I have strep throat and my doctor is urging me to take the antibiotics he prescribed. I can't explain my aversion to them and I feel quite irrational about it. I really don't want to take them!
On the other hand, my throat is extremely sore and I don't know if I can handle many more days like the last four have been...
Are antibiotics *really* necessary to recover from strep? What are the dangers of just letting it run its course? Does anyone have some experience with this they could share with me? I'm feeling a bit kooky about the whole thing.

well... kinda have to go with your gut feeling. This is yur body so only you can make the ultimate decision....
Yes, I've had strep and so has my husband and we both let it just run it's course and it healed -- painful -- but we healed.... but you have to do what's right for you...
what did help though --
grapefruit seed extract -- the most disgusting horrible thing you will ever taste -- bitter doesn't even come close to discribing it... but does it work - YES AABSOLUTELY. 15 to 20 drops in 8 oz of water -- 3 times a day (or oranged juice if you just cannot handle the taste)... viruses cannot live in the body when there grapefruit seed extract going into it...
and gargle with Hawaiian sea salt and warm water several times a day...
and oil pulling will help pull the infection out of your throat -- make sure NOT TO SWALLOW any of the oil cuz it's full of toxins - if you feel like the phlem is building up in the back of your throat - spit out the oil -- even if you haven't been swishing for very long - and just put some fresh oil in your mouth and continue swishing...
and drink lots and lots of water... I hope you feel better soon...

You can gargle with red table wine. It will kill some of the strep but I wouldn't necessarily stop the antibiotics.
If you have a really bad case, just know that untreated strep (group A streptococcus bacteria) can cause rheumatic fever and other serious conditions such as acute glomerulonephritis.
People with strep throat can spread the disease to others until 24 hours after treatment or for 10 to 21 days if untreated so make everyone in your house gargle with wine, even the kids if you have them.

I agree about GSE but I wouldn't use anywhere near the dose StarFire recommends (as does the bottle) Gargle a few times a day with about 2-3 drops in 1/2 cup of water. What you don't use to gargle and spit, drink. You can also snuff it up your nose to relieve sinus infection (it'll go down your throat) and *looks around* up the other end to relieve vaginal infection (although I'd dilute it even more for that).
Also, raw honey is a natural anti-biotic and more. My husband and I use it when/if we are feeling sore.

You can also use colloidal silver. Just make sure to replenish your healthy bacteria when you are done. Good luck.

Have you been raw for a long time? After a while on raw you should be immune to infection (assuming a healthy lifestyle on top of the raw diet).
I would recommend lots of raw vegetable juices to boost your immune system and natural antibiotics like raw garlic, and there are others.
I personally would never take any synthetic drug other than for immediate life and death situations like being in a physical accident. Also note that synthetic antibiotics will cause severe damage to your immune system and put you on the road to even worst infections (due to the damaged immune system making you even more vulnerable to infection).
If you do decide to take synthetic antibiotics (the natural ones do not destroy the immune system, only the infection), take lots of probiotics for many weeks after to reverse some of the damage caused.

Glomerulonephritis (glo-mer-u-lo-nuh-FRI-tis) is a type of kidney disease that hampers your kidneys' ability to remove waste and excess fluids. Also called glomerular disease, glomerulonephritis can be acute, referring to a sudden attack of inflammation, or chronic, which comes on gradually.

In addition to the GSE recommendation, I would suggest some good probiotics and garlic.

Also, this sceptic has had remarkably good results with visualization exercises.

I used Braggs apple cider vinegar to cure myself of strep throat. I just kept drinking a couple of teaspoons in 8oz of pure water every few hours. I am not one to take any "legal" drugs.....only in the case of an accident. Be well and keep us posted. {{HUGS}} Lynn

Eveleaf: I feel the same way about antibiotics...I used to feel it was irrational as well, but I've learned to really trust in the miracle that my body can heal itself from almost any illness. For me personally, I pretty much have to be dying before I take an antibiotic. Things that work well for me (I've had strep numerous times) are lots of garlic (I just eat or swallow the cloves raw), Vit C in whatever form you can get it down, and definitely some probiotics (there are lots of good vegan brands...just ask someone at your local hfs). Someone once told me that 80% of our immune system is in our gut- so start the probiotics immediately (also, if you decide to take antibiotics these probiotics will already be in your system to hopefully ward off any more damage than necessary). Good luck to you!
