I had a really strange thing happen tonight. Last weekend I bought some raw cashew butter, or what I *thought* was raw cashew butter. Even though it didn't say 'raw' on the tub (which I questioned immediately), the list of ingredients was simply "cashews", not "roasted cashews" or "dry-roasted cashews", so I thought I was safe.

Anyway, I tried some tonight. The first 1/2 teaspoon tasted fine, so I dug in a little more and had this VERY strange taste in my mouth. I tasted a little more to determine WHAT it was that I was tasting. I came to the conclusion that my mouth tasted like I had just smoked a cigarette! I could taste a smokiness to the butter. Could my tastebuds be getting that refined in such a short period? Ugh, it was gross! Like someone had ground up a cigarette in it.

How gross is that! Ya know, Autumn, I'm under the impression that, unless it states "raw" then it's probably not. At least, that's been my experience. I don't think there's a legal requirement that they state that nuts are heat processed. Since it's considered the norm, the unusual state -- "raw" -- is what is labelled, not the usual state of the nuts: roasted or baked or whatever.

(which I questioned immediately) Funny how our instincts are usually right, huh .. and how great that your taste has grown that sensitive.

HUMMMMMM,

Well, I would say that IF it didn't say "RAW" then it isn't.

If they used the same machines as they used to process other nuts, which have been roasted/smoked etc. the taste could have transferred over to the cashews.

I could totally see something that was in a natural state easily picking up flavors elsewhere.

This is why many health professionals advocate distilled water, or the emptiest water available. The more empty the water, the more it acts like a vaccuum to pick up impurities hanging around in the body, to carry them out.
