Hi all, I am going to try to do 100% Raw for 30 days starting Jan 1st.My problem isnt the no cooked food, its my mood swings.I get depressed and give up, and not care about anything.I was I had some local friends that were raw too, but I dont.Im hoping for a new start this year to finally make the life I want.I have a great job, great boyfriend and 2 great sons, so I should be happy. My weight brings me down, and lack of exercise, I use to be so actve and fit. Before anyone ask, yes I am taking prozac and it has been the best thing that ever happen to me, my life was dark before that.So I just need to get my health in order. How much weight did you all lose in 30 days? Thanks, Pat. oops i posted this in the wrong area.

Hi, I know what you mean about wanting to lose weight, and being depressed. I was on Zoloft and Lexipro, trazadone for years. I finally found bio identical hormones and after 6 months on these skin creams, I was able to ween myself off of the Lexipro and trazadone. I am doing ok, but know that if I could lose this weight my BP would be normal, and I would be happier.
I am just starting out, and did one whole day raw, and was surprised that I didn't get any cravings, and had no hunger at the end of the day.
I am sure once I get into this raw food change full time, things will get much better, mentally and physically.
I get the impression though, that one goes through a "detox", as all the bad stuff leaves your body. You may break out, or feel wierd until you are "clean". Starting the challenge on Jan. 1 sounds like a good plan. Maybe I will jump in there also.
I have a great carnivorous husband who hates vegetables. He thinks I am nuts.. but after reading "Slaughterhouse" I am having a hard time with meat. Yuch! Which is a good thing, as I think meat is bad for us, and have always felt better without it.
It's just this "raw' thing is really difficult to do full time.
I bought a Breville juicer, which has really helped and it's been fun experimenting with different juice combinations. It adds another twist to the raw food. How else would you be able to eat 2 apples, 1 mango, and half a pineapple in one sitting.

I have had the problems with depression but I have never taken any meds for it. Not that I haven't thought about it seriously. My issue is that I don't like to take any kind of meds - not even aspirin when I have a headache. Since I have been eating raw what really helped to get me to a new level and get rid of the depression was green smoothies. After I started drinking the smoothies my whole disposition changed and eating raw foods became a lot easier. Maybe give them a try - it couldn't hurt!;)
GOOD LUCK!

I know exactly how you feel. It can be really difficult sometimes admitting to yourself that you need help. I swear before I changed the way I eat I had gotten so low that I felt totally hopeless. Changing my diet help a great deal and I am serious when I say that when I started on the smoothies a little over a month ago my depression really lifted. Maybe it doesn't make sense but they have really helped me to focus on more constructive things than whatever was making me feel so depressed.

i've been raw since august and i've released over 60 pounds. i seldom, if ever crave cooked foods although it has been tough being around all the christmas food and treats... but i've done very well indeed :D
just remember... take it one meal at a time... don't sweat it, make it yummy and fun. stock your kitchen really well... keep lots of healthy foods handy.
and make some desserts and freeze them... that way, when you get a craving for something yummy, it's just a matter of grabbing something out of the freezer and eating it! mmmm yummy and good for ya!

Before raw, I had severe PMDD, and was on medication for a couple of years. It helped, but I still had several weeks of bad depression each month. I hid it well, but I was downright miserable most of the time. Since going 100% raw, my mood has soared. There have only been one or two days where I felt at all bummed out. For the rest of the time, I've been happier and more consistently content and even excited about life than ever before. It's kind of a miracle.
In terms of weight loss, I lost about 15 pounds my first month. The weight loss has been slower since then, and I've had a few slip ups into cooked food that put weight back on that I lost again as soon as I got back to raw, but I average between 5-10 pounds gone each month.
My advice would be to try raw for a month and see how you feel. I would bet you'll be amazed!

Hello there!
Stay raw and your depression will most likely completely heal or severely diminish. Mine did. My anxiety and panic attacks went away as well.
I lost about ten lbs my first month 100% raw.
Blessings,

I went raw on 8/1/07 and have released 61.9 pounds. In my first month, I released 19, if I remember correctly. The important thing to remember is that everyone is unique. Don't EVER measure yourself by other people's progress, but by your own. 30 days from now, look back and see how far you've come, and celebrate your progress!

I only had 30 pounds I wanted to lose and I lost 15 in the first two months. I'm at 20 total for since September.
But I haven't been 100% the whole time either.
Especially not in the last 3 weeks.... :(

I've stopped weighing myself but when I first went Raw I lost 22lbs within the first 2.5 weeks.
