View Full Version : How to feel full during the day?

I read the post about feeling full until lunch, but I am having this problem throughtout the whole day. Last night I was so hungry before I went to bed I ended up eating something nonraw that was totally naughty. Yesterday was only my second day eating 100% raw and this is what I ate:

-5 bananas (breakfast)
-plate of raw fruits and veggies off the fruit and veggie tray (approx 2 cups) at my work meeting.
-healthy portion of fettuccini alfredo w/ mushrooms (from alissa's book)
-couple of coconut waters (Zico...are these raw?)
-One head of romaine lettuce with tomato, celery, and salmon pate (alissa's book) and alissa's dressing on top.
-And then the forbidden junk food from across the street...(at about 10:30 at night)

After eating the slice of pizza, I finally felt full. I then woke up this morning ravenously hungry again.

I know that I have a fast metabolism and generally speaking, I always wake up hungry. Do I just need more food? I am going to get more things at the store today to be able to eat something raw when I am searching for something to fill me. Last night when I was super hungry and getting impatient and irritable my roomate said I was acting like she does when she tries to quit smoking! Wow! Over food?!
I am also super active and practice and teach yoga full time, aiding to my fast metabolism.
I am dissapointed that I resorted to a SAD fill last night, but I am ready to just start again today and keep it going.

I find that some of the recipes are almost too rich for me and I want to quit eating them before I am all the way full. Also, I reached a point in my SAD eating where being 'full' was very uncomfortable for me and so I only eat until satisfied. I have already noticed different 'full' sensations when eating raw...maybe I am not used to it yet?

Is all this just part of the process? Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated. Sorry this is so long winded but I thought I would lay out all the facts.

Thanks!
angela

As Lucy would say, "two words": green smoothies. Also, if you find the nut pates, etc a little too rich for you now, try adding avos to your diet. Wishing you mucy success on your raw journey ~ Cathy

Heres some ideas for you..

Morning smoothie-- green or otherwise-- keep you feeling full? A really big one

Perhaps eating little and often would help you?

Carrying raw snacks and foods with you-- whole fruit, raw pasta and sauce, calliflower rice, flask of green smoothie, some nuts, some dates

Is that possible in your working enviroment to carry some bits?

Hope you find something that helps anyway!

I have found and I have heard others comment on this, that when you are first starting a raw food lifestyle you are hungrier more often until your body adjusts, just feed it all the raw stuff it wants and know that this will probably subside.

Thank you for your ideas.
I normally have a GS for breakfast (even before I was raw). But just seemed to run out of the stuff I normally put in it.
I am going to get tons of supplies for GS today along with some olives, more avos, and other varied foods so that I can make it through this initial period of 'hungry all the time'.
My mom has always made fun of me because I am always hungry. But I think I just use a lot of energy!
Yes, I can take food/snacks with me to work and nibble in between yoga classes. Mostly then, I just want fruit, and drinks, and hydrating, H2Ofull things. (I teach Bikram Yoga and I am in HOT, humid, yoga room for many hours every day.)
I will keep trying...I thought I was well prepared this time, but I will just stock up again and go again. I am learning a lot through my experiences and to me, that is part of what this is all about.

I would suggest nuts. Thats what has been helping me with that "full" satisfaction since beginning my raw journey

Try adding a teaspoon of coconut oil in the morning and one around 7pm.
That usually does wonders. PS. After a while you kind of realize that that "full" feeling isn't what it's cracked up to be. You'll enjoy that lighter feeling, food comas...blech. Ooooh...Plus more water...

Thank you all for your support and suggestions. I am making some of Alissa's pad thai and collard rolls either tonight or tomorrow...I am also armed with olives, plenty of nuts, and everything for plenty of green smoothies.
For Christmas I am making my roommate and I Alissa's calzone and also the pumpkin pie recipe that has been floating around the forum! I am really excited to try these more complicated recipes that everyone has been raving about!

I will try putting some of the coconut oil in my smoothie in the morning and see if that helps me.

Sure! The above posts are great. What's wrong with eating MORE of the fruits/vegetables/fresh nuts that you LOVE. Don't force yourself to eat stuff that you HATE. LOL. In the beginning, concentrate on staying full.....and being happy...and don't worry too much about food combining, rules, or expensive equipment (just my opinions).

I have noticed since going raw that for the most part I am never full like I was when I ate SAD. Full is a different feeling on raw food vs. SAD food. I think the full feeling you get when you stuff yourself on things like carbs is different than when you eat things like fruits and veggies. You will learn to get used to it over time. You may want to try eating smaller amounts more frequently. It seems I am grazing a lot during the day instead of sitting down to big meals.

I noticed that as well Morn, I never feel full, I always feel satisfied, I rarely have a stomach growl, not sure if that's normal anyway. Sometimes though because of past addictions to food I will start to think that I need to eat more but then at the same time, I remind myself taht I'm not craving anything, I'm satisfied. It's weird and different and definitley something to get used to.
