Hi Guys - if any of you have a vitamix or other amazing blender, and you put citrus in it (in my case, it's usually grapefruit as part of a green smoothie), do you leave the peel/zest on and grind that up too, or take it off?

Is the peel bad for you, or ok once it's ground up? I threw in an unpeeled kiwi a couple of times and felt very nauseous, but I leave the outer covering on pineapple with no problems.

Thanks!

I don't know about grapefruit but my son has been making a green smoothie lately that has half a small lime in it and he is loving it. I've had a taste and it's good. The aroma from the lime in incredible. Oh, he hasn't mentioned any problems so far by keeping the peel on.

Citrus peels and seeds can be bitter, but the white membranes are great for you. Try to cut away the colored part of the peel, and if using lemons or limes, remove the seeds as well.

Thats odd. I def always leave the kiwi peel on because I got sick of peeling it haha. As far as the grapefruit peel I dont know if you would really want to. That part along with the pith is really sour, not the best taste in the world.

Don't know about grapefruit.... but I sometimes use the peel of oranges, clementines and limes. :) It works out fine.

I read somewhere that you shouldn't eat the peel of oranges:confused: except for maybe lemons and limes!!

Well??
