I think (from alissa's standpoint) that oats/grains are not NECESSARY. But, if you want to include them, they can be soaked overnight and sprouted, just like legumes. In fact, if you do raw buckwheat or rolled oats, you don't really need a sprouting time at all, just a good soaking to soften them.

I personally LOVE my buckwheaties (which are buckwheat grains, soaked overnight, food processed with a pinch of salt, some agave, and then dehydrated into flakes).

Most whole foods carry them, but if you don't live near a whole foods, glaserorganicfarms.com carries raw oats. DONT BUY THE BUCKWHEAT, THO!!! it's black UNHULLED (meant for sprouting). you can buy raw buckwheat on amazon through bob's red mill. ( make sure it's not "kasha" which means toasted).

...my health food store and local Peoples Food Co-op carry raw buckwheat in their bulk section...they also have legumes and such that are for sprouting and are marked as such on the bins...one of the stores has black wild rice that can be sprouted too...but it is not marked as such on the container...the seeds that can be sprouted are marked also as such in the spice section....but every health food store is different...I learned by asking...no question is too silly...:D ....keep asking us here too!!! I just bought raw oat groats which I'm going to soak to soften or grind first for cereal...haven't decided yet.................
