View Full Version : dehydrators
I was thinking of buying the 4 tray excalibur 2400 basic dehydrator and I was wondering if anyone knows how good it is?

I have one.
It's nice, but I love my 9 tray better! lol

I heard the Excalibur dehydrators are the best for the price, however I can't see myself buying one. They are made of polycarbonate and could possibly leach Bisphenol-A into the food. The food doesn't necessarily have to touch the dehydrator, however the food is in the dehydrator for such a long time, even if it is a low temperature I am not sure it would be safe enough for me. Has anyone tried a stainless steel dehydrator?

you can build your own dehydrator, just do some research. Sorry, I don't remember which site I saw the instructions on how to build your own dehydrator but I think it is a very good idea.
Personally, I have the 9 tray dehydrator. Even thought I never use all the 9 trays but it comes handy when I need a lot of space.

I have the 4 tray dehydrator from Excalibur. I like it very much. My logic when I purchased mine was that if I used it a lot and needed more space then I would purchase another 4 tray or the 5 tray...so then I can run them at the same time with different temps. Sometime in the next couple of months I will buy another one. The only other thing I could add is don't forget to get extra texflex sheets. It came with 2 but I wish I had 4.
Good luck
