As I said in another thread I finally found young coconuts at a nearby asian store. I'm definately going to go buy some more tomorrow. I was thinking of buying a case of 9, but how long do they keep for?

I can eat much more of these than mature coconut, I can barely eat half a mature coconut at once, and yesterday I learnt why: They are over 1400 calories per nut! This must be the only nut in the world which by itself is 2 full meals (when mature)! I read a whole young coconut is only 140 calories, but that seems a bit low and it didn't seem to be a very reliable source.

By the way, the young coconuts where only $1.79 Canadian each!

Thanks

I have bought a case before and stretched out my use of them to about 3 weeks. It was torture = I LOVE young coconuts!!!

So long as you keep them refrigerated, and watch for mold on the outside of the husk when buying, you should be fine.

I break all of mine open when I get them (the entire case) and freeze the water and meat to use later. Saves me time later when I want one but don't feel like breaking out the hammer.

Wow nurse inthe Raw... I never thought to do that! interesting!

I'm with Amberstorm, I keep mine in the fridge until Im ready to use them - but I can go thru a dozen young coconuts in a week... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/blush-2.gif I dooooo loove those young coconuts... and you probably cannot find the ones that are sprouted where you are... but if you can ever find a coconut that has sprouted and the sprout is about 12 inches tall... break that open and the inside is filled with a soft cotton-candy goodness that is simply out of this world!!!
