this is the time of year we see fruitcakes make appearances.
i know there are soooo many jokes about how no one wants one...
but i had a dad who was a baker, a pastry chef extraordinaire
who made these things and brought them home to us with the 'day-olds'
for all his little kidlets to wolf down with gusto.

it was a very happy sad life.

so i was looking at a pic of a fruitcake
thinking....
why don't i make a living fruitcake
for those times and those peoples who'd like a slice.

my question is

(i have the basic recipe all formulated already)

what kind of bits would you like to see in your cake?

i already have: apricot, pineapple, cherry, walnut

and do u like it spiced or plain?

let me know if you have any raw brandy recipes :D :D :D

thanks for any input
and i will be posting soon

when I wasn't raw, I LOVED fruitcake...
re-gifting the fruitcake ended when it got to me.

hehe.. :p

I love pecans.
The dark fruitcakes were always my favorite...
definitely post a recipe, I would love to try it.

Good luck. :)

Is fruit cake that bread/cake thing with dried fruit (or the supermarket version with candied orange peel etc)?

If so: I'd like to have loads of figs in mine. and some (non-dried, soft, wonderful) apple dices (reminds me of my "traditional christmassy apple bread" :) ) . And if spices: cinnamon and a hint of ginger... (maybe some carob as well...) :D

There's a new recipe on The Daily Raw Cafe for fruitcake. Terilyn says her daughter would go raw if she could eat this fruitcake for every meal, so cute!

www.thedailyrawcafe.com

Might give you some ideas for yours or maybe you would just want to make hers.

Recipe on Tuesday, December 4, 2007.

I love fruit cake too. You need to buy the right kind. Many people get dry fruit cake from the grocery store as gifts. And I agree with most that it's not the best cake out there lol But bakeries make awesome fruit cakes!

My fav fruit cake pieces are Pineapple, Cherry, blueberries and maybe some apricots or apples soaked in a caramel.

I like mine with a hint of spice.
