Ok i would like to know if this is normal in something i may be missing in my food intake such as a vitamin or nutrient defencency. I found myself craving to chew on rubber bands  every time i put on dishwashing gloves to clean dishes. What is this about?

Oh, jeez. That's not good. Why don't you tell us something about your diet? Waht's a typical day?

Sounds a bit like Pica to me...is it just rubber, or is it chewing ice and stuff too?

Might need some iron.

...in high school. any smell of new rubber/latex and my mouth would water.
i once secretly chewed on the soles of my brand new basketball shoes. but yeah, rubber bands, new bike tires, rubber gloves... i've chewed them.

no one ever caught me, so nobody knew what i freak i am. you know, until now.

i don't know WHAT causes that. it went away. i'm fine now. mostly.

I manily use to eat when 100% SAD i craved a lot of cheeses, potatoes breads, pastas, tomato sauces, rice, beans, and fruit, but now that i look back on my eating habits i rarely at plenty of vegetables. I love fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains. I think i just did not consume them more, and this has created some type of limited vitamin and nutrient defencency?
 :o

No, i do not chew ice or other stuff:)

I am thinking it is iron too, but i am missong it somewhere in my intake, i use to take multi-vitamins with iron:confused: . this rubber craving started when i started to transend to 100% raw, i am thinking it may be an adjustment in my system to eating SAD for soooo long and now it has to learn to live and function on living foods.

Are you pregnant???

No, i was think that as well :D. but i have been craving some very starnge food combinations lol lol. I think my body is adjusting form SAD to RAW, maybe this is part of my detox, i have read that others who transcend to raw experience a variety of detox symtoms. I am hoping this is one of them;)

I will do a research for "Pica" :). I will ask my doctor for a blood test, it has been about a year since i had one, and my eating and lifestyle have been through some pretty major changes.

Thank you for the tidbit about "Pica":) I will do some further research to see what the causes and symtoms are.

Sounds alot like pica, which I had and my little toddler has (lessened CONSIDERABLY since going raw and cutting out all grains and nuts/seeds; we seem to have an intolerance to them, even when sprouted and live, but if you don't then that's great). Grains are not bad, we just can't eat them although I wish we could. just pointing out what our issue was.

What I'm meaning to say is that we had pica, it can come in many forms, I craved dirt and gasoline, and he would chew on wooden chairs and the corners of the wall (paint). My iron was not deficient, neither was his. For us it was ZINC, so I'd check that one out as well since it is actually more common to cause pica than iron. Also, blood tests aren't always acurate, hair analysis is supposed to be more accurate. i'd also check for food sensitivities/allergies, as that can cause a mineral deficiency even when the person consumes the minerals. Also, almost always, you may need to consume more raw fats (avocadoes, virgin coconut oil, olive oil, etc).

It could also be due to detox, your body requires minerals to buffer toxins in the body. Lots of water is good and lots of raw fats which is needed to get the toxins out.

Either way, your body is definately trying to tell you something.
