Hellooo! I wanted to see if someone can relate to my "issue"...

Well i've been running around these days, shopping, friends... it's been so crazy that i ended up eating some SAD foods (gosh i came to realize how socially challenging raw is! there's a complete lack of structure for this lifestyle sometimes grr)

Anywho- after all that SAD (30-40%) i just can't get enough of any food! i'm 100% raw once again (i finally went to a grocery store!) and can eat and eat without really TASTING anything... WHAT IS THIS? i think i've notice this phenomenon once before (after some SAD foods) and as far as i can remember, the tastes came back after several days.. this is just so weird!

Has anyone noticed this? So far i'm just swallowing food without particularly enjoying it.. very sad :[

I haven't actually had this issue, but I do experience changes with my taste buds. Such as...if I'm raw for even a few days straight...cooked food doesn't taste the way I remember it. It's almost like my taste buds have been refreshed and are sensitive to all the additives. Especially salt... Hope this clears for you soon!

I've noticed that when I've been raw for a while, sweet, salty, spicy and sour tastes start to get stronger, while bitter tastes get weaker.
I've been making a raw fudge recipe that calls for 3/4 cup of raw honey. At first it didn't taste sweet enough. Eventually, as I was more raw, the same fudge tasted TOO sweet, so I made my next batch with only 1/2 cup of honey. That much got to be too sweet as well, so my most recent batch I made with 1/4 cup of honey. Next time I think I will only use 2 tbs. of honey, because it is starting to taste too sweet.
When our tastebuds aren't being burned out by warm foods, artificial flavorings and unnaturally sweet high fructose corn syrup, real, raw, live food starts to taste amazing.
If you want the taste to come back sooner, try fasting for a while to increase your hunger. You can just fast for 8-10 hours and that should do it. Drink lots of water, too.

thanks to your replies, guys! I also noticed how, as i made a raw cake, it tasted unbelievably sweet to me. i thought i spoiled it with too much honey/dates, but SAD eaters said it was absolutely fine!

hm i guess my tastebuds will come back to normal soon :)

One thing I do notice is that when I break raw and go back to eating anything SAD, my mouth feels awfully dry. This feeling usually comes after the headaches, stomach aches, and overall lethargy I feel after having eaten SAD.

Futureboy - your body has been working harder to digest the cooked food than it usually does to digest raw food, so it needs more water, kind of like a work out for your digestive system, in a bad way. That explains the dry mouth.

i heard a radio program that explained that exactly.
it is the use of excito toxins like msg that shock the tastebuds to death,
causing one to lose the taste of real foods. they sneak it into ALL processed foods.
makes sense, no?
try feeding a kid a bag of skittles and see if they can taste an apple afterwards...
