are you in? I am ready to start a roster! Post YOUR story, sign up and get going!

I am so in for January! I would like to lose and maintain my last five pounds. This year is about maintainence and toning. I would like to prove that you can lose a lot of weight and have a great toned body without surgery! I figure if I give it another year with eating right and regular exercise the body can do miraculous things!

As soon as I lose all of my weight I would like to add in weight training cause I think this will help with the toning aspect. Plus I am a weakling now and need to add in a little muscle!

I've been waiting on this. And this time I'm really going to do it. (Sh-h, I know I've said that before.)

We moved from MT to TX this fall and I have backslidden. Badly. So watch as I get back up on my horse and head for the sunset.

Goals: ??? 1. 100% RAW (I've done that before and I know I can do it again. I already hear my body thanking me.) 2. EXERCISE -- Rebounder -- daily! (I better set reasonable goals, I'd like to actually achieve them, therefore I'm stopping, if I do more, I can brag.) 3. BIBLE-TIME -- first thing in the morning.

I am so ready. In fact, I have been re-researching to prepare me. I've been re-reading all of my old down-loads and other's post about excercise and success. The tough part for me is reporting in everyday. I'll work on it.

Actually, yesterday I did my first 100% raw in months. I'm proud. Maybe today I'll actually get on the rebounder.

Thanks for the invite (again).

Im taking a key word & making it my focus for 2008...CONSISTENCY :D
This year is going to be the year I finally stop self sabotage & take a steady regular approach to changing my diet & fitness levels. Im going to wave goodbye to my old all or nothing attitude & negative self talk ;)
I will be setting achievable daily/weekly/monthly goals...no more setting myself up to fail...instead i am setting myself up for success.
Vision boarding & journalling will be tools I will use this year alongside raw vegan foods & exercise.

Week 1
Get to bed by 10pm EVERY night with no exceptions.
Get up at same time in the morning EVERY day.
Use my lightbox EVERY day.
Rebounding EVERY day.
Journalling EVERY day.
Creating my vision board begins this week.

As I reflect back to last year I thought I really didn't DO that much! I mean when I compare myself against some of you really serious minded exercise icons like Di and all the miles you ran etc. I am just a normal every day person just trying to get more fit. But then I thought about it a little more. This is what came to mind. For one thing when I started it took everything within me just to commit to doing any kind of exercise. Being up over 200 pounds it was just so difficult physically as well as I felt extremely stressed for time and was trying to figure out how I was going to fit it into my schedule. Then I heard about coach Di's schedule and family with having 5 kids and thought I am no where near as busy as her so if she could do it so can I. Maybe not every day but at least 3 times a week. So that is what I consistently committed to as my mininum. Sometimes I surpassed that and sometimes I just met my goal. But what I realize now is that what ever you set your mind out to do that I need to just DO it. I set goals I guess I thought I could reasonably meet - but to be honest with you for ME those goals as easy as it seems to others were not so easy for me. I had gotten out of any kind of regular exercise routine and hadn't exercised consistently in years so for me it was hard and it was a slow road back to health and being fit. I spent most of my adult married life (15 years) being over 200+ pounds and had given up hope to being thin again. Also for me it is hard to mentally overcome the idea of exercising but I always feel good after I am done. It is a real daily mental battle though. But with consistent exercise and eating right and over a years's time my body started to respond. I am now down 81 1/4 inches off of my body and 95 pounds off since I started eating raw and exercing.

I also chose for this past year to try some new fitness things like rebounding and now love it! I chose to mix up my routine sometimes working out at the gym on machines like the stairmaster which was also new for me - sometimes an aerobics class, swimming, stepping, pilates, yoga, rollerblading, taebo, etc. Now I like to do it all.

So if I can inspire anyone I want to say this "take small steps, set reasonable, obtainable goals and thirdly be consistent and accountable." Being a part of this thread has made all the difference in helping keep me on track. When I think about "not" exercising I think but I have to or else I will have nothing to report back to my friends with. I don't want to let myself down or others! So I thank you all and an even bigger thank you to Di cause she took me under her wing and didn't accept excuses from me in the beginning. You definately have the right balance to be a good coach!

Sorry this was so long but I couldn't answer that in a simple statement.

Hi all. Well, Morn invited me over to this challenge and I have to say I do feel up to it! I feel so much better when I exercise. I was always one to exercise at least an hour a day, if not 2. I desperately NEED and WANT to get back to that. So thank you for inviting me Morn!

I am starting this for New Year's eve. Why wait until the first? My goal is to exercise, of some sort, even if it is just a 15 minute walk, 365 DAYS THIS YEAR! yes, you read that right. As I said, even a 15 minute walk counts as long as it was deliberate exercise. Sounds big, but I dream big :-)

I will NOT let anything hold me back. (that includes you dear devil whispering in my ear "oh, but you are so tired, just hit snooze and go back to sleep bwhahaha" Nope, you ain't gonna win anymore!)

nfracer - thank you for the pep talk. You are an inspiration for me. I, too have had many challenges in regards to exercise - twisted ankles, partially torn AC ligament in left knee, herniated back discs, arthritis in the spine, and fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I am NOT complaining! I am just putting this in writing to say that I am so darn determined to do this! I want someone else to be inspired too that if I can do it, so can you. I have written out a 12 week exercise/movement program that will (God willing) include a running/brisk walking training program every other day! I am so excited about this! With all my 'problems' and at 47 1/2 I am feeling like a kid again and that maybe, just maybe, I CAN do this! I am almost in tears writing this (from pure joy). I look forward to committing to all of you and to myself. Good luck on our journey to everyone! :)

Needless to say, I am in for Jan.

My 2008 Goal is "Routine". As I look back at 2007 i see that was my biggest obstacle. Lack of sticking to my routine. I let to many things side track me ! I spent 18 years committed to my Training and slacked big time the last 18 mo. I was thinking along that I had a solid enough base from a lifetime of exercise and a little slack would not do much damage. At first no, but in last 6 month I am noticing that while the scales are the same (and my clothes are fitting more loose).the bodyfat ratio is increasing :eek: . So enough..back to the ROUTINE !!

Speaking of reaching for goals....Some of you know I have a 10K race here that I HOST AND AM IN CHARGE OF (aka "race director").... (in northern NY) the first Saturday in August.* Participants can run, walk, cycle, or In-line skate all to benefit neurofibromatosis which my son has....<<hint, hint>>...It would be a great goal to strive for for some of you.....Hmmmmmmmmm, NNY is beautiful in the summer and a nice vacation spot for your entire family.....May be a good goal for some of you and a chance to have a "rawunion"...think about it:confused:

Hi Folks!!

I have been reading "Today's Posts" for quite awhile now, but am not very computer savvy, so have never posted anything. I'm going to see how this works. I would really like to do the January exercise challenge. I am going to set reasonable goals for myself because every New Year I make resolutions and never follow through on them. ("Each year I make a list of things that I resolve to do; I'll use that list again this year - it's still as good as new!!!") Anyhow, for the next 30 days, I plan to do 50 situps in the morning before work, bounce on my rebounder at least 200 times and walk on my treadmill for 15 minutes after work and do 10 minutes of yoga or stretching before bed. That's my goal!!! It seems pretty reasonable to me, don't you think!!? I'm going to take it one day at a time and see what happens!!! Now, when you join the challenge, do you have to post every day? If so, I will try. I'm also going to try to do the 30-day raw food challenge too, but that seems a bit more difficult to me. Good luck to all of you who are going to try to start the New Year off on the right foot! Happy New Year - may 2008 bring good health, happiness and prosperity to all of you!!! (Now let's see if I can actually send this!!)

AND TODAY'S EXERCISE IS: DRUM ROLL PULEASE!

this morning, in about 30 minutes i am going to do my one hour jazzercise dvd (includes aerobics and toning)

and this afternoon before my kids friends come over for a mini new year's eve party: 30 minute jazzercise dvd and/or 30 minutes of pilates

now, will i get to do this much exercise every day? probably not. but the days i have time i am going to push that envelope! i wish i lived closer to the gym. my agency i work for gets a corporate rate at the one that is about 40 minutes from where i live. but, after work i have to go get my kids and before work, i have to bring them to school and cannot get them there too early. *sigh* so i cannot go to that gym. there is one in town here... it is a turn key operation. maybe i should look into that one.

what about everyone else? what are YOU going to do to move YOUR body today?

Started my 12 week committment today (why 12 weeks? - 1) it is only 3 months and I feel it will take that time to train my body into my goals 2) I am using the same time frame as body for life ). Anyway...
today I did 40 minutes on the treadmill (5 warm up and cool down) and 30 minutes at 3.5 mph of brisk walking. It went well except my left knee really felt like giving out a bit - worries me a little because 'something' always messes me up with exercise! Have a really good day everyone!:)

I'm in, it doesn't sound like much but my goal at first is 20 min on the ellipictal a day everyday this year-and I will add as I adjust.. I'm a full time mother and wife, a daycare provider who works 6-4:30 M-F, and a part time college student who does homework in the evenings after the kids are in bed so that I don't miss out on their day-needless to say I don't get to bed as early as I should - rarely before 11:30 or 12 so....starting out getting up 20 min early will be a struggle, but I know I can adjust and do it! I have a feeling that I'll find the time-and let go of the useless things that currently take up my "free" time.

It's not much - but it's a start!

Wow nfracer,
you are really motivating. After reading your words I couldn't say no to the Fitness 2008 Rawsolution. I would like to run a 10 km race this year. No idea where and when but I will do.
I stopped training and making any kind of sport this year (due to growing raw business and no time (well must have been an excuse)). I went for a walk today and felt great. (Sorry for my english, not really my mother language).

I did Alissa Teacher Training last year in London and am so happy since then. My rawsolutions for this year are:
- Juice feast
- 100% raw
- a "uncooking" book
- 10 km race
- organising a raw event

Quite a lot but I am sure I will reach my goals.
Wish you all a very very happy New Year

I am excited to finally return to exercise for January. I plan to start January 1st (tomorrow) with a yoga workshop. I plan to do yoga 3 times a week and gymnastics once a week. I also want to do an hour of a light to moderate cardio type activity 4-7 days a week. It has to be something fun..it could be ice skating or a good yoga dvd.
I have found that when exercise is fun, I stick with it. I don't like to go to the gym and lift weights and use the stair climber like it's a chore. It's so easy to make excuses then. My goal is to exercise most days of the week and try to be more active in general.
I used to exercise consistently for at least a whole year, then this past year I haven't done well due to stress and not having any memberships. January is going to finally be my return to exercising again!

Count me in!
With FM, & how heavy I still am, I'm limited in what I can do for any length of time, but I love whoever's goal that was of doing some form of exercise EVERY day, that's exactly what I need to do!
So that's my main goal...been a bit of slug lately, I confess...

...I have a makeshift home gym of sorts, & I'll be walking when possible...

...Also, as I wrote earlier, I'll be pushing myself extra hard on Tuesdays, when I watch Biggest Loser (that'll be my extra workout day) & will add another day to that as soon as I can handle that & not need to go slower on Wednesdays because of it...

Basically, my goal is to develop {& then increase!} my cardiovascular fitness this year, so that by the summer, I can get out & do things with my daughter (& handle the heat better, couldn't at ALL last summer!) & by the end of the year {or sooner!}, I can exercise an hour straight!!!
WOOOHOOO! CAN'T WEIGHT!!!!!

Count me in! I'm so excited! I joined a gym today that's right on my way home from work. I also signed up for twelve sessions with a personal trainer (merry Christmas to me!) to keep me pushing hard. I was an athlete in college, so I know my way around a gym, but I knew I had a better chance of showing up if I had someone checking on me! Plus, I too have been watching Biggest Loser (and wishing I could tell them to put down the portion controlled turkey and eat RAW!) and I love how motivating those trainers are. I'll keep you guys posted! Woohoo!

i do need to buy a juicer and a bigger food processor. eventually i will invest in a dehydrator. but i am doing the best i can with what i have and maybe i can use some tax return money to get some of these things next month.

happy exercising!
nf, let me know more about that race. you can email me at mboyea2@yahoo.com

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU !!

DAY ONE OF OUR FITNESS CHALLENGE :D

It is 10:00 and I am off to take a quick run before lunch company arrives. I went to bed at 4 so I am abit tired. The night before I had insomnia so I am over tired. I NYE I was up "babysitting" the 49 yr old husband and his son (and his not invited by me Friends,) who are all in there mid 20's. I say Babysitting because being the DD for the evening and being wiser than they, & Raw I do not drink up a storm. I put the girlfriends to bed at 2, they were wasted. Sad to see them this way. I wake up and see someone was sick over my balcony..and someonw other than me is cleaning it up. They are pathetic.....
They are all sleeping so I am going to run off my Pissed off attitude. I am thinking of waking my DH before I go to tell him one of our lovely guest was on the balcony and they is broken glass, a spilled can of Red Bull (I think they were drinking it with Vodka) and Puke to clean up on the screen door on the porch under the balcony..and have it done when I get back. :mad:

:mad:

so sorry to hear all that RF:mad: I would be so mad too....and I've seen your house (in pics!) gorgeous, but probably notsomuch with a smattering of VOMIT!!!....Do you feel better after the run? I do...my problems are on a much smaller scale....I WISH someone other than me in this house was "raw" or at least took an interest in it....I give up! I just did my foirst day of training but feel like the day is over after sleeping in...It's almost 1 and I am just finished showering? Agghh, this is why I get up at 3....Today I am going to bed EARLY so I can get back in psynch with my routine tomorrow! On a good note. RF, I think of you every day when I use the trainer. Thank you so much!!!! I hope everyone is getting their year off to a great fresh start! I am striving for 100% raw all year!!!!
Happy trails friends!;)

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

I'm so excited about what this new year holds and has to offer. I am determined to dig deeper than ever before. I have listed my goals for the first 15 days. I will tweak this once I include the gym workout again. I would like to train for the half marathon. I need to look it up; I think it is april. I'm not sure that my body will be ready for the challenge.

I've been blessed in this raw journey and I determined to keep that in mind. At the begiining of 2006 I was almost 250...I researched discovered and embarked upon my raw journey in August of 2006 at 213 (though my sister thinks it was 223...I'd have to look at old journals to be sure)...I made it through the first year at 100% raw with some bumps along the way; yet, I toughed it out and had been holding steady at 150. I wanted to get somewhere between 130-140 but then the last few months started doubted everything. One part of me was afraid to lose more weight because I had so much attention on me. I went through a real mind trip (seeing your body go from 16/18's to 8's) because my emotional self has not caught up with my physical self.

Well, I'll just be quiet for now...yacking way too much. I'll save all these lovely revelations for my blog. I had been contemplating whether I was going to return to it (took a hiatus back in october). I am going to start it up again. I stopped fasting during the holidays because my heart just wasn't in it...allowed all the stress from work and school to control me.

But I'm back and more determined than ever to dig DEEP. I'm going to celebrate health and a healthier body by whipping it into shape. I don't want any jiggles in June...

nfracer-
that trip sounds like a great idea....i always thinking about how nice it would be for us to pick a location to get together to meet up at

Today is filling out the bills day but I hope to squeeze in some exercise. I just got up about 1:30 pm from being up so late in the a.m. from a party we went to. I want to rebound but I keep breaking my rebounder. I have just a cheapy and have to keep sewing it back together practically every time I use it. It is frustrating. I have went through 2 cheapys in less than a year's time. I wore out the first one within a few months time. I need a NEEDAK but with my husband not working that won't be anytime soon. So since I am short on time today I will probably do some other tape. I'll check back in later and let you know.

Hey Di - so cool to hear about your news in teaching a class about raw. How about making Alissa's banana crepes. Those are so beautiful and filling! I would also make some walnut taco meat and have romaine lettuce to wrap them in and some fresh salsa. Raw desserts like a raw cheesecake and raw fudge would also be great. If you show people that eating raw is more than just eating carrot sticks you will gain some attention and interest! That was a huge thing for me when I first started eating raw and realized I could still enjoy and eat desserts like RP's brownies. Maybe you could also do a blender full of your favorite smoothie too!:) Let us know how it goes!

I'm in!!

Weight 72 Kilos.
Aim to lose at least 10percent of body weight.

Exercise: Everyday apart from Saturday. 15 minute jog, 15 minutes rebounder, one hour callenetics 3 times a week at home.

One hour work out at the gym three times a week to include, Cadio vascular training 20 minutes, weights 40 minutes.

In addition to this I WILL follow a raw food plan for one month.

So that's the plan. Great to have a space to write our intentions.

So many people I want to respond to.
Firstly, lavendarj-How did you squeak under the radar? I guess I did not realize the transformation you have made! ;) You are awesome and "knowing you" (from the forum anyway:p ) 2008 will be the year you bring your game! Do we get to see pictures of your raw journey too like we have Morn's? I love to view them, they are not only inspiring but......reinforcing I guess for those of us trying to be raw in a cooked world!

Secondly, I would love to make my nny area a reunion area for us northeasterners.....and others from wherever. I am "off" in the summer which makes my life more condusive to entertaining....say the word my cyber friends and I will plan a rawunion....of course I will plan it around the time of my race so that you all can participate in it....(can you say fitness goal?)...Saturday August 2, 2008 will be the magic day this year and our first time hosting it as "NF R.A.C.E.R.S." rather than strictly theChildren's Tumor Foundation but I'll describe that more in my blog......what do you say ladies? Hey, Alissa lives in Mass. maybe we can get her to come too!!!! You can make it as inexpensive a vacation as you need to. We own a boat marina so boats or tents even are welcome (who needs a hotel?).....Sorry I am rambling but I am excited to ponder such a thing.

RawFigure, you almost came in '07 (to the race) so I know you'll load up the Baja and come on over....I promise not to vomit on your balcony.... ever.....!!!
OK, enough about the reunion (aka rawunion) I also want to give a shout out to Morn. Happy New Year! Is your rebounder one of those small circular ones like kids use? Do you have a picture? I may be able to scrounge one up for you....I have my connections you know;)
Also, welcome back workout buddies that have "been to our gym" before and those who are new too! This is going to be a great '08!!!!! Get psyched and get going....I am going to look for some coaching words of wisdom to get everyone going here...."I'll be back" (as arnold s. would say!!!:eek: )

BTW-here are the fitness buffs for '08!!!

O.K.,,,,,,,drum roll....In true coaching fashion I give you some quotes of inspiration for January...... I could not decide on just one so thought I'd list several and YOU can decide which one speaks to you! I found the "perfect" one for me and plugged it into my signature line (suits me doesn't it?)

Find one that suits you and plug it into your sig. line if you want to! or right it on an index card placed in a prominent location....whatever works for you!

Oh, golly, dragging my feet......... actually, this thread really helped me before to be more diligent with exercise, so I'm jumping in.

I'm going easy on myself and starting off with only half-hour a day to get started. That's feasible for me 'til I build up some momentum for more gumption.

I'm already good today. I had a wonderful walk with my dog up, up, up a hill around a lake in beautiful Oregon.

Thanks for the inspiration!

i'm in. all i had to do was read NFracer's posts, and i was ready to get up from my desk at work and run a marathon!

i will be employing raw foods, ashtanga yoga, kettlebells, my beloved fitball, bodyweight exercises, youtube vids, and anything else i can think of and enjoy to sculpt my body beautiful in 2008.

i'm 37 years old, a busy working mom, partners in a concierge business, and i work 60+hours per week NOT INCLUDING time spent parenting my fabulously energetic 4 year old daughter. i am 5'10 started 2007 as a size 16-pushing-18, found raw in july, started exercising fairly consistently in september, and ended 2007 a size 10--back in my pre-pregnancy jeans and with the beginnings of (gasp) abdominal definition.

i am going for it big time in 2008!

my goals: bikini-fit, size 8 or less, toned, strong-flexible-active-healthy, and NO MORE SISSY PUSHUPS, damnit!!!!

Hi there

NF, add me to the list please.

I had a rotton december with lots of migranes and then a flu type bug followed by an indulgent christmas but i did have lots of fruit and green smoothies throughout.

I had 2 weeks of no exercise at all but am now back on track running and have entered the Shakespere Marathon on 27th April so need to get up to speed quickly. My master plan to achieve this includes 3 things:

1 - Good quality training runs
2 - Green smoothies
3 - Wheatgrass Juice

My initial aims for this year are:

Increase the raw % of my diet to at least 80%
Run 5 times per week plus 2 x-training activities with 1 or 2 rest days
Write down my goals and go for them - small ones like getting up at a regular time in the morning, growing more of my own veggies and just not wasting my days.
Continue not drinking alcohol (2.5 months now)
GIVE UP SMOKING
Do something to stimulate my brain EVERY day - improve my spanish/french, take up a new hobby etc.

I always think that a healthy mind and healthy body go together, one seems to stimulate the other. So far the healthy body is more advanced than the healthy mind so I need to address that :)

Have a healthy happy 2008 everyone, Denise

Di....I came back from my run, did some gym work and the boys cleaned my screen. I was gracious but firm that it is not acceptable to come stay, bring friends, than act so irresponsible, they hung their heads in appropriate shame.
Also YES I want to come this year..I need to know the date as soon as you know it so I can get it on the Calander. I mentioned a few time to DH that we need to take the Baja on a road trip to your Marina ! :D

Count me in! I have always been pretty good about exercise, consistent 5-6 days a week. I completed my first sprint triahtlon in October and was so proud of myself. My goal for 2008 is to complete 3-4 triathlons this year and do better each time (I'm not the fastest swimmer, biker, or runner!) And to look and FEEL better while doing them....I know at 40-50 # lighter, I have to feel better ! It is all about comitting to time for yourself!....and sometimes the only time availbale is 5:30 am! Hi! I'm new here but have been trying to get my hands on any and all information about raw eating that I can in the past few weeks. I have been dabbling a little in the way of life for a few months now, but i guess i had been too chicken to give it a true chance. I am finally ready! I also am trying to commit myself to a daily fitness routine. So i think you guys would be the best motivation for me! :) So if its possible, could you please add me to the list as well?

My goals are: I plan to eat raw, 100% for the next 30 days (that's my way of cheating my brain into thinking its temporary when in fact i really want to make this a lifestyle change FOREVER!!) and plan to do at least an hour of some form of exercise every day. I usually do Amy Bento or old The Firm tapes mixed with Tae Bo and Turbo Jam but have recently discovered Kettlebell training and am so hooked on it that i'll definitely be fitting that in somewhere too!

OK i could type forever here but figure one step at a time! I'm looking forward to being a regular participant here! Happy New Raw Year to all!

My Jan 1 workout -- 30 minutes rebounder. And that is with a tummy ache. . .I watched the clock continuously, but I did it -- the whole 30 minutes, which right now, says a lot for me.

It was weird, I was committed to start exercising and doing 100% raw (which I'm proud to say, I've done three days in a row now), but I was putting off the exercise (pure laziness), then last night about 8pm I realized it was Jan 1st. and I had to get busy! So I did.

Now it is Jan 2nd and way too early for me to be up, but I can not sleep. I don't like this, I'd prefer my nice warm bed to this cold computer chair. My hands tend to freeze while typing and mousing.

Anyway, Good Morning to the world. Happy Day!

Day 2 Whoo Hoooo!! Plan for today is to try to get to the gym for a spinning class which I've always wanted to do. If the littles permit ~ we will go this afternoon. If not, I'll wait for dh to get home and go into the basement for either a Firm tape or treadmill/total gym combo again. Last time I did the Firm I was so sore the next day (but I think that is because I ate cooked :o ) So, since I'm going to be 30 days raw (at least) soreness shouldn't be an issue.

well,i cannot lie. day 1 did not go as well as i had all planned out. but it was not as bad as i have been lately. i ended up with a killer migraine and did not do any more exercise than about an hour of shoveling really heavy ice filled snow. i did great with eating all day til dinner. after taking a nap i woke up groggy and hungry and ate the wrong stuff. but i am NOT giving up. this is day 2 and i am going to do this. i have to.

i need to remember what i hope to accomplish here:
get to goal weight so i can rid myself of back and leg pain from carrying around this darn weight
stop being so tired all of the time
get my borderline cholesterol down
set a good example for my children

the list goes on and on

i am not giving up.

so i figure, doing things in "30" day clumps, that mine will begin today through feb 1st then feb 2nd through... you get the picture.
when i post my exercise i am going to post my food as well if that is ok. i really want to post on THIS thread but don't really have time to post on this one plus another one for my food,etc.. So i will stay right here if that is ok.

i will be back at the end of today with how my day went.

We are here for you! Post away!

Many of us have been raw for a couple of years and it takes a lot of trial and error to make it a habit (believe ME!!!) so just take each day, each meal each exercise session as a chance to gain optimal health. That's really what it's all about. Being raw and "in shape" is a process to be seen as a whole. Even if you skip a workout or eat the wrong thing, when you look at the "big picture" is your health better off now than before? Yes, that's what we are striving for---optimal health baby! Good luck and have a great day!

January 1st exercise: 30 minutes on the elliptical machine at the gym
40 minute walk with my dog

I was clearing out an old journal to reuse, and I had written in an elliptical workout from December of 2006. Since then, my rate of strides per minute has more than doubled! And that is without really exercising (other than walking and the occasional DVD workout) for over a year! I was floored. Amazing what raw can do! The workout felt great, and I was smiling the whole way through. Can it be that I might actually use this gym membership? Yes!!

Did 30 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill (up to 3.5 miles per hour) + 5 warm up and cool down = 40 minutes/ 2.13 miles. I am getting this darned pain in my right upper quadrant with exercise lately. It is ALWAYS something! I really don't understand it but at least I keep going (like the energizer bunny???). Anway...day number 2 of my training plan. Feels real good to be able to move again - alot better now since I released 50 pounds. Have 20 more to let go. Have a great day everyone!:)

Count me in. I'm following a Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer. I bought this book 2 years ago and I'm going to do it this year. A 16 week program. I'm scared and excited at the same time. Will I run a marathon after I'm done with training?? I don't know. The little devil on my shoulder tried for 2 hours today not to let me run, but I did. Also I will be doing Yoga 3-4 times a week and weight training 2x a week. Ran 3 miles on Monday and 4 today.

NRacer - please add me to your list ... "Starborne"

Yesterday I did some gentle bouncing on my rebounder of about an hr. with a few floor exercises. I also ordered a workout book and intend to join a gym within the next few weeks.

Today I *was* going for a walk, but for me it's too darn cold (26 degrees plus windchill factor), so it will be back on the rebounder again.

Happy New Year everyone and here's to our health.

whoooops.... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/blush-2.gif ... right off the bat and I've missed roll call todays in a row!! (GASP!) sorry!!

okay - yesterday was day one of january -- starting off with a confession already -- I slept ALL DAY... literally - well - mostly ALL DAY. I'm not sure what was going on with my body - but I was sooo exhausted that while I had the time to indulge - I decided to just give my body what it wanted and that was sleep...

I did get up and fix some staples - onion bread, eggless egg salad - then went back to sleep... (very unlike me btw.)

Day numba 2 -- I set the alarm to get started early -- only to find it raining so I couldn't walk. It's clear now - so if the weather holds I will do my walking when I get off work this evening. (I do prefer walking first thing in the morning - but -- I will do it tonight ... cuz welll.... I got ya'll checkin in on me!!)

okay... I'll check in tonight ...

There is a half marathon in our area April 6 at 7 a.m.

I wonder if a total beginner who doesn't even like to run can do this. I wonder if I still have enough time to train.....

What do you think nfracer and all the other daily runners?

Did 30 min. of gentle bouncing on the rebounder at 8:00 pm. I've had some heart palpatations for a couple of weeks now and it started up again tonight so I didn't wish to push too hard. Still, I didn't want to NOT do something.

I'm guessing the palpatations are from detoxing from coffee.

Day two and I went to the gym again! This is awesome! I didn't really feel like going, but I did. Did 25 minutes on the elliptical and then 6 minutes on the erg. It felt good to be rowing again, though 6 minutes was plenty! The elliptical was not as joyous as yesterday; my calves were really sore, and I had a lot less energy on 5 hours of sleep than I did on 11! But I'm so proud of myself for going! It was way more crowded than yesterday, but there were still plenty of machines available, so that's a really good sign. I go at one of the busiest times of the day, and if I was gonna have to stand around and wait for a free spot, it wasn't going to work. I still haven't ventured into the weight machines yet, but I'm planning to do an upper body circuit tomorrow because I think my legs will be really sore. When I got home I walked my dog for 40 minutes, and I am now crashed out on the couch. But yay me!

ugghh... I worked till past dark -- and I live in a very rural area -- no street lights so -- I cannot walk in the dark. So instead I walked up and down the neighbors stairs (they thought I was nuts - actually came outside to see if I needed anything -- heheheheeee!!!) :D

so -- I'm not sure how many steps that is - I should'a counted - but he lives in a very tall warehouse - top floor so -- I walked up and down -- up and down... whew... I really didn't think it would be that tiring!! I counted up and down as one trip -- and I did it 10 times... not sure how smart that was cuz now my knees hurt!! :eek:

I'm gunna be taking an epsom salt bath b4 I go to bed - so I'm sure I'll be fine tomorrow! Hopefully it won't be raining so that I can walk early in the morning. It has to be timed just right... Early enough so that there is enough light that any cars can see me (no sidewalks) -- and I can still get home in time to shower and get to work --- But not tooo early so I miss the wild boars roaming around (they are very big, scary and dangerous -- they have HUGE TUSKS! :eek: ) and they feed on the wild fruit and macadamia nuts just after sunrise (which is when I like to walk!)

okay... yipppeee!! I'm a good girl! http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/36_1_33.gif

Sorry for the crassness, it's early. I will post more later but need to run as I am 1/2 hour behind schedule......maybe we will have a "delay" at school due to the bitter temps? one can only hope! Am I allowed to PRAY for that :rolleyes: ok, whatever will be will be!

Just wanted to check in and say "so far, so good". Sometimes I set my goals too high and then get frustrated when I don't follow through. This year I set reasonable goals for myself and so far, I've followed through on them.....50 sit ups in the morning before work, 500 bounces on my rebounder and 15 minutes on the treadmill after work and 10 minutes of stretching or yoga before bed. At least it's a start. I'm hoping to increase everything as time goes on. Good luck to all of you, too!!! Have a good day!!;)

* Tabata drills are a conditioning protocol developed by Japanese researcher Dr. Izumi Tabata. His studies showed that performing 20 seconds of max effort (100% work level) followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times was an extremely productive method for increasing both aerobic and anaerobic fitness. In a six week study of athletes, these intervals done 5 days per week increased aerobic capacity by 14 percent and anaerobic capacity by 28 percent, the highest rate of increase ever reported in exercise science. This is with only 20 minutes of exercise a day including a 10 min warmup and 5 minute cool down. http://www.cbass.com/FATBURN.HTM

Jan 1-30 minutes on elliptical
Jan 2-walked for four hours downtown, 30 minutes on elliptical
Jan 3-30 minutes elliptical, 30 minutes kickboxing, 30 minutes total trainer machine (you use your own body as weight and do strength training

I'm blown away by what you do. I'm a teacher on call and can't imagine teaching full time, being married and raising kids and fitting in a workout. Nor can I fathom waking up when you do. You are an inspiration.

This is a pretty decent sized fitness group! I am soooo excited! Let's keep it going PLEASE! Is everyone doing ok? any problems? I just heard/learned that you need to do something consistently at least 30x for it to become habit and actually wired into your brain. That being said, make exercise a time habit first and then worry about "what" you're doing once it's a well established habit. So, like I began years ago ('99) start by walking for x # minutes-say 30....then throw in some jogging here and there,,,then after your "habit" is formed increase your time and activity level gradually.....If you have specific questions or problems and want to e-mail me you can...But, we're all "friends" here so any question you may have is probably something someone else wants to know too! Happy workouts!
After school today I took my frozen butt to the gym and swam (as scheduled!!!) my mile! The pool was fine, the outside air...bitter!

Hey Hey Hey

So far I have done 20 minutes of intense cardio and strenth. I don't know about the half marathon in April...I'd like to try. I am cleansing right now...so my calorie intake is limited but I think it's important for me to build my strengtrh anyway. I'm changing my goals for the first 15 days. For my cardio, I switched from tae bo to doing some other things and for strength I'm sticking with the barbells, medicine ball, stability ball and body bar. Newly tweaked goals in my signature. Oh, I'm keeping the pilates. I never knew how hard jumping over a box could be. I'm hoping that by changing my exercises I will build strength and stamina and can continue on from there to start training for the half marathon. I will be disappointed if I am not able to do this in April...I'm not a runner but for some reason I want to challenge myself just to see if I've got the stuff for this.....

Keep it RAWKIN'

I am planning on doing my triathlons in the Sarasota and St Petersburg Fl area. ...my back yard. There are 2 in Ft Desoto, FL one in aug and another in October and then 2 more on Siesta Key beach (sarasota) one in June and then the other I think in September. These are all sprint tri's .25-.6 mile swim, 10-14mile bike and 3-4 mile run. I don't think I'm ready for the longer distances yet......

As far as my training schedule.... I usually bike(45-75min) and run (20-40 min) 2 days a week; weight train and swim (30-45 min) 2 days a week, and then I usually bike and or run an additional day of the week. And then I do an hour of yoga 3 days a week....and that really makes a difference for me to making it through the next workout. And then I actually rest for 1 full day.

The training book that I used was "Triathlon training in 4 hours a week From beginner to Finish line in just 6 weeks" by Eric Harr. It was very do-able for me and my schedule. And I really geared my training in just 6 weeks before the event, so it is possible for the sprint distances.

They are fun and I did feel like I had accomplished A LOT! I can see how you would want to do more!

Happy traithlon training....even in that cold NY weather!

Today will be rebounder only then tomorrow when I have a kid free day Im going to the gym/swimming pool...I havent been for 2 months cos of all the detox/sickness I went through, then the kids got ill, then it was Christmas etc, etc. Ive really missed it & I cant wait for all the kids to get back to school at the end of next week so I can start my regular gym visits & aqua aerobics again ;)

Day 3 for Me -- outside at 11pm to walk in the cold, once around the block, 10 minutes, then inside and rebounded for 20 minutes.

And it is all my husband's fault. I keep forgetting to exercise and as I am ready to crawl in bed, he reminds and encourages me. He is even really supporting my 100% raw this time around. We have had our differening opinions. As I was rereading all of my past printouts (3 years worth) I was reconvinced how I really needed to be 100%, yet I was torn as to how to make this work for our family, whom I had started cooking for again. He saw the anguish in me and he suggested we do it as a family -- as long as he had the freedom to go get a burger when needed. And as long as I served food in the whole form, no mashed up, mixed up stuff for him. I was shocked and am wondering how long he will last. No, he is not and does not plan to be 100%, but that's okay with me -- everylittle bit helps!

Have a great day everyone!

~Anastazia in Canada~

Well, so far so good!

I've been moving more every day, (though had a high-pain-level day on day 2, had to really pace myself & lay down a few times...)

...& I just remembered last night that the Biggest Loser Australia is on every Thursday, so that has also now become another extra workout, push myself a little harder day!

Anyone else get to see it, & care to join me?:)

I didn't exercise yesterday because my calves were hurting like crazy and I couldn't think of anything to do that wouldn't make them worse. I'm PMSing, and that is making me really worn out, so I took a day off. But I'm back today, and will go to the gym tonight on the way home from work. I'm thinking 5 minute warmup on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the stairclimber, and 5 minutes on the erg. I'm going to also try to do at least one set on a weight machine, just to get over my intimidation issue with the weight machines. I will try the chest press if it's free. I'm really hoping the gym will contact me soon about scheduling the appointments with my personal trainer. I want to be on an actual program.

That is so cool about your DH supporting you! I made Rawvolution's harvest corn chowder yesterday that I thought was great and my DH wouldn't even try one bite. Too many raw recipes in the past that he tried that he didn't like so now he won't eat anything I make.:mad: Oh well! Raw is a lonely road in my house too!

OK today I worked out at the gym and did a 1 hour strictly strength class. I got talked into doing it (and I know I needed it but OMG I don't know if I will be able to walk tomorrow).:eek: My legs are so sore! We did so many squats and lunges with weights that my legs were shaking! Anyway it was part of trying to follow my new Year's resolution of doing more weight training classes. I am a weakling! Anyway not a lot of fun today but hopefully my body will be burning some extra calories today.

I too live in a SAD household....Well, not as SAD as most but :( nonetheless....my dh is supportive to an extent but is concerned I am spending too much $ "just for me".....I am trying to get across that the most $ is spent trying to do "both worlds"....you know the story....So my kitchen is a mixed bag with "my area" (dehydrator, blender, fp, juicer in the cupboard, etc...) and "their's" (oven, microwave, toaster, etc...) It's a stand off battle I am sick of fighting so I live in my :p happy li'l raw world and they in theirs.....but I empathize with and understand the feelings of isolation.....

but enough of that....on to the coaching side of me...
I am so blown away and impressed with the number of workout buddies we have here in the rawsome cyber gym! very impressive and exciting! There are so many I need to re-list everyone to be sure I have included you and check to see who is checking in often......Congratulations to ALL of you that have been posting your awesome workouts (love the variety!!!).....and for those of you that are slacking.....

sorry that i have been MIA for a few days. i have been struggling a bit and thinking a LOT. for me, part of the problem is old tapes in my head, and i have talked of this on other threads as well as i see many of us have, in the past, had very severe eating disorders. i was what they call "bulimarexic" for many years into my late 20's and up to probably 30. i was starve myself down to my goal weight then binge and purge my way back up as i would get so hungry from restricting for so long. been a constant pattern for me. my highest weight was 290 and i had gotten last year down to 190's and well on my way to goal. HOWEVER, i did it by restricting a lot and of course, once i got too hungry and started eating again could not stop. i have eaten my way to where i am now and i know it must stop.

what i have learned through thinking is that i do need boundaries with eating. i don't know how much i should have. and i have been fighting with the mentality of thinking i have to lose it all RIGHT NOW and wanting to restrict. so i have been back and forth with restricting and then overeating. but this has been life and i am not sure how to not be so black and white. so..... i have been tossing the idea around of doing high raw (and moving towards 100%) while doing WW. now, before you scoff, i do this because it will give me the boundaries i need and a guide of accountability of how much to eat. then i know i won't be restricting too much or eating too much. it is based on my current body weight and my desire to lose and as i lose weight the amount i can have obviously gets less because the less you weigh the less you need to eat. i feel ok with this decision. i feel it will help me to get to goal and to maintain it. something i have never done my entire life.

so i start on monday and with it will come my exercising again. i am away all this weekend to a hockey tournament and don't plan to pig out or anything so don't worry! but will be very busy. that is the ONLY reason why i picked monday as a start date. also, nf, my "bf" has agreed to do this race in august! i am emailing him the info and i hope he has that weekend available. he is a runner, i will be walking it. but we plan to make a long weekend out of it and get a hotel there. where would the closest place be for him to fly into?

so anyway, that is where i am and where i have been. thanks for listening, or reading :o

Nfracer - and any other of you wonderful movers out there - I was reading in my Beginner's running book that one should not run with cotton on because it does not wick away the moisture. I ordered a couple of running magazines to order clothes from and lo and behold - cotton in many of the garments! Just wondered what your comments might be on this and any recommendations for clothing (at this point it will be inside on the treadmill only).

Can you tell I am trying to get prepared and am siked to do this! The body just has to cooperate.... ;)

Michelle - If WW helps you with portion control and figuring out how much you should eat for a while thats great. However, if you would commit to 100% raw diet for a while I think you would be surprised at how much you don't have to worry about how much you can eat and still lose weight. I eat large portions of food - My salad bowls are huge! Also when I juice or have smoothies I drink a very large cup. The key really is learning how to listen to our bodies and what they need and eat healthy. I try to eat when I am truely hungry and stop when I am satisfied. I also eat several small snacks a day. I will never knock WW - I successfully lost weight several years ago on that diet. However, I found that it takes a lot of time tracking all of that and there is a freedom in not having to do that with eating raw. Now I am not 100% but I try to stay as close to it as possible and for me it is primarily due to me guarding against losing self control when I eat certain foods. When I eat all raw foods I generally don't overeat and I have energy after I eat instead of wanting to go to sleep. I used to be so letharic I needed to sleep 10-12 hours a day and still wanted to nap when I was awake. So for me raw foods has really changed my life and I can truely live my life and push myself to accomplish my goals.

But whatever it is you choose to do is up to you. Remember this is YOUR journey and you will learn what is right or wrong for you. I call it learning by trial and error. Do what works and adjust over time what doesn't. But the main thing is keep on keeping on! I also like that you are opening up yourself for accountability. I know this will help you. Check in with us daily if you can even on your bad days (and don't go MIA). We are here to encourage one another. We all have times of defeat but sooner or later the wins become more and more and will help you build up the momentum you need to ultimately succeed. We will be here to help you celebrate those tiny victories and help you focus on those. It is a moment by moment, meal by meal battle sometimes and in building all things that will ultimately last will take time. We are here for you!:) Ok - enough said:)

My ability to move my body seems to be improving a little each day...I don't feel like I always want to sit, but WANT to be on my feet more!

Read Nfracer's blog early this morning, & was so in awe at how she gently but firmly pushed herself, climbing the mountains in her way! It sooo motivated me to set concrete goals, & to push myself harder, FM or not!!!

So today, after working on the house lots, (been too busy to keep up lately!)
I'm going for a walk, for as long as I can!!!:D

I know to all you runners out there, & those who get outa the house daily, that's really not a big deal, but to me, it really is...

I've been telling myself I'll get on a walking program for YEARS, but have been so sporatic...& embarrassed when the neighbours see me, I confess...& I've always been too tired & sore to push myself to get dressed, ready & just go! But i have more energy daily, & it's time!

I've been isolated by my obesity & health issues for too long! I'm leavin' my hibernation cave, snow on the ground or not!

Also, am LOVING using the rebounder, read somewhere that, to benefit (drain?) your lymphatic system, once an hour for 2 minutes (at least!) is ideal! So that's been what I've been doing, I just leave it in the middle of my livingroom floor, if someone comes over, I put it up, but otherwise, I step on it every time the hour starts...& often when I walk by, as well~

Fitness really does need to be a lifestyle, doesn't it?
Not just an hour a day, but all the little choices we make during the day!

I know they all add up! I want to learn to LIVE like a FIT person! Never have known how, need to learn more now, to incorporate it into my changing lifestyle!
(A little embarrassing to ask, but I know ya won't judge me for it!:o )

Any tips you can share, all you fit people out there?

This is an AWESOME list ! WELCOME EVERYONE.

I got a few Step Cardio DVD's today. When I moved I ditched the VCR and gave my tapes away, and for 6 months I have a flatscreen with a built in DVD in it on the Wall in my Cardio room. I have MISSED my Step Aerobics (and I also used to rebound to Step Tapes too...:p ) and my legs always look the best when I am stepping 3-4 times a week. Yeah..got gone headache so I can work out on my step tomorrow...how odd...to get EXCITED over some DVD's. wahoo.....:D

Finally, I did it. After a few days laziness I went on my rebounder tonight and did 10 min, afterwards some 20 minutes Turbo jam and aerobic (with youtube, but its is better than nothing) - just enough to sweat a bit.
Well it could be better but running is not possible at the moment as it's raining the whole day. Will see what I can do the next weeks. I will be on holiday, beach, sun and lots of tropical fruits. If this doesn't motivate me I don't what could motivate me then. Hope to get fitter the next days.
Welcome to all rawsolutioners on the list.

Thanks for your prayers today! I just made a carrot, spinach, beet & apple smoothie so now I have an over abundance of energy. I think I will do a little of something. You are right I will feel better if I do some stretching and something to sweat the toxins out of me from being in that bar last night with all the cigarette smoke. I got so sick last night from it (migraine, etc.) I thought I was going to die.

Wow what a post. You go girl! I am proud of you that you are going for a walk today. All I can tell you is when I started I weighed 95 pounds more than what I do right now and it was really hard for me to do any kind of exercising so I know how you feel. Little by little I just added in a little more. (Increase of time, reps, etc.). So I think that is great. Start off walking for X amount of time or distance and then add a little more week by week. Same with rebounding. Do 2 minutes now and next week do 3 minutes. The main thing is be consistent with it. Set reasonable goals that you know you can definately do and do it. Don't let things get in the way of it. Like Di did! Go after what you want and you will achieve it. When I first started exercising I started off slowly but consistently I did it. So I think you are on the right track. Anyway I am proud of you!:D

Unfortunately, cotton is not good as it traps the moisture close to your body. You need something with "coolmax" or a moisture whicking fabric that pulls moisture out away from your skin. This goes for bras, shorts, tops, pants,etc...anything that touches your skin! Trust me, chafing from moisture is NOT FUN nor pretty. I've seen many men cross finish lines with bleeding nipples:eek: Pay a little more for the coolmax, it's worth it!

Anastazia- I recently heard habits are formed at the automatic level with about 30 repetitions....Do you think about brushing your teeth in the a.m. or is it automatic? Exercise is the SAME thing. Make a time that no matter what you will have 30 minutes (in the beginning) to devote to exercise.....say, 7 a.m. or whenever is good for you....Start by MOVING....walking, rebounding, whatever. Consider it a 30 day fitness challenge just as you do with raw food eating.....You will soon notice that your body is getting used to it and you will be either able (willing) to increase the time or the intensity....Believe it or not that is exactly how I started...Eventually I started running out of boredom! So, forget about what the neighbors think. Get out the door and get going....After all, if they are watching you out their window that means they are inside doing NOTHING and probably a little more envious than you think! Try it for a month....Make the initial committment and your body will do the rest!!! Good luck!

Thanks, morn, that helps, a LOT! My biggest struggle is consistancy, with having a bad FM day, then feeling better, overdoing it, & not doing it again for weeks! (Or, LOL, months!)

It's so amazing to have someone be PROUD of me! Thanks! I've felt like such a dissapointment to those who are concerned about me, (especially my daughter) but lately, they've been seeing my determination, & I can tell are waiting to see if I follow through this time, longer than a month or 2...

...& yes, I'm beginning to see that goal-setting & tracking my progress is going to be the key to FINALLY learning consistancy! I've been such a 'live-in-the-moment' person, & in many ways, that's a blessing, & benifits my life, but when it comes to fitness, it ain't workin'!

Guess what??? I just went for my walk!!! & it was wonderful!!! I thought I could barely make it halfway down the block, (it's a looong one!), based on my last attempt to walk anywhere) but found a place to sit a bit & catch my breath, & pushed myself to go to the end of the block! & back, of course!!! & it felt soooo good! The sun was shining, the wind was blowing, the neighbours were out taking down there lights, {"Look! Someone DOES live there! She DOES leave the house!!!"}, I even let Hannah ride her new bike she just got for her birthday, even though she couldn't find her helmet, so i could walk & think, sing, pray, like I always used to! (& watch for cars, of course!)
I gotta confess, what spurred me on was thinking about coming back & sharing it with y'all here!!!:D
Gotta go jump on the rebounder now, then make lunch! Then go for another walk!!! 2 or 3 a day is my plan, when it's a walking day!

I did go to the gym yesterday, and spent 30 minutes on the stairclimber and 6 on the erg. Then I got home and walked my dog for 30 minutes. I also got a super intense deep tissue massage from an amazing lady. I'm hoping that working with her will erase all my shoulder/neck pain, and we definitely got off to a good start. Came home and iced it, but it's still crazy sore today. I didn't go to the gym today, but I did take my dog on a long walk, which we both enjoyed. I've got my period at the moment, so I'm feeling a little more sluggish than usual, but I've exercised more this week than I have in years! Go me!

Anastazia, I know what you mean about feeling self conscious around your neighbors when you go out for a walk. I go out with my dog, who is super skinny (he's a whippet--like a smaller greyhound), so that used to make me doubly self-conscious. But I was walking today and saw a neighbor I don't see very often, and I thought to myself that I've lost fifty pounds since the last time I saw her while I was out walking. She must have been thinking that walking really works! So when you walk by those neighbors, it might help to imagine their faces as you shrink before their very eyes every day! You can do it!!

Nfracer, thanks so much for the reminder about making it a HABIT that my body gets USED to! Because of my past inconsistancy with exercise, it always feels like I'm just starting out again, every time I DO ANYTHING physical!

So are you saying if I do it daily, no matter what, that'll change, I'll actually get used to it, & increasing the amount won't be such a struggle? I always want to PUSH once I get moving, but of course, always end up regretting it! So I'm going to set REASONABLE, do-able goals & not LET myself do that to myself again!

Thanks for the reality check on my neighbours...besides, I'm moving at the end of Feb, & will have new neighbours, so who cares what these ones think as I waddle along, right?!!? & by the time I'm in my new neighbourhood, I won't be looking for a place to stop & sit & catch my breath, I'll be swinging my arms & goin', goin', goin'!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...& GOOD FOR YOU, MORN, for doing it anyway!!!! Weigh to go!!! Now YOU'RE inspiring ME again!!! I'll be thinking of that on the days I don't wanna!!
...& thanks for visiting my blog (I don't have the tracker on it, so I'm not sure how many pop in without commenting, maybe no-one (?) but I keep writing it anyways! I figure oneday when I'm slim, healthy & strong, it'll be a good record of the journey~
...& Thanks so much, LavendarJ, for your confidence in my ability to do this! I'm deciding to just forget {& forgive myself for} the times in the past when I let go of my goals, & am holding on to them now, pushing through, one day at a time!
I confess, I'm too sore now to go for another walk, (& it's already dark! My salad took soooo long to make...but it was worth it!!!) but I'm going to have a HOT bath to loosen up my muscles, then do some more rebounding, stretching, & using my hand weights!
I AM an ACTIVE woman!!! (Not quite an athlete, but heading in that direction!)
I did go to the gym yesterday, and spent 30 minutes on the stairclimber and 6 on the erg. Then I got home and walked my dog for 30 minutes. I also got a super intense deep tissue massage from an amazing lady. I'm hoping that working with her will erase all my shoulder/neck pain, and we definitely got off to a good start. Came home and iced it, but it's still crazy sore today. I didn't go to the gym today, but I did take my dog on a long walk, which we both enjoyed. I've got my period at the moment, so I'm feeling a little more sluggish than usual, but I've exercised more this week than I have in years! Go me!
Anastazia, I know what you mean about feeling self conscious around your neighbors when you go out for a walk. I go out with my dog, who is super skinny (he's a whippet--like a smaller greyhound), so that used to make me doubly self-conscious. But I was walking today and saw a neighbor I don't see very often, and I thought to myself that I've lost fifty pounds since the last time I saw her while I was out walking. She must have been thinking that walking really works! So when you walk by those neighbors, it might help to imagine their faces as you shrink before their very eyes every day! You can do it!!
That's the kind of massage I give, not for those who love wimpy, gentle surface ones! Wish I could find someone to massage me like I massage! Anyone who can wanna come visit???:D Do you know my hubby's definition of PMS? Pardon My Screaming! (Or Sobbing!) & also, Pack My Suitcase! {Not sure if he meant his or mine! Lol!}
...& that's a GREAT focus while on my walks, thanks! My first goal then, is to lose enough & shape up enough before I move that even my neighbours notice!!! Which may or may not happen, I'm moving at the end of Feb, & the last time I went raw for a month & a half & dropped 43 lbs, no-one could even tell!!!:( (except in how I was moving better), with so much to lose I suspect it'll take 50, 60, even more before it shows...but oh, well! :rolleyes:
Rest days are sooooooooo difficult for me to follow through on....the workout habit is so ingrained in my head but I KNOW it is very important. Fortunately today is a busy day for me as I will be making my "debut" at the HFS giving a raw food seminar.....gulp....I'm not nervous....gulp:eek: It's my passion though so I'll be fine! I have spent the last 2 days "uncooking" things I don't usually make but I want everyone to be able to sample some good things so they will realize it's not just about apples and carrot sticks!!!!! Wish me luck!:D
I know what you mean it took me losing 50 pounds for anyone to start noticing I was losing weight. I remember how it was pretty discouragaing. But you aren't doing this for anyone but you and remember 40 pounds off your joints and how you look/feel in your clothing will be your prize. Eventually others will notice!
I learned the hard way how important rest days are ! I used to work out none stop all year with maybe one or two rest days a month, never a week off. Over time I started have severe shoulder problems and damaged my right shoulder, low back, neck and knee, foot problems. I was tearing my body down. Now I rest a few days a week but I am still active, never a couch potato ! My husband says I look as good as I did when I was killing myself ( Isay almost as good..lol.) . Rest is important !
Saturday I managed to neglect my excercise and after reading all the last 3 pages, maybe I'll claim it as my rest day.
Sunday, I spent from 3 to 6pm outside picking pecans -- and trust me, that's a workout, just ask my shoulders and back.
Being outside in the warm sunshine (70's) was wonderful.
The thing I am most proud of is I've maintained 100% raw! Yea Me! :D
Yesterday was a rest day for me.....I do always feel like I am missing something important when I don't "exercise". Today I went to Busch Gardens with my 5 and 4 year old boys and we walked for 6 hours. I'm hoping that I get credit for that! Didn't have any non raw snacks while I was there either! Hoping to get back to a regular schedule this week with school and work and work-outs!
Have a great day!
With confidence in yourself you can move mountains. Every one of us has it "in us"....Let this be the year you give it a nudge each day!
The undertones from most people (and this is not meant as a judgement or a bad thing) is a lack of confidence in oneself. I think that somewhere along the way we are raised to be too modest. No longer are we the beaming little kid that says "look what I did!" We shrug off our accomplishments and deny our inner child to boast. I say, shout it from the mountaintops! You can project your successes without being condescending. It has taken me a long time to get to this point but I do allow myself that because dammit I've worked hard to get where I am and if I can lead someone else by example so be it! Maybe by you speaking to someone else you will inspire them....Pass it on...;)
Hello everyone! I've been doing a BFL challenge for 5 weeks and I feel great! I was derailed for a week over the holidays, but I'm back full force! I'm getting lonely on the Body for Life thread and was wondering if I could join in here with my fellow exercising raw foodies?! I feel like I'm talking to myself on the other thread. LOL.
Today I have my LBWO and hopefully a long walk at the park. We are having unseasonably warm weather today and I want to take advantage before it gets freezing again! :)
In the rain:eek: I was supposed to run yesterday, but I layed in bed in a fetal position with period cramps instead:( So this morning I'm all ready to go and it starts freakin' raining:mad: So I'm thinking it's going to be slippery, it's going to be hard to breathe, I'm going to get my brand new shoes wet whaaa whaaa whaaa. Then I said SO WHAT and just went. Also I have two very excited running partners. My heeler/lab mix aka Coconut and my Aussie Russell. What a mess we were when we came back:p But we did it.
You are so right. It is lack of confidence. When I run passed people I think they are looking at my jiggly butt and no make up ugly face. I'm trying not to care and just think at least "I'm doing something about it" but it is still hard when you have been somewhat of a hermit for years.Thanks again for your encouraging words.
So TRUE! We should all take a lesson from any 4 year old out there! My kids would have LOVED to run in the rain....I don't know about 5.4 miles, but they would be talking about that for days!....to anyone who would listen!
One more day off work for me, so I went to the gym this late midmorning and lifted weights for 30 minutes and then swam for 45minutes. I didn't think I would enjoy swimming so much when I started, but I do, especially on sunny days like today, 75 degrees outside and a heated pool....beautiful!
Have a great day!
Went to the gym last night and did the elliptical for 30 minutes, then came home and took my dog on an hour long walk with lots of steep hills. I was thinking as I walked that I used to be someone who barely got 20 minutes of exercise in a week, and now I'm getting between 30 and 90 minutes of exercise a day! And it just sort of happened without my having to fight with myself about it. That is so cool, and so due to raw! Now I'm just waiting to finish my period so some of this exercise starts showing up on the scale!
Hello Friends!
I didn't finish the rest of my cardio last night (I should have done another 20 minutes). I decided to split the routine up because so far I cannot get through the whole 40 minute routine without splitting it up. It's pretty challenging for me. So today is lower body day (did upper body work yesterday)... I will do the other set of cardio exercises tonight after strength training. Oh yeah, need to throw in the pilates.
I've been up since 2-ish (a.m.) I had some bad news yesterday and I've been slouching around. I needed a B in my stats class in order to take the next but didn't make the cut; so now I've got to plead my case to the department and advocate for myself and my passion for social work...but now I'm getting my stuff together and will prepare for my meeting next week and trust that God knows what's best....
In the meantime, let the sweating begin:)
(by the way, I never sweat - at least it is not noticeable..anybody else experience this? I didn't before raw either. I mean it takes about3 :) or 4 hours of serious cardio to really get some sweat going...I just thought this was interesting as sweating is a healthy function of the body)
Hey There Morn!
I could definitely use the prayer. Right now, I took a break from the fast (stopped last night)...I figured it wasn't benefiting me or anyone else to be trying to fast with a negative attitude about this class and finances. But you know what my sister gave me called me from her bible study and gave me a scripture last night (psalms 42:5 I think) and it seemed to be right on time. But your'e right, that defintely makes a difference in why that workout is so hard (fasting).
I know I need to get to the gym but as I dont drive I would have to walk in the wet to get there so i just end up going for a walk outside instead!!!!!!!! Rebounding is getting tedious as a daily exercise so may invest in a step so i can step away whenever i watch tv
All I can say to that is MP3 Player. I know exactly what you mean. I used to be like that. Now I don't think about how heavy or fatigued I am. I just go. One step at a time and I never look too far ahead. Way to overwhelming. I just run in my immediate bubble. Also I run slower now. I just concentrate on the distance not on the time. Hope that helps.
I'm pretty new to raw and am not 100%. Last Thursday I went cold-turkey on giving up caffeine and alcohol. Boy have I had some massive headaches and have been extremely fatigued and lethargic! I just couldn't bring myself to get on the rebounder. I have, however, walked about 45-50 min. for the last two days as the headaaches have let up, and am about to get out again.
I decided a couple of days ago to go ahead and do the Master Cleanse fast as a prelude to going 100% raw... just get some of the major toxins out of my system and get it over with. Plus it's a great way to break any addictions, so I'm assuming that means cooked food too.
So I'm going to stick with walking and maybe some rebounding during that time and build into a more intense workout when I start eating again.
I love reading about all of your activity.
Keep up the great work!
Alyssa
Nowww Giirrllll! This is from one Texan to the other, get that bootee off the couch and get going. I don't know where you are, but here in Dallas it is a gorgeous day that is just calling to get seized. So go for a walk at least.;) it'll do ya good
I am up in nny, not Dallas + I am not sure where you are BDraw but don't MAKE us double team you girl, cuz we will, right Summer12?!
Now, the less pushy side of me would like to say that the fact that you posted for help speaks volumes that you really DO WANT TO DO IT but are too overwhelmed with where to start and how to keep going....So, like I have said before. Make exercise a habit first, something you enjoy. If that means all you are motivated to do is walk around the block once or stretch for 10 minutes that's ok...Just do it at the SAME TIME each day....first thing in the morning is great because it will be DONE + you will be uplifted (pinky swear) for the rest of the day!!!! Now, any questions? Get goin!!!
i think i've been exercising every day since the new year. i'm so proud of myself. :D since i've recently learned about training my aerobic base, i've been doing exactly just that. in the past, it seems that i'd exercise past my aerobic base, ran out of breath super quick, & i was too sad to exercise.
so now it makes sense for me to build up my aerobic base, & i can exercise for a really long time. before i could only run 2mph on the treadmill. now i've passed 4 mph, & i'm really happy about that. before i couldn't run 2 mins. on 2mph w/o feeling like i was going to zonk out. :o
my exercises: running & walking. :D i'd love to incorporate some dancing. martial arts were kind of boring for me. after i build up my aerobic base, i may try that again. ;)
Hey BDraw..
It's just like you say in your signature "baby steps" ..
I'm feeling you (worrying about this SW class has knocked the motivation right out of me) ... but you know what; give yourself a hug and then JUST DO IT...do something. Sometimes we don't have a reason or motivation and you just have to do it....even if you've got to fuss through it, JUST DO IT
So that was yesterday; I only ended up finishing part of my cardio after my strength training yesterday...
It's a brand new day today... let's make it happen!!!!
good luck! i did the MC for 11 days, and I am thankful (and amazed) to have kicked my LONGstanding personally-debilitating addiction to coffee as a direct result. while i might slip up on the 100% raw thing once in a while, i haven't had any coffee (or really any desire for it) since July of 2007, and i consider it a freakin' miracle!
Hi Everyone,
Didn't make it to the gym last night, but I had a bad head/neck ache, so I was okay with not going. Tonight I'm heading back, and then taking my dog for a long walk. I'll be traveling Friday and Saturday, but there's an elliptical machine at the hotel where I'll be staying. I don't think I'll be able to exercise on Friday (have to be at the airport by 6am, and then I have class until 9pm), but I'll fit a workout in on Saturday morning. My scale finally showed some results this morning--woohoo!
I did a one hour total conditioning class this morning. The class gears around keeping you in zone 3 & 4 so it is pretty intense with a mix of cardio, strength training, and tons of squats, lunges and pushups. (My favorite - not!:mad:) I my quads and back of legs are still sore from last Friday's strictly strength class. It was funny how I just started feeling a bit better today where I wasn't in total pain all the time and then within the first set of squats today all the pain came back! We will see how I feel tomorrow but I am sure it will be rough.
i'd like to join this thread. i was always really self conscious about exercising because i'm pretty overweight and in bad shape, but realized last week that nobody cares how fat i am or how red and sweaty i get and if they do, they have their own issues. so i've been going to the gym, sometimes in shorts or stretch pants :eek:
i started almost a week ago, my goal is to move in some way every day but to be more concrete for myself i'm also going to the gym to do the elliptical at least 4-5 days a week. moving is so much easier now that i've been raw for over a month. i want to run a half marathon by november (i've never run before, its a new raw interest for some reason) and am training on the elliptical until i lose enough weight to take some of the strain off of my knees. i've gone 10 miles so far, and will be adding to that tonight :)
NRacer, you've inspired me in so many ways. I read your blog about your accident story. I realized that I, too, need to chart and keep better track of what I do and eat. Yesterday's show of The Biggest Loser had a segment in it about how many calories each contestant was eating. While I know that eating raw doesn't really fall into a typical lifestyle with calorie counting, etc., I still think it's important to realize just what we're doing with both eating and exercise .
Soooo ... (inhale) , I purchased a fitness software program from http://http://www.crosstrainersoftware.com The price is pretty good at $34 and can be downloaded right away. Now I'm busy researching how to use it and I think it will be fun to chart my progress.
Today is day 2 of my MC, and I walked 50 min. around the local lake. Wish I could insert a photo of it, but I don't know how.
nfracer - thank you!
To all runners out there - how the heck do you keep your body up and moving for miles and miles? I cannot even imagine being able to keep upright, move my body, breathe and keep moving! Only 2 minutes and I can barely stand it! Isn't it supposed to get easier? I have not been past 2 minutes for 3 weeks now :( Anyway...how do you keep it moving without getting so darned fatigue and feeling so heavy?
You have to start where you are physically, not where you think you should be or where other people are! some people are gifted with a "runner's" build...I am not. When I started, I couldn't run for 2 minutes without my heart rate going through the roof! So I had to slow down (really I think a quick walker could have past me!) and then alternate walk "run" until I could run a certain amount of time and or a distance. I like training on a treadmill because I know how "fast" I am going and now I can put in intervals of really fast in my reagular pace.. It takes weeks for your body to adjust and make improvements but if you push it little by little you'll get where you want to be!
Big workout day for me today.....up at 5:15 for an hour of yoga and then after work I took the kids to the Y and ran on the treadmill for 30 minute and then biked for 50 minutes...shew! Looking forward to a swim tomorrow!
Have a great day!
I also just found out they will be doubling my hours at work so that will be good since my DH lost his job last month. However, I will be back to working full-time again so it will be a huge adjustment for me and harder to squeeze in my exercise but where there is a will there is a way!
Then I indulged in a wonderful sauna and steam.
Yeah for whatever reason running is hard for me mentally. I think it was because before when I was heavy it was just too much pounding on my joints also I was such a big chested person it was just too much movement for the girls and me. If you know what I mean.:D But I also ran on a flex deck in the gym - not sure if my body could handle hard pavement.
So here we go week 3 and I'm planning on running 19 miles this week. :o Have a good week everbody.
RAWK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are doing awesome, make that RAWSOME! Just look in that mirror and give yourself a smile and a wink! POSITIVE THINKING does wonders! ;)
I was pokey getting started today but finished strong. I rented a movie yesterday to watch while running and it really made the time fly by! I shall do THAT more often!!!! esp. on a Monday!!! I tend to....drag....getting back to the grind!
Sounds to me like many of you are transforming into runners!!!! Yeah! You can do whatever you put your mind to!!!! So, does this mean you will come to nny in August for the 10K race?????? details coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!
i woke up, stretched & ran. ;) i had a little boo-boo w/ my mp3 player though. the speakers i had attached it to couldn't get any louder. so all i heard was my feet thump, thump, thumping on the treadmill. :o
note to self: attach the mp3 player to speakers that can go louder. :D
running while watching a video?! that's a good idea! :eek: i wonder if i can attach my laptop somewhere near the treadmill. hm...
