Oh my. My dh is a volunteer fire fighter in town. Last night a house burned down to the ground. It took 4 towns nearly 6 hours to put it out. Dh's adrenline was flowing like crazy. The front window exploded out on him and AMMUNITION was flying everywhere. He came home EXHAUSTED and completely drained. He held the hose for so long that he can barely move his arms.
Are there any specific foods that I could feed him when he wakes up? something to combat the aching muscles and help relief the drained feeling that comes with such an adrenline rush?
(fwiw-the fire chief, a 27 year veteran, said it was my far the worst fire he's ever been to.) :(

I've read where serious bikers make a huge banana smoothie for their recovery. Just bananas and water. The potassium and natural sugars will do him good!
I'm glad he's okay!!!!!

I second the banana smoothies. They help me after running a cross country race, when I have been taxed both physically and mentally. Adding a 2 tsp. of vinegar to the smoothie while you are blending it keeps it from turning brown and oxidized (ick).

Or a bit lemon (/juice), which may taste better than vinegar in combination with banana :)

He only ate 2 bananas, hours apart. You can lead a horse to water....;)
He is sore, but he feels like a hero-and he is, MY HERO!

Hi,
You might want to try pineapple - it is a natural anti-inflammatory & it's delicious!
If your up for any natural supplements:
MSM - an natural anti inflammatory also & homeopathic remedy - Arnica Montana helps with muscle aches, strains, overworked muscles, etc. - believe me - after teaching 5 yoga classes in 4 days - I need it!
Good luck ~ :o

Pineapple, ginger, and tumeric all work well as anti-inflammatories. Remember to drink a lot of water. Water is the single most important thing when it comes to recovery. Supposedly Maca works well at recovering the adrenals and hormone balance after stressful activities or really hard efforts. I have been using maca but didn't really notice much of a difference as my body was recovering very well before I started taking it.

Oh, another thing that could help is an epsom salt bath.
