As some know I am planning to do the master cleanse starting June 9th.
I am a bit concerned about failing it, and subsequently failing the raw food "diet"
As of now, I am 100% raw ALL DAY. I pack my lunch and snacks for the day and don't even miss cooked food.
Every day as I drive home I tell myself as I eat carrots and cucumbers: " I will not losemcontrol today, i will only eat if I'm hungry"
And every day without doubt, I lose control! Raid the cereal box...soya milk naaaa I like peanut or almond butter in my cereal!!
It doesn't help that I have a daughter and husband who are cooked vegans...lots of carbs - cereal, cereal bars, pasta, rice,,,,bread!
I'm not hungry, but I just binge! How can I control this?
I guess I'm so used to that full feeling that when I feel satisfied it's not enough!
I have seen what most of you eat on the journals, How do you survive...I love to eat! i am aware of the theory behind less food/more nutrients. but, but it doesn't seem possible . My body will start to scream for food and does every 2 hours!
How do I gain control at night time.
I eat all the raw I want, but I cave and devour the cereal, or pasta....
HELP!!!!

I went through something similar. Before my whole family went raw, we had all kinds of (natural) cereals and things too.
I'd eat raw most of the day and then in the evening, I'd end up eating something else that wasn't raw. But for me, it wasn't that I wasn't satisfied or that I was hungry, it was just cravings. Cereal and chips were my biggest downfall and if chips are around me, I still sometimes cave into them.
A lot of people get the evening-cooked-munchies, especially if you have that type of food in the house due to other family members who eat it.
I used to make my own grawnola in the dehydrator to help with cereal cravings and sometimes it worked very well and sometimes it didn't because I'd want to taste what the flavor of the cereal was - back then I LOVED Mother's Peanut Butter Bumpers or Groovy Grahams and nothing I made tasted like that. So, if I was craving the FLAVOR of the cereal, then nothing else would suffice.
But keep in mind that IF you intend for eating raw to be a lifestyle change, it's a process and it takes time sometimes and it's more difficult when you have other family members at home who eat cooked. It's a challenge. Some can and do go "cold tofurky" and others don't/can't. You seem to be doing well and as time goes on IF you're really committed to this lifestyle change (and not as a diet) then you will notice yourself "needing"/desiring cooked foods less and less. Eating more greens in the way of green smoothies (blended with fruit - do a search for "Ode to green smoothies" if you haven't seen that already) might help with cravings.
But I do have a (very sincere) question for you. In your other threads, you made it seem like you faired pretty well if not VERY well on a vegan diet - that your weight was where you wanted it, high energy levels, etc. So, my question to you is: What makes you strive to be 100% raw? I mean, there are many members here who will tell you in an instant that they aren't 100%, don't want to be and aren't really striving to be, but they DO want to eat as much raw as possible. So, what is it that is driving you to eat 100% raw when you seem to be doing well eating a low-fat vegan (cooked) diet? Just curious...honestly, not trying to be funny or anything remotely like that.
Myself, I am doing it because I believe that eating this way is natural and the way I should eat - in a way it's even spirtually-inspired. Don't have any major health challenges; don't need to lose weight - I just believe this is a way of life that I am destined to live. But that's me.

yes ,thats a VERY good question, especially for some people (when they are in the peak of health) fare better on a 85- 90-97 % range raw diet ,its a bit better since some people binge just from the fact that they "cant" have it,so instead they eat as much raw as possible and reserve it for every now and then ,so it doesnt drive them crazy ......Im like that with miso soup ,it REALLY makes everything SO much easier, but Im pretty much 98% raw b/c my gallbladder symtoms are MUCH better -and I no longer get sick and throw up after I eat...........lol ,sorry for the graphics!
But then again some people do better as rawkinlocs says "cold tofurkey" ,so maybe you should detox the sad stuff out stay 100% and see if you still have the cravings
good luck!

i have been a vegetarian for almost 20 years, but never felt healthy. i started researching and researching and stumbled into the raw food scene. it seemed crazy at first...this is a long story...so, i have been slowly increasing my raw meals each day and adding snacks etc. i felt the same way about dinner time meals. i would eat raw all day, perfectly fine, enjoying my prepared meals. then i would come home and the family would want mexican take out or pizza and IMMEDIATELY i would agree and join in. then i would feel guilty. i really love reading these postings because instead of worrying myself sick about all the things i am doing wrong or cant do perfectly (like being 100 percent raw) i see that most everyone is supportive of any effort someone makes to eat more raw. also, i think taking it slowly or at least forgiving myself for mistakes i make has made this type of eating almost like therapy! i am so glad to read how other people are coping and meeting the challanges of eating raw.

A few things here which caught my eye when reading your post are all the negatives. "Failing" at the master cleanse and "failing" at eating raw food. There, you are setting yourself up for failing. There is no failing. Either you do something or you don't. Simple. IF you consider not doing it to the extent you might wish, you've not "failed" ~ you just didn't do it.
Also, on the way home, you say what you wont do ~ lose control.
As others have said, what you are attempting to do ~ without total support from you family ~ is hard. Might I suggest you go more from the "baby step" aspect?
As long as I've been teaching others how to do what they want to do, one thing I've found is, many folk, without having support of those who live with them ~ jump into something without considering all aspects.
Yes, it sounds good ~ do the master cleanse, lose all cravings, become raw YET if you DON'T do the master cleanse then you WONT do the raw "diet" ~ you've failed. You've not failed!
Personally, I'm not sure why you are planning on doing the master cleanse. I would suggest, having and eating raw foods. For most, that IS a cleanse. Learn to create some wonder-filled recipes that you can share with your family. Don't tell them it's raw. Just make it, offer it. IF they choose not to partake ~ more for you! I would suggest starting off with the kinds of things they like. Sugar? Make raw fudge. Fruit? Raw pies. Look through Alissa's book (if you have it and find a few recipes that sound good. Make them so, when you get home, you'll have some wonder-filled foods available. Make a sticky note ~ stick it on your fridge, 'puter, mirror, or all three ~ wherever you'll see it/them reminding you of what food is available in your fridge. What you may find is, after awhile you'll not be interested in what they are eating.... and they MAY be interested in what you are eating.
Thing is, sometimes the solution is the problem. From what you say, the master cleanse is not the way for you to go ~ at this time. IF you were to ask me, I would say not to do it now. Getting stressed over all this is NO way to live. Way to live is ~ play with your food; enjoy life; be happy.

Revvell, I was gonna suggest the exact same thing BUT... see, that's just the thing. In Animlover's "Calorie thread", she said the recipes in Alissa's book (and other raw uncook books) are too high in calories...too rich...too nut-heavy...too fattening *shrugs*.

Yes, for a couple of months or something like that...
I gave the 100% RAW FOOD diet a shot about 6-8 months ago. Previously I was a vegan.
At the time I was working out 5 times a week at the gym, 2 hour sessions. I hour weight, 1 hour cardio. Then I decided to train for a marathon because I wanted to try to qualify for the Boston marathon.
In the process of training for a marathon I gained weight eating raw food only, so on my third month raw I decided to go back to vegan (low fat)

hmmm, well I find it EXTREMELY easy to be low fat raw! Its less time consuming ,less preparation and filled with vibrant veggie and fruit flavors........you just have to do two things - keep it simple ,and be creative .......I do a lot of mono eating ,but when I want "more" I subtitute and create low fat recipes like my "say no to avo guacomole" and my low fat no bean humus with cucumber chips , red bell pepper strips and celery/ carrot sticks.......you can "search" for them if you want?

You have a good point there. I guess I'm a product of my environment...I am negative! I have been aware of this for awhile, and make a consious effort to be positive with the people in my life - I think I am good at that. But I am negative towards myself! Thank you for pointing that out!
It's hard...My husband and daughter are not raw - they are however vegan. it's not like he is against me being raw, he just wants to continue being cooked.
I want to do the master cleanse for a few reasons.
First I just want to do the experiement - see what happens to my body.
second - i would like to lose the stubborn fat around my belly
third - I want to see my bowels being cleaned out.
Fourth - I truly believe that this is the best thing to get me 100% raw. and a reason to stay raw!
I have done the raw diet for about 3 months. about a year ago. ANd YES I gained weight!!! - TOo many dehydrated food i guess... I currently eat a pretty clean diet - vegan, I don't know how to verify the %, but I eat raw all day, then have a few bowls of cereal at night. or a baked yam, steamed broccoli here and there...some tofu as well.
Rawkinlocs - great name btw!
I am faring very well on my current diet - Why would I like to go 100% raw? I would like to try it as an experiment for the summer. I also have a desire to be as healty as I can and believe the raw lifestyle is the answer!
My mother had a stroke a few years back, she was 62 at the time. She was left paralyzed on the left side - permanently. SHe takes LOADS of pills 2-3 times a day!!
I visit her at the nursing home and just see the devistating result of lives lived without thought and concern for ones health. Now that I have a daughter of my own. I want to be vibrant, healthy and ACTIVE as long as I can - As long as I am here!!!
I guess my desire for total permanent health and my daugter are the reasons I want to go raw...
As far as sprituality goes - I don't think that plays into any of my reasons...I do however value all life and our planet and take major pride in the fact that i don't contribute to it - not as much as cooked meat eaters anyway!
I am planning on starting a journal here soon. I just have to find the time. I'm not good with computers and will need help!
I am so glad I found this web site, You are all so supportive!
I think it Rawks!

Well, my parents are fried meat ,popcorn, cake and cookie eating maniacs......so there are lots of "temptations" around -although I would never be tempted by meat(unless its sushi, that was HELL giving up )but I havent eaten a sad meal since being raw ,and havent felt the temptation -Like yesterday, my parents brought home fried onion rings-it didnt even look like food to me ,you REALLY need to change your definition of what food is and isnt!!!! -thats really the only way to be 100% and not "cheat"......Good luck :) !

Animlover, I'm going to go against the grain and say go for it (the master cleanse I mean). If you really are motivated to do it, cleaning out your body for a few weeks really may help your body lose its taste for cooked stuff. That's what happened to me, and I wasn't even planning it. I didn't do master cleanse, I did a juice fast for nearly a month and when I finished that, I went straight into raw.
Anyhow, whatever you decide, cold turkey, or incremental steps, just be patient with yourself, don't give up and you will achieve your goal.

You sound like a very neat person Animlover! I'm excited to see you succeed and make your goals!
My first introduction to raw was while I was on a 85% raw, 15% cooked diet called "The Hallelujah Diet" (www.hacres.com) which still has a TON of benefits and healing properties that the raw diet has. I think your weight gain while you were on it before was just because of the prepared dishes you made. I hope you'll try more mono-eating this time. I've found the past couple weeks that I'm craving more whole foods and wanting more mono-meals than before. I will prepare something and it just won't taste that great to me so I'll end up just eating something whole. (Last night it was a red bell pepper! Yum!)
As for your journal, post a photo (click the button at the top that says "post your photos") and then go to the 30 day challenge under your user name and you can start journaling! Post two photos so that others can leave comments! There are help topics on the board too so you can get help!
