I fear feeling weak and not running fast enough.

I'm psyched!!! I've got a bunch of fresh fruits and veggies to get me through Monday and Tuesday!!!
Details:
Dear friend,
On Monday, we start our 5-day raw-food cleanse.
Here's more information on the diet:
- The fruits that are allowed are raw, fresh fruits
and vegetables nothing else.
- For 5 days, we will not eat any fat, so no avocados,
nuts, seeds, oils, etc.
- We will not use any condiments as well, just raw
fruits and vegetables, eaten straight or blended in
smoothies, soups, etc.
- No dried fruits and dates as well.
Those who read my book The Raw Secrets will have
a clearer idea of how to do this diet. Just remember to
avoid fats and condiments as well during the cleanse.
A good idea would be to have the following during the day:
BREAKFAST: Fruit, or freshly-squeezed orange juice,
or a fruit smoothie.
LUNCH: A big fruit smoothie (bananas for example),
or a big green smoothie, or simply fresh fruit
(as much as desired)
DINNER: Fruit as desired, followed by a raw soup,
or a tomato-lettuce salad. Or simply a big smoothie.
It's important to eat enough fruit so that you're
not hungry all the time.
As for physical activity, the idea is to do 30 minutes
per day, at least. What counts? Anything: jogging,
jumping on a trampoline, swimming, yoga, etc. But
try to do something that will challenge you a bit. If
you do yoga, try to do a longer routine. If you run,
try to push yourself a little more. At least do something,
even if it's just walking, that will make you sweat a
little and, if possible, get some fresh air.
You should shop today and tomorrow so that you have
plenty of fruits and vegetables. Good choices at this time
of the year are: bananas, mangoes, oranges, lettuce,
sprouts, cherries, etc. There's not that much variety
at this time of the year, but plenty for our purposes.
If you'd like to read my article on getting back on track,
it will probably help you:
http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/backontrack.html
Plan right now to change any commitment you may have
for next week that will not be in your best interest for
this cleanse. If you were supposed to go to a wine and
cheese tasting, it might be a good idea to cancel it.
Also, this weekend shouldn't be an occasion to binge
before the cleanse. You'll have a much easier time if
you don't. I personally plan to have a good time next week.
Get everything you need, and I'll see you on Monday!
Frederic
PS: If you haven't read my book The Raw Secrets, now
would be a good time to do it, in preparation for the
cleanse.

HI all
HI raeannasun - I guess I'll just post here for you instead of e-mailing!
Off We GOOOO>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello everybody!
This is a reminder about the 5-day cleanse that is starting
tomorrow. I called this a cleanse because when your diet
is cleaner than yourself, your body is going to get rid of some
toxins. However, its not really a true cleansing diet. Its
more like a pure raw diet that you could eat all year round,
with some modifications.
More than 1000 people decided to join me on this cleanse
so it will be a great combined energy!
Feel free to send me your comments, but I wont be able
to answer to every e-mail. I am very busy this week, and
this is one of the reasons I wanted to eat very simply for
a week. In fact, tomorrow I am moving so Ill be carrying
boxes all day! There wont be much time for e-mails but
Ill try to update you everyday.
AGAIN, THE PROGRAM:
- Only eat raw fruits and vegetables, without any condiments,
oils, fats (including avocados, nuts and seeds), salt, spices,
vinegar, dried foods, etc.
- Fresh produce is the diet.
- Fruits and vegetables can be eaten whole or blended.
- Aim at doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day.
Challenge yourself and push yourself a little bit.
- Freshly-squeezed orange juice and also freshly-pressed
vegetable juices are also allowed.
HERES WHAT I MIGHT BE EATING TOMORROW:
Morning: a big banana smoothie (5-6 bananas blended
with a cup of water).
Lunch: The same as the morning, but perhaps more
bananas.
Dinner: Some fruit first (like 2-3 apples or mangoes),
and perhaps a glass of vegetable juice, or a blended
veggie soup, or a simple tomato-lettuce salad.
Evening: A few pieces of fruit.
Thats pretty simple but it will work for me because
Im moving tomorrow. Ill keep you updated everyday
and give you ideas and answer to some questions.
QUESTIONS:
1- Can we put lemon juice on the salad? Can the salad
be other vegetables then just tomato-lettuce? Can it have
cucumber, cilantro, celery etc?
ANSWER: Yes, you can use lemon and you can have
any vegetables you want.
2- Would you give us a few recipes for non condiment
raw soup?
ANSWER:
Instant Veggie Soup
Makes 2 servings
2 cup tomatoes
2/3 cup pineapple
2 cups spinach
3 stalks celery or 1 cucumber
Instructions:
Blend tomatoes and pineapple first, add in other
ingredients progressively and blend until smooth.
Notes:
You can vary this soup indefinitely by changing the
vegetables used.
--
3- When you say no condiments, does this mean no
spices as well? No superfoods e.g. Barley Max?
ANSWER: No condiments means no salt, no spices,
no vinegar, no nothing.
--
4-: What amount of water should we be consuming,
since water is a natural cleanser?
ANSWER: Drink enough so that you urinate 8-12 times per day.
--
One last thing: please make sure that you are fully committed
to do this cleanse for a full five days. Your level of commitment
should be 100%. It wont be worth it to do it halfway.
Enjoy the week, and Ill see you tomorrow!

Hello everybody!
How did you do on the first day? Probably well,
Im sure. The first day of doing anything new
takes a bit of focus, but with enthusiasm and
determination Im sure you went through that
first day like it was nothing.
You may have been looking for something to
eat in the evening, and perhaps thought that
avocado looks good, or, I could eat some of
that hummus. Its normal. Watch how you feel
tomorrow. I suggest eating enough so that you
are not looking for something else. You shouldnt
be going to bed hungry. The key to avoid this
is to eat enough fruit, probably more than the
quantities you consider to be even normal or
possible. More on this tomorrow.
If you havent done your 30 minutes of exercise,
now is the time! You can always go outside and
do a 1-hour brisk walk.
AS FOR ME TODAY:
I had a really, busy day, and Im quite tired now...
I carried boxes all day (I just moved), so that
was my exercise. As for food, I grabbed what
was available: In the morning I had some apples
(about 4-5 I think). For lunch I had about 5-6 large
bananas. Then later I had some mangoes
(about 4-5), a tomato-celery soup (just tomatoes
and celery blended together). I also had some
spinach and pineapple. I munched on a yellow
bell pepper and some sticks of celery, and more
tomatoes.
--
QUESTIONS:
Frederic,
I am wondering if it is necessary to eat vegetables
(leafy greens) every day. Would it be acceptable
to the body to eat fruit exclusively for 4 days out of
the week, and integrate greens into the other days?
I'd appreciate you knowledge or opinion on this matter.
ANSWER: Its not necessary to have vegetables every
day, what matters is the average amount you get over
the course of a month, a year. For this week, its
perfectly okay if you want to eat fruit only. However,
if you eat fruit only for 4 days a week every week,
you will probably fall short.
--
As for the veggies, we don't have to eat them all
blended up, do we? I seem to do great with veggies
whole, but blended together turns my stomach.
ANSWER: Its perfectly fine to only eat whole vegetables.
--
I have never eaten raw before, but I have been
reading a lot about it and would like to do your
cleanse. But I have a couple questions. Is hummus
considered raw? I know we can't eat this during the
cleanse, but I am just wondering if it is. Also what
about yogurt, is that raw? Are canned vegetables/
fruits or frozen allowed for the cleanse? eg. olives,
mandarins, pears, peaches?
ANSWER: Glad you decided to try this diet for a week!
The diet for now is pretty simple: fresh produce and
thats it. None of the foods you mentioned would be
considered raw or part of the cleansing diet.

Now everybody, another day starts tomorrow, have fun!

The more journals I read the more I just cannot believe how little raw food ppl eat!
I am doing great on this "cleanse"
It's day two.
Today I ate:
5 bananas
3c grapes
2 oranges
3 apples
3 grapefruits
3 kiwis
2 tomatoes
3 zuchinni
2c carrots
2313 calories!!
I had every intention of making a green drink but I'm too lazy to clean the juicer!
I don't tend to eat breakfast/lunch/dinner - It's kinda like every 2-3 hours!
Fred said to eat enough that you don't feel hungry.
I LOVE to eat!
Don't you guys miss eating just ofr the pleasure of it??
I also did an hour spin class at the gym followed by 1 hour weights.

I've been doing lots of green juices this week, and a typical juice involves:
4 cups kale or rappini or collards or chard
2 carrots
1 apple
1/4 bulb fennel or 10 asparagus
1 piece ginger (I have to have it!)
1 sweet potato
4 stalks celery or 3 pickling cukes or 1 large zucchini or 3 yellow squash
1 lemon or lime
I do this at least twice per day.
I go slow with the fruits, because I typically make them in my Vitamix, and after 17 years of making smoothies, I still can't make them for one person. So, I end up drinking 4 person's worth. Wow, is that filling!
I'm eating about 1400 calories per day and I'm full all the time, not craving anything cooked, although this week I missed the oil and seeds/nuts. But not that much!

Well, I have to ask: anyone having trouble fulfilling their zinc and selenium requirements on this "summer cleanse"?
I'm pretty much deficient, although I'm eating a really wide variety of greens and other veggies daily (minimum 20 different things, not including about 4-5 different fruits daily) yet I can't find that magic ingredient to up my levels.
I'm going to try some cabbage and shiitake mushrooms tonight, see how that works out with my lentil sprouts...
Anyone have any ideas for selenium and zinc (besides supplements, which I'm not against, I just don't have any handy)?

Hi all
I use fitday and am deficient in selinium and others as well. I'm not worried since this is a temporary thing - I may acutally do it until I start the Master Cleanse on June 9th
Just think about all those ppl who go on fasts - 10 - 15 - 20 days..
I think you'll be ok!
ANyway, here is the post from Fred!
Day 3 Starts
Hello, dear friend!
The spring detox continues...
Yesterday you were completely on your own... how did
it go? The second day usually takes a bit more
determination than the first one, but once past it,
the rest is easy.
I mentioned that when your diet is cleaner than
yourself, your body is going to get rid of some toxins.
That probably already started happening to many of
you. The short-term symptoms can include: headaches,
nausea, lack of appetite, disturbed digestion, and other
slight discomforts. Usually, the worst of it is over
within a few days, but elimination of toxins is an ongoing
process, so some of those symptoms can last for a
longer period. Hang on!
What happens during a 5-day raw diet such as the
one we are doing?
- Most of the weight loss is water loss. Since the diet
contains no salt (and no seaweed, please!), the excess
salt is going to be released, along with a lot of water
(that youll pee out), resulting in weight loss, that is
mostly water loss.
- The intestines and colon are going to get cleaner.
- Since no fat is eaten, sugar uptake is going to be
improved (due to increased insulin sensitivity).
Candida symptoms are likely to start disappearing.
- The body might start a little detox, especially if
youve been drinking coffee, eating chocolate, using spices, etc.
WHAT I ATE YESTERDAY
Another busy day. I didnt have anything to eat until
11:00, and then had 3 large fuyu persimmons (I know,
theyre not in season, but they were good...), and a
basket of yellow cherry tomatoes. Then later I had a
big mango/banana smoothie. Later I had some
watermelon. For dinner I had many mangoes followed
by a tomato-celery soup. I also ate some spinach and
1 apple before going to bed.
Ill update you again tonight, and wish you the best for
today. Remember that exercise is also part of this
5-day program.
Yours,
Frederic

Me againI just recieved another e-mail from Fred!
Oh, I did 45 min's of weight training this afternoon!
Peace!
Hello everybody!
Day 3 of this no-fat, raw-food cleanse may be a
little challenge. The first two days is the plunge.
The third day really gets into it. It takes an extra
dose of commitment to overcome the temptation
to quit. Courage! The best part is ahead...
Remember, there are over 1000 people doing this
together! Myself included. Im with you until Friday
and after.
WHAT I ATE TODAY
More food! I definitely did not eat enough in the last
two days, considering my activity levels (my move, etc.).
So today I was hungrier. I ate a piece of watermelon
and 3-4 mangoes in the morning. Later I had 4 Fuyu
persimmons. For lunch I had two smoothies containing
about 5 bananas each. 3-4 hours later I had the same
thing (yes, thats 20 bananas). I just snacked on some
watermelon, tomatoes, and celery. Oh, and I drank in
the evening a big glass of kale-celery-carrot-lemon
juice, that I made with my juicer. Im feeling perfectly
satisfied.
THE SIMPLEST SMOOTHIE
When bananas are ripe, they can be kept in the fridge.
Blending those cool bananas with water is a real treat.
EATING ONLY FRUIT
Its okay if during those 5-day of cleanse you only
eat fruit or very few vegetables.
HEADACHES DURING THE CLEANSE
Some people have told me they experienced some
headaches during the first days of the cleanse. Those
headaches are normal, like when a coffee drinker stops
the daily coffee. They won't last more than a few days,
normally. The only thing that really helps is rest, but
also aerobic exercise really gets rid of headaches fast.
DEALING WITH NEGATIVE PEOPLE
Some people can react negatively and give you a hard
time when tell them that youre doing a cleanse or a
special diet. Personally, I usually don't tell people
exactly what I'm doing. Instead of saying I'm doing a
"cleanse" without fats and all raw for a week, I simply
say I decided to eat really simple foods for some time,
without giving more details. I really don't have any
time to waste dealing with other people's negativity,
and Im not out to convert anybody. Those who are
interested will come.
Thats it for the little daily update.
Ill see you tomorrow for day 4. Have fun!

NOW, SOME QUESTIONS
--
WATER
In general, when not on the cleanse, how much water do you
drink? Also what time did you eat your last food yesterday?
ANSWER: Ive been drinking little water since I eat water-rich
foods and I add water to my smoothies. Ive been drinking
about 1 liter of water per day (including the water I add to my
smoothies). Ive been eating the last food around 8 or 9 p.m.
--
EATING ENOUGH
Thank-you, Thank-you! For all that you have contributed to
the science of nutrition and RAW diets. I am enjoying this week
immensely. For about 3 years, I have struggled with "all-raw."
Learned much from you book The Raw Secrets. The last two days I
have finally realized that I just have not been getting ENOUGH!
Which has led to daily cravings...
Looking at my intake the past 3 days, (thanks for the fitday site),
I see that my caloric intake has been abysmally low. I have read
and re-read the comments in The Raw Secrets about reasons for
"too much nuts/seeds" without really getting it... hopefully I get
it now.
For a very active 165# male (17%BF), what should I strive for
in terms of total caloric intake and "how much fruit?"
Sure you're swamped with email and etc., but thanks again for
your efforts to inform/educate! Chris
ANSWER: I dont know how tall you are and what activities
you do, but I would guess youd probably need at least 3000
calories per day. You can add it up yourself, knowing that a
banana is between 100 and 140 calories. With this diet youll
get your body fat down to less than 10% (for a man).
--
HERBS
Any recommendations to take the cleanse a step further, by
concentrating on a specific organ, say the liver, or the colon? Herbs,
other foods? your thoughts? Laine
ANSWER: Theres no need to! It all happens by itself. I dont believe
in taking certain herbs to cleanse certain organs. Only the inner
intelligence of the body has the ability to orchestrate such actions.
--
FILLING UP TOO FAST
I can't thank you enough for the work and effort on
your part to see us thru these 5 days. The nightly
e-mails are of enormous help because most people do
not know how to go about this. My first day was hard
because of a Family celebration, but I was o.k.
Now I have a question, I am one of those people who
fill up right away. I can only eat maybe half a melon
and I'm full. I have been 90% raw for a few years,
but I have trouble because I can eat so little and I'm
alway hungry right away. Could you suggest a way
around this, other than the constant eating?
ANSWER: With time, you will be able to eat larger
quantities of fruits and vegetables. For now, its about
finding the right place between all you care to eat and
all you can eat. By blending foods you can also eat
larger, more satisfying quantities of fruit. You can also
focus on the fruits that give you more calories by volume,
such as bananas, mangoes, persimmons, figs, etc.
--
WHAT I ATE TODAY
Today, I had some pineapple and a green juice in the
morning (I had about half a pineapple, and then the
green juice). My green juice contained celery, kale,
carrot, and lemon. A little later I had a few persimmons.
For lunch, I had a smoothie containing about 8 bananas
and water. In the evening I had some tomato-celery
soup, some watermelon, then a pineapple-mango
smoothie. A little later I snacked on cherry tomatoes.
