Well this morning i will be making my first green smoothie. i'm nervous. i haven't gone raw yet, i am going to spend the rest oft his year experimienting so that i have a few things to go into Jan 1st when i start my first 30 day challenge. Here is what will be going into my smoothie this morning

spinich, apple, banana, orange. I am also putting in some coconut milk, but it's from a can. it's all natural but does that really count as raw? it just seems so, man made i guess.

No, it's not raw. It had to be heated in order to be canned. Anything canned, bottled, packaged or boxed is almost always not raw.

You might consider orange juice as the base until you can get some fresh coconut? Then add the apples, bananas and spinach as you will. (or, use the coconut milk. I'm sure the raw police wont come a-knockin')

I like to throw the oranges in whole, myself, some people in my family don't like the pulp, but I like that I get all the fiber...if you do that, just add a cup or two of water (unless you have a citus juicer, and then you can make your own juice).

Really? I use coconut oil from a jar, it says extra virgin cold-pressed and the ingredients just say coconut oil - is it nevertheless not raw, something in the packaging process?

Hard to tell. There are a lot of things we do eat that are on the edge of being truly "raw"... anything in a bottle including coconut oil, cashew and/or almond buttter and more. I don't sweat it. If blending it in with other raw and living fruits, veggies, greens, nuts and seeds gets me to eating more of them, I'll do so.

IF I had some type of dis-ease that I was trying to heal/cure, then I'd be more concerned. I know when I stay raw, even using the "questionable", the peripheral stuff tends to just fall away, especially in the summer when I eat truly fresh, raw and local.

I've made that type of green smoothie but instead of canned coconut I've used some of the water and meat from a baby thia coconut or many times I just put in some water but where it's your first green smoothie I'd add some agave if you use water. I also throw in oranges quite frequently and it's never added enough liquid for me. Try it, you can always put in some water and agave if it's too thick. Oh, a little vanilla is great too.
