Which is better? And why? Thanks!

Despite what some say about freezing WITH the skins on - to me, thats ridiculous.
I strip the bananas, toss them into a ziploc and throw in the freezer. If they stick together, I pull out my handy dandy rubber mallet and whack the closed bag a couple times on the floor, and they break apart, whole. That way I can just pull out one whole banana, instead of measuring cups of slices etc.
If you freeze with the skin ON - thats a frozen, hand-hurting mess.

Peel off. Alot of the time I can't get all of the peel off without using a knife if I freeze them with peel on. It's just so much quicker and easier pre-peeled. I just peel a bunch of my ripest nanas at one time and put them in a big plastic freezer bag then into the freezer.
Funny you guys a talking about this. I just put a bunch in the freezer the other day with peel on and it is a pain getting the peel off when it is frozen. They are still good its just a pain to get it off. So I am livin it.

I peel them, wrap them in foil, and throw them in the freezer.

I put a banana in the freezer one time with the peel on. Later that week I removed it and let it thaw out. Big mistake!!! ICK. It was like soup in a banana peel. I didn't even open it, it felt so disgusting! Just threw it in the compost bucket. So now I freeze my bananas peeled, cut in half.

I peel because the bananas are easier (much easier!) to work with. The first time I froze some I left the peel on. Never again!!!

lol... some funny responses in here :)
peel off, most definitely. we slice ours into manageable chunks and store them in a large freezer bag or freezer-proof container. (you can rinse the freezer bag out, hang to dry, and reuse)

I leave the peel on only when the bananas are gonna go off and I have no time to peel them all.
It's fine going into the freezer, but coming out and getting those peels off gives your paws a good dose of frostbite. Not nice!

Peel off! Then you can just toss them into a blender. If you freeze with the peel it becomes hard as a rock and impossible to take off the skin when frozen.

Definitely peel off! If you are going for frozen bananas (in smoothies, ice cream, etc), that is totally the way to go. Otherwise, like another poster stated, you need to use a knife to peel off the skin and it is so cold it hurts your hands...

haha definitely peel OFF. Sounds like weve all had those unpleasant frozen banana peel issues haha
I vote for peels off! My grandmother use to freeze with the peels on about 25 years ago. I hated cutting off the peels for her. Plus the quality of the banana did not seem as good to me. I like to cut my bananas into the size I will need when I use. This way it becomes a convenience food that I just throw in the blender.;)

its always aPEELIN to peel your appeallin bananas before freezin.;)
Peel them. I cut my bananas into smaller pieces then put them on a tray and wehn they are frozen, I put them in a plastic bag. They stay separate then.

I always froze my nanas with the peels off...
then a very knowledgeable rawbie said... NOOOOO LEAVE THE PEELS ON!!!
so I did... btw if you do freeze them with the peels on - just drop the frozen nanas in a bowl of warm water for a moment and the peels will come off fairly easily... HOWEVER....
I made the mistake of 'forgetting' them on the counter for a little while and when I walked back into the kitchen -- what I did end up with looked like a banana slug... it was disgusting - squishy ~squashy ~ slimmey ... yucko  !!
NEVER AGAIN... I will always freeze my bananas PEELED.... I love the ease of opening that ziploc and throwing them into the fp, and they come out beautiful and still looking like a banana!!
