I used to buy bars that said 'raw' on them or 'all raw ingredients' but they had evaporated cane juice in the ingredients list. What exactly is it? I assume it is not a healthy ingredient.
Also, there are 'raw' bars that have cacao or cocoa 'processed with alkali' which I am not exactly sure what it means, but it doesn't sound raw.
The other term I find confusing is 'natural flavors' as in 'natural berry flavor'. Is that just berries? If it was, wouldn't they just say 'berries'. Or is it just spices that taste like berries?
I find it really weird that companies include these confusing ingredients. If I were making a product to sell to people, I would research all the ingredients and only include things that are the best options available. If there is a such thing as agave or even yacon syrup, then why would anyone use cane juice when the healthier sweeteners taste better too? I guess it's a money thing, but that lowers my respect for a company if they aren't willing to use only the best and healthiest ingredients. I do not like how the labeling usage of the word 'raw' isn't regulated. I know making my own snacks would be best, but sometimes I need something that is convenient.
